Yukon Phantom Digital NV

Purchased this to replace the stealth view and Ranger I owned briefly and returned because they weren’t suitable for behind the scope mounting due to offset lens/view screen and the sheer size.

On paper it looked to be perfect for an add on and had all the things I thought the previous two could benefit from – an inline lens/view screen, smaller design, 1x lens with a flat sided profile for a coupler to attach it behind scope.

Opening the box I was happy to see it was about the size I expected, OK construction. Then I looked at the view screen and it is TINY…. Found 4 AA’s and powered it up in my basement and was VERY disappointed in the resolution. The Ranger/Stealth view had poor resolution on the LCD (but great CCD res as shown by video out recordings) – I hoped for the same if not better LCD as those but its a LOT worse – The size and resolution are closer to the eye clops toys you can get for $20 on clearance in some places.

Here is a picture of the Yukon’s eyepiece next to a small rifle scope showing how small it is.

It wouldn’t even be that bad if the LCD filled the entire window, but unfortunately it doesn’t and appears to be at the end of a rather long tunnel and is even smaller – as shown by this video.

This was a daytime test just to check focusing and suitability behind a scope and it fails…. simple due to the viewfinder. If they would just spend a bit more on the LCD – something similar to a Camcorder’s LCD would be perfect, but it doesnt even need to be that good – I’d take Ranger/stealthview quality LCD…..
