Q:

www.fumfie.com – Scam

I’ve been looking at DSLR’s for the past few weeks, finally decided on a Nikon D5000 One of the sites with a review had a link to the fumfie website and it had the cheapest price. I checked review’s and it seemed to have decent scores so I made the order.

This is how my cart looked –

Camera – $600 (I just checked their site and its now marked at $590)
S&H – $14.99

Total – $614.99

About 3 hours later I get an order confirmation which does not have any order information and just tells me to call to prevent fraud. Before I read that I get a phonecall from them wanting to go over my order which is fine, he tries to sell me a battery, memory card and a case and doesn’t give me the hard sell, except for the battery but even then not that bad.

When it comes time to confirm price he just casually says “so with the camera, shipping and handle and insurance it comes to $650.99”.

I question the difference between my card and what he’s now saying and he “explains” that its standard to charge 6% for insurance… incase it “gets lost”.

I had already price compared and new amazon.com had the same camera for $648 and I really dont like BS upselling and additional fee’s being tacked on, doesnt really fill me with confiidence even if the price had still been lower than elsewhere.

I say to cancel order and he’s “ok, good luck…..”

I always make a single time use credit card number when I buy online and set it to be the exact amount in my cart and I just cancelled that number which hadnt been preauthorized yet so I’m not worried about that, and I think they are more douchebag business people than outright con artists in the sense they would charge a card and not send a product… but who knows and why take the risk.

I just did some more checking and it seems the glowing reviews they get are distrusted by several forum’s as all being from new reviewer’s who havent made any other reviews. I looked through them all and found quite a few people with stories similar to mine who had cancelled and from people who had went ahead and made the order – only to find its a grey import with japanese or chinese writing on packaging, printed manual and no US warranty just some crappy 1 year service contract from a third party.

So…. dont buy from fumfie.

quote Yellow Ninja:

Bank of America call it “shopsafe”. Log in, select the account I want funds to come from and there’s a link called shopsafe. Select how much money to make it and when to expire and it gives you a credit card number, expiration and cv code to copy and paste.

Paypal offer’s similar service too.

That’s pretty cool! I’ma have to go talk to BOA

Wow, that sounds sweet. How do you do that? Is it offered through your bank or card holder?

theres a shitload of them dealers under different names…butterflyphoto i think is one too….they all operate like that gets somewhat great reviews on different search engines….until you notice the few people that actually took their time to actually write a negative review

they all seem to be from the same area i newyork….grey imported scammmers…..

when i looked for Hd camcorder some years back…they came up countless times with unbeatable prices…something like 30% lower…..too good to be true….and the reviews told the same story you did….scammers…

people where getting the wrong item….simelar items….grey imports….things reporten stolen….phone calls with maketer trying to add on stuff….spam mails….recieving cameras with out batteries and accesories…which they took out and sold seperatly.
