Q:

Would This Work?

Please excuse the total noob question but a little insight would help

I have a talon ss in .22. I was thinking about putting condor internals in along with the hi flo tank and a 12 in .25 barrel.

1) would I get better performance in terms of power and trajectory (hoping for condorish). I realize that the shorter barrel will keep velocity down.

2) would this work? I’d like to hear your experiences with such a build.

Thanks in advance

Frank

Thanks for the info. What about turning the wheel down to 6. My give you more shots. Hard to tell with out a chronograph.

Well, I installed the hammer with slap mod, added the condor tank, and swapped out the .22 for a 12 in .25. Swapping the barrel was an ordeal (first time ever). Once I got it back together, I was able to zero it in. This thing hits like a hammer and the accuracy is great. I wish I had a chrony to post some numbers! I was shooting spinners rated for a rim fire and was knocking the crap out of them at 30 yards.

My only thing is it appears to be an air hog…maybe 20 shots at setting 8. The noise is about even with the stock ss. I love the power and the thwack when the pellets hit.

Amy suggestions on how to better manage air? It feels like I’m burning through air. Is this normal due to the tank?

Just for giggles, I may pick up and 18 in bbl.

If you change your Talon like you want, Please post and let us (me) know how it turns out. My talon ss is completly stock, might what to try it to. :8:

Thanks for the info! So if I understand you…with an 18 in barrel, suppression, hi flo tank and hammer..ill essentially have a condor ss in a Talonss frame.

Hi,

it all sounds possible but in my opinion not with a 12in, especially beyond 50yd.
Not that you won’t be able to get there, but you will likely have a huge drop with the velocities that you get with the 12in.

An 18″ barrel would get you there better, faster and more accurately.
The 24″ would be the best choice.

I believe that the 18″ barrel might be just at the end of frame on a TalonSS. You can easily figure that out with a measurement tape or a ruler.
But even if it gets close to the frame you will still loose noise suppression. This means you need a suppression extension and basically you get back to the fact that a condorSS would have probably been a better choice to shoot 50+yds accurately and with some power.

I use a talonSS frame with a talonP tank and a 12″ barrel in .22. I can take down coons but I would not take those shots beyond 50yd.
With a .25 you get more stability, but the .25 is heavy, especially if you want to push 50-60fpe on a 12″ barrel. I did not do much calculations, but your ballistic curve got to be pretty steep at 50yds. 75 and 100 expect huge drops.

To shoot with power at those distances it is already a stretch for most air guns, unless you get extreme valves and .257 or .30 cal.

Again, it’s not like the 12in won’t take you there, it’s just that accuracy and power will greatly suffer for those distances.

I think you need to compromise in power or distance.
Less power and a lighter pellet might fly further and flatter, or just learn to sneak closer to your quarries.

My 2c. Good luck

Point well taken! So to clarify…

I want to retain the compact feel of the TSS as well as the sound level.

Im hoping to gain more FPE…50-60..is that realistic with condor tank and hammer?

In terms of range 60-70 yards with decent accuracy assuming I do my part (occasional 100yd for fun but not on the regular)

I will be looking at hitting tree rats, coons, rabbits and rats

I hope his helps.

Thanks for setting me straight!

Frank

Ok, so the question should be:

1) I want to shoot to XX yds with a power of at least YY ft/lbs and at least an accuracy of ZZ inches.

-OR-

2) at least say what your application will be!!!!

Cause sure the .25 barrel will give you more power than a .22 but the 12in length is not helping much if you want to shoot far.
So what do you want to achieve? Then we can help you…..

Go to a mechanic and ask: I have a car, if I put bigger pistons and larger tires will it be better? …..
Got the point?

Cheers
Chris
