Had this happen to me with a customers gun today. Lucky the pieces only hit my arm because I was sitting on the ground firing through the chrony. First shot with one of my modded stock valves. Stock AF breech with new 90d ureathane o rings. All I did was change the stock o rings.
Gun has spin lock so I’m going to make sure it had nothing to do with it.
Fired same tank through my gun and it did 1017 fps with 62 gr, and 893 fps with 89 gr.

The knob bolt left a dent in my closet door when mine did that.

Heres a thought. The cocking knob possibly screwed in further then it’s supposed to. Creates a crack extending into the air passage. With the longer barrel and heavier bullet the pressure is higher for a longer time….
That does look like it’s split right in half where the screw is.

Made a new breech and it fires fine now.
It is setup to shoot 7 rings (this bag 70.7 gr) starting at 950 fps.
Customer supplied me with hammer and I left it at 119 g. I used a lighter spring then I use in my .25 because it seemed like he was struggling to cock my gun. Also barrel is new.
End result is if I pull the tank from his gun and shoot the next shot in my .25 it is 20-25 fps faster in my .25.
Not just from a full fill either. I pulled it after around 25 shots and it was shooting in the 870’s. Shot 900 in mine.
I know some of it’s the setup but is some because my barrel has thousands of pellets/slugs through it?

RC you need to get a longer barrel on that thing and it would put down some numbers.
I only have 3 small cuts on my forearm where some of the pieces hit. I still haven’t found all the pieces or the foam knob cover.
Wondering if it was old delrin. If you tap on the largest piece left it sounds hard. If I tap on another breech it sounds different.
What’s wierd is I use delrin on my .25 and .308 breeches. .308 has a .430″ hole instead of a .312″. I have also fired the .308 at 3500 psi and I have a few thousand rounds through it. But that is why I also put the aluminum cover on the .308 for safetly.
I did fire about 5 shots through the gun with my tank before I got his tank together. It shot my tank at 977 fps with 70 gr. I did this a month ago.
This gun was a 12″ talon SS before I put a 24″ .25, valve and 62 ci tank.
So the factory AF slidey-breech-thing is made of plastic??? I thought it was aluminum. I guess I’ll be hapy with my leaky breech seals. 😉

I once had a screw stripout of my two screw Subsonnic breechbolt and blow up and hit my scope, it put quite a ding in the scope.
I got 858.6 FPS with a 74 grainer and the 17 inch barrel and your valve yesterday.

Yes, glad you are okay. I know this was probably some kind of isolated incident, perhaps a crack as aforementioned…but since my children shoot my AF rifles…I think I am going to use the aluminum breech that saw sent me for my “MaxFlow” Doug valve/tank. I’ll deal with minimal galling—if any–in exchange for the added strength/security.
