Worth knowing….the fill valve O-ring can cause trouble

I noticed a slow leak in my Leyla. I changed all the O-rings, but still had a slow leak.

I contacted Wingnuts and he sorted the problem out immediately. It was the tiny O-ring at the bottom of the fill valve. It is held in place by a small hex screw, so I assumed it must be tightened down with a wrench…wrong! It must be properly tightened, or the gun will either refuse to fill, fill very slowly, or it will slowly leak air! The O-ring must be loose enough to permit air to flow past it when filling the Edgun, but tight enough to permit the air pressure to “crush” it against the bottom of the fill valve when done filling.

Here what I learned:

“…that seems to be quite a problematic o ring and the cause of most edgun slow leaks.. you may note that it is the only non metric O ring Ed uses in his guns.. simply because none of the metric ones seal on the 3mm screw he uses. The Chinese fit a 2.5mm x1.5mm o ring in that same position in the P12 and it always has a slow leak. I replace them with the 005 imperial o ring that Ed uses and once you get that slight crush right it seals.

There’s no magic number of turns of the hex screw when replacing the tiny O-ring. The key is use tiny adjustments to get it where it needs to be.

I tightened mine to where the O-ring touched the base of the fill valve, and then backed it off a fraction of a turn. This worked on my first try!

One of those “good to know” things, when nothing else explains a slow leak…
