I did try screwing under pressure once and it didn’t work so well. 🙁 Ah… That could be the answer to that question. 😆 But what about the proper adjustment of the valve spring retainer. How is that achieved?

Where is KNIFEMAKER when we need him?

When I bought my .22 Talon SS a year ago, I tried 7 different pellets through it… the 18.1 gr JSB’s were the best and that is all I use now. So I second KNIFEMAKER’S sage advise. Welcome to TAG.

So by tuning or turning BOTH, the top hat AND the valve spring retainer (at the bottom of the valve… inside the tank) a tune for higher power can be achieved. But doing so apparently renders the lower power settings on the PW less reliable for consistency at the those lower levels. If I understand the mechanics of these two parts correctly,…Read more

OK, as I sit here with my Corona in hand, let me do a “check for understanding.”

MrNewbie, suggested moving the top hat out (away from the tank) which, as I understand it, will allow an increased amount of air to escape when impacted by the hammer. More air for each shot with a goal of higher FPS (pellet speed). Is this correct?

It depends greatly on your intended use. If you are going to punch paper or knock down targets, you probably don’t need a .25… a .177 or .22 will give more full power shots per charge, thus less down time for charging. If you are hunting small to medium game, the .25 would come in very handy. With AF guns, you choose the caliber, barrel…Read more

Some shooters use an eye patch covering the non-aiming eye. The patch (or sometimes just a small sticky on the lens of your shooting glasses) allows the brain to “see” the image only through the aiming eye, AND, the patch allows the non-aiming eye to relax, so that muscles in the lid are not working so hard. It doesn’t sound like much, but if…Read more

With muscles in the body, the right side of the brain controls the left side muscles; the left side of the brain controls the right. But with your eyes, both hemispheres of the brain control parts of BOTH eyes. That’s why eye dominance has nothing to do with right or left handedness. And eye dominance can be stronger in some people than others.…Read more

I was a range master for a time and responsible for teaching those who had trouble qualifying. One of the first things I did was to find out if the shooter was aiming with their dominant eye and if it was the same as their shooting/gun hand… this was all pistol/revolver shooting. Most of them had no idea which of their eyes was dominant until I…Read more

I agree with the CO2 to get very consistent, lower power (FPE) shots out of a Talon SS either in .22 or .177, and you’d be getting about 200 shots out of a charge… but you’d really have to be comfortable with your gun for use in the dark. And certainly a laser can be adjusted for 10-20 ft., but the red light might scare the rats… never tried…Read more
