Anyone selling .223 Conversion Kits?
If so, who and what kind of performance are they getting?
I know Vincent Van Gerven had one and it shot pretty well at range…

Any idea on the price for the custom turned barrel? I would love to get in on a group buy. We could try the 12 and 7in twist barrels and start up a whole new category of air rifles. BTW the following bullet molds might be perfect for experimentation.

Well, I must have offended the airgun genie, because as soon as I got everything together to have my shooting session, I discovered that my Condor tank had gone flat and won’t hold air. I need to send it to AirForce I guess. Maybe it will be under warranty… if not, it can’t be too bad anyway.

Good luck! That’s good news that the slugs are full size, you should have a chance at good results. If it doesn’t work out perfect, you might want to consider buying .223 and .222 sizing dies from Lee. They are inexpensive and .001 can make a big difference.
He casts them at .224 and then runs them through a die to size them for the Condor barrel. He had three diameters to allow for variations in bore size. I had all three sizes but that didn’t matter, twist rate was more important. I expect to have the barrel and a fresh supply of .224 bullets tomorrow. The weather is to be nice here this weekend, so I’ll get to play.
So Bob made you some bullets sized for a .223 barrel? Or do you plan on shooting .217 bullets from a .223 barrel?
I don’t have the BC as of yet. I can use chairgun to get it, when I start testing. I have had some of the bullets and tested them using the standard barrel. The results of that testing led me to getting the faster twist barrel. The bullets are some of Robert Vogel’s soft cast hollow points. They look very good and with the new barrel, I expect they will also fly well. I’ll know after the next round of testing. Barrel and bullets are both on the way.
What is the BC of these .223 bullets that you don’t have?
Do you have a BC value for the pellets/slugs you are planning on using?
I have the stock Condor valve but may look for a “super valve” depending on my results. I don’t need lots more raw power than I’m getting, the hope is to get better long range performance due to the better BC of the bullets. My Condor isn’t maxed out power wise, so I expect it will push the bullets to an acceptable velocity if I add hammer weight and adjust the top hat a bit. I just hope it meets my expectations, or maybe even exceeds them a bit.
I am getting some more of Bob Vogel’s 43 gr hollow points. I tried them before ( sized to .217″ ) in the stock .22 barrel, but the twist is too slow to stabilize them, so they wobbled their way to the target and cut slightly oval holes. He makes them dead soft and they expand quite well at Condor velocities, but grouped about an inch at 43 yards. That might have been acceptable for short range hunting, but I wanted better accuracy and more range. I have expectations of much better results this time around, but good or bad, I’ll post what I get.
Bob’s bullets work well in my 9mm Career, the twist/bullet length works fine. The .217 bullets carry lots of energy down range, but they’re too long to stabilize at the factory twist rate.
The .223 diameter probably won’t shoot Eun Jin pellets worth a darn, but it just might. I should know in a few days whether I’ve wasted some money, or built a better rat trap… heh heh…. hoping for the latter.
I’ll be watching for your posts on the project gun. Hopefully it works out and yeah, for me I’d be wanting more like an inch at 100 yards if investing the money and time into it.
l have airguns capable of sub 1/2″ groups at 50 yards already shooting pellets, but would love to have something that was consistent at ranges well beyond that and the idea of a converted Condor intrigues me…
Are you planning on using the stock Hi Flow tank initially or start off with a custom valve?
