Wolf is up next – after that, the spankin’ new Daystates.
If it turns out that I want to keep an AoA gun, the “famous” Matador may soon find itself in the classifieds (my pockets aren’t deep enough to own multiple “super PCPs”. I care about one thing only – accuracy. The Royale held its own against the Matador. The Matador barely (and I mean BARELY 3/100th’s of an inch average) beat it in the accuracy “test” (it very well could have swung the other way had I done a second test). And, not having to clean the barrel as much is certainly a welcome change. The slow-motion camera also showed that the Edgun sends out more “wobblers” than the Royale (the Royale didn’t do any, acutally).
The Royale had a lot to like. But, in the end….I just didn’t feel like going through the learning curve again with another gun. BUT, if I get my hands on a gun that can put down that 10-shot MOA group repeatedly at 100 yards, the Edgun hits the classifieds, plain and simple.
I hope I’m not sounding like a dick – it’s just a heads-up to you guys – I may have to make the “other guns” page my new home, soon. 🙂 I have no loyalties to any gun or manufacturer. I am 100% committed to my quest for the MOST ACCURATE gun I can get my hands on. And each month will bring a new challenger from AoA.
NOW FOR MY QUESTION: I have arguably THE best known Matador in the Western World. If I go to sell it, do you think I need to include every speck of information I’ve ever recorded and written, or can I just sell it like every other guy sells guns (one photo of the gun – one photo of the best 5-shot group ever attained with that gun) 😀
I’d like to hear your thoughts – no matter how rude they are. 😆

Ted, The Leupy barrel will cost me $250 delivered. I thought that it would be a lot more considering the work he is going to do on it.
My LW .25 cal .619″ OD barrel was $190 and I still had to have the breech end O ring groove cut.
…I wouldn’t worry about supplying any kind of target pics or other info. If you find another airgun, that you like better, just post your Edgun for sale. It will last quick!

I still can’t believe you are having a custom barrel machined for your .25. You have too much money…..and also too much time by the looks of your new avatar (which I can NOT stop laughing at)! 😆

I do not doubt this for one minute, Ed. And it brings up a good point, if I buy and R3 and decide that I prefer my current Matador (or another gun) more, it’s not like I’ll lose any money on the transaction. I’m not sure that can be said for any other gun…. 😕 Hmmmmmmmmmmm 😉

GuyZ, I appreciate you taking the time to write up that well-thought-out and sometimes humorous response. 🙂 I think you make many good points. One point that I would add to yours is one that is very specific to the needs of my Youtube channel. The LONG picatinny rail on the Matador allows me to push the scope far to the front of the gun. This allows the camera to fall into my “normal” eye position. Not many other guns have such flexibility when it comes to mounting a scope. I’ll need to consider the “needs” of my viewers, too. LOL
Still, all I’m saying is…in the next year, I will be like the Sultan with a huge harem of concubines. But, I can only be married to one. 😆

As for me — I vote for Ted sell his Matador 🙂 I have no doubts he will easily do it for the same price he paid for it, since that is that famous EDgun from youtube 🙂 So, as soon as he does it he will have money to take another EDgun, Matador R3, to play with it. Many of my clients do it — sell the old one and buy a new one, not spending additional money or spending them a little 🙂 I think Ted will find a lot of things in R3 which are completely different from what he used to 🙂 Especially barrel 🙂

