It is very good at deflecting pellets up and over and not penetrating. It will do so with rimfire and even sometimes with center fire. I do not like to take the head on shot. The barrel is only about 2 inches from the end of the gun. There is just a spacer in it. My gun is off getting a new barrel put on and tuning done to it. One thing they found out about the gun when they tore into it is that the trigger has 2 sears. So you can half cock the gun for lower power shots.

Yes that is the Bushnell. I just checked and both the Bushnell and BSA will focus down to 10 yards to about 3 power. More power and you need more distance.
