…got warm, so went back to the co2 adaptor.

Read of two problems here on the forum recently. The valve stem working its way forward and the valve jetting gas after the shot.

Both happened this afternoon.

My cure was to take the valve apart (not hard to do on a co2 adaptor if you clamp the adaptor body on the two flats at the base with a vice).. Found the return spring “nut” had worked loose…no tenstion on the valve when closed…so gas just occasionally by-passed the valve and jetted out the barrel. Easy fix.

The valve stem was only partly knurled. It’s solid at the rear end, so rather than try my hand at stippling it, just grabbed onto it with a pair of vice grips several times, leaving the imprints of the vice grip’s ridges on the solid tip. Had to drive the valve seal onto the stem, but it seems to have cured the problem.

..the rifle starts shooting faster than expected (the valve return spring is backing out) and the vel. variaion starts getting much greater( the valve seal is not consistently fixed in depth to the stem).

Believe dry fire would help cause the seal becoming loose on the stem….we try to avoid that, but it still seems to happen. Without air pressure behind it, when the valve/valve stem slams into the valve, the stem would tend to keep on moving (inertia) when the seal stops.
