Fortunately, my .22 vulcan is tight but I have an el cheapo ar-15 with play and it drives me nuts.

Can you feel the fasteners in the stock wiggle with the top action? If so, I wonder if shortening the fastener a tad (or adding a washer to experiment) would be an answer?
