Piston to cylinder clearance is not an issue because the orings do the sealing. It’s true helium is harder to seal but it should work good enough to get some pressure up.

There is some big mystery going on here. We have never had a compressor shut off at 1500 psi and never had a burst disk fail at that pressure. Most likely there is a clog in your air line to the tank that is sealing up after 1500 psi.

I have the cylinders custom made. They have .001 clearance so unless you went to a bigger piston which would cause problems there is not much more there.

Neither is bad for the ShoeBox. It just changes the fill time and the shut off pressure. If you don’t have a shop compressor believe me your better off spending 100-150 bucks because you will find lots of uses for it.

You would normally only finger tighten the allen nut on the end but if you tightened it up all the way and it worked, then the big oring is your problem.
