Q:

Wooden Cricket Breech Cover Available…

I wrote a European dealer asking if they had any Cricket breech covers available:

Response:

Dear Sir,

The synthetic cheekpiece is not available at the moment. Wooden piece
costs 55,80 euros including VAT 24% + postage

We are expecting a shipment in about a week.

However, I don’t understand why a U.S. buyer would have to pay the VAT on this????

UPDATE: No VAT if you live outside the European Union:

[i]”Dear Sir,

The exports to consumers within EU are charged VAT. If you live outside
the EU region, we deduct the VAT.

Uncle Hoot!

Why not buy a wooden cover and paint it black (or use that same truck bed liner you used on the cocking lever) while you wait the synthetic cover to become available ? A welthy, distinct gentleman as yourself should have no worries funding the little extra cost either.

That´s my experience as well but what do i know… I may be able to help you out on this, Zoco. I ordered my Cricket from MWM in Finland and it´ll be delivered with the cheek piece and i, in my infinite wisdom, ordered and paid for one extra cheek piece without knowing that. I can sell the extra piece for you without that VAT boogaboo if you want. Will be getting the gun + the extras i ordered shortly. The Cricket delivery is somewhat late from the factory but it should arrive in a weeks time or so. Let me know!

In my experience there are loads of dealers who don’t bother about the VAT reduction. Too much hazzle for them. BAR in UK is one who openly admits they will not do it unless special circumstances.

I am at times buying via ebay from UK, – and I have yet too see a seller who ships ex VAT to Norway although Norway is NOT a member of the EU. Sad because in my case (Norway) you are allowed imports up to NOK 250 (freight included) free from VAT. Anything above that value, – and you run the risk of having your parcel stuck with customs who will charge 25% VAT not only on the item but also on the freight amount, – and they charge you for the declaration as well……….

Hence the practice by many shippers to label a low value and “gift” on the declaration on the parcel itself. Sometimes it works, – sometimes not. But I have never seen shippers deducting local VAT before shipment. Unless the buyer is a registered company………..

I may want one of those wooden cheek rests and I’ll ask the seller in Finland if he deducts VAT before shipment…….

Cheers
Trygve 😀

I’m sure… Never met a dealer who do not know about that, basic export rules, however Mr Hoot may not have stated it was outside EU.

That may be true. I don´t know. Many dealers don´t seem to be aware of that though ..

No VAT on orders going outside EU, so if you purchase from him it should be without VAT.

In Europe the rules are different. In order to get rid of the VAT you need to buy it as a dealer, with a VAT registration number and such (i don´t know how it works in US with that) and that´s it. In US a customer from , say Colorado , don´t need to pay the sales tax (VAT) if he buys something from i.ex California. Not so in Europe – if i buy something from ,say Germany , i still need to pay the German VAT if i buy it as a private person. If i do it thru a registered company then i don´t pay the German VAT when i buy it but once i sell the item i need to put the Swedish VAT on the price. Comprende, Senor Hoot ??

God bless the European tax system !! :3:
