Re. the 1/8″ npt tapped original plate, great idea! A short nipple with a 3/8″ FIP for the filter. Or buy a disk of 1/2″ thick aluminum on eBay and match drill it using the original head but you will need a 3/8″ npt tap, but that’s not expensive. I bought two and ground one down as a bottom tap.

In either case, I have the drawing up on my web…Read more

Thanks for the drilling speed recommendation Dyotat100. I did say I’m a gunstock carver not a machinist :-), and true enough I was turning much faster than that. I don’t have a back gear on my mill so I don’t think I can get down that low anyway. The steel I ordered yesterday is 303 stainless which is supposed to be much easier to machine than…Read more

Re. Bgray115’s comment: Please put this in perspective. 1) My air consumption use the last three years has been once or twice a year I have my Great White topped off. My Airmax actually does function, so despite lack of rod bearings etc. etc., it takes 9 minutes for me to accomplish my fill. If I do that once or twice a year the compressor…Read more

Yesterday I bled my Great White down to 3500 and filled it back up again to 4500 with the Airmax compressor (I didn’t go down to 3K in case I had a failure I’d still have some air…it is turkey season after all ). It took 9 minutes and the head temperature reached 180 degrees f. (I’m using the small reservoir it came with). I bled several times…Read more