I haven’t posted in a while but I lurk nearly every day. Been working a lot with no time to shoot. I find your post interesting and have a few things to say. First of all, I make it a point to read all your posts as you are the MAN when it comes to Edguns. I appreciate all your shared knowledge as it has saved me countless hours of tinkering.
I own quite a few popular PCP’s, Royale, Edgun Matador, AZ Rapids, Daystate MK3, etc… I’m not telling you this to brag, I’m telling you this becuase I feel I’m a mirror image of you. (I’m a lot fatter though LOL) I’m someone looking for awesome accuracy and a desire to play with new toys. I love the excitement of getting a new gun and doing chrony work, tuning triggers etc…It’s like when you were young and started a new relationship with some hot chiqiuta. New and exciting!!!!!
In my 15 year airgun journey I have learned two things. You’ll never be happy and you’ll never find the perfect “most accurate” airgun. Sure your Edgun shoots awesome at 50 yds. You might find that it shoots right along side a Daystate MCT at 50 yds. Now go to 100 yds and the Daystate shoots tighter groups. OK, so which gun is better?? To me, airguns are tools. Just like a pair of tin snips. You have a tool to do a job, right cuts, left cuts or straight cuts. If I’m going to shoot feeding pigeons at 50 yds out the back door would I do it with the Edgun or the Airwolf MCT. I myself am going Edgun. If I’m going to shoot pigeons at some guys farm, taking shots at 85 plus yards I’m probably going with the Airwolf. Each gun is a tool that has a distinct purpose. You enjoy accuracy and shooting tight groups, but how fun will it be to lug a nearly 45 inch gun around in the woods when most of your shots are 50 yds or less? I think you smell what I’m shoveling right?
I would never sell your Edgun if I were you at least not for a while. The Edgun is extremely easy to service etc.. Hell, I’ll bet you could find the awesome accuracy you’re looking for just by swapping barrels. Much less expesive than a new gun too!! This way you could keep the trusted bullet proof platform you have and not succumb to the world of batteries and electronics or front heavy 500 cc bottles. I’m not bashing the Daystates or FX guns, but lets face it, there are definitely more complications “possible” with electronic guns comparatively speaking. I didn’t enjoy waiting for a new battery pack and wondering how long this one is going to last, trust me on that.
Oh, and what about the FX guns?? Nice all around package don’t you think? I think they definitely have the innovation category sewed up with the smooth twist barrel and other various options. Unfortunately for me, mine doesn’t shoot as accurately as my Edgun at long range (greater than 50 yds). The FX Royale does shoot better in the wind though. Once again, I still can’t find that super accurate, all condition, hunter, target plinker airgun. So to wrap it all up as I’m getting long winded… I think if you really find the hankering to start a new relationship with some hot chiquita, put her on layaway (A of A will work with you I promise) and keep your Edgun. You’ll be glad you did.

I am waiting for a custom Leupy BSA .25 cal barrel for my Long Matador. I think that I have come up with a different mounting system that I hope turns out. If it dosen’t, I can go back to the stock mounting system and still use the BSA barrel. I have high hopes for the Leupy barrel!
I don’t know about the Theoben Mk 4 trigger, my Edgun’s triggers can be adjusted down to a point where they are too sensitive for me.
I don’t know about the Weihrauch’s sturdiness, if it is more sturdy than an Edgun, it could be used for a hammer also.
I have a FX Royale 400. I don’t care for the magizine and use a single shot tray instead. If I do my part, a quick second shot should not be needed.
I had Marmont make me two .619″ ID barrel mounts. I have a .619 LW .25 cal barrel and the custom Leupy BSA barrel will also be .619″ Should take me about 10 minutes to swap em.
My .25 long has become something for me to play with this winter, while I am waiting for my R3 .25 cal long.
My system was starting to become immune to the regular strength Edgun Kool Aid. Fortunately, Ed has come up with a new, improved, stronger version. 😆
Ted, I am really looking forward to your reviews, Edgun Vs whatever. I also found the Royale to be less accurate, than my Edguns. It was close but, the Edguns were easier to point and shoot than the longer Royale was.
I have my doubts that you will find a gun that is consistently more accurate than you .22 standard. Then again, I find myself to be wrong on a daily basis.

Good thoughts, Mark. And I agree on all points. The Edgun is certainly one of the easiest guns to work on. I really like that the whole thing isn’t “spring loaded”, so when you remove a piece it doesn’t go flying across the room. 😆
I think the point I want to make most clear is that in any series of guns, some just shine a bit brighter than others. And I eventually think that one of these “diamonds” will land in my lap – and I will not be able to part with it. Imagine if Ed sent me a new and different EDgun prototype every month. How long do you think it would take until my love for my current gun faded? 😆
That is what I’m saying – with 12 very high-end guns coming and going this year, there is a good chance that one of them will out-shoot that Edgun. And when that time comes, I will not pause – I will not hesitate to do what I must do. Hahahaha.
So, keep your checkbooks close. 😉

I am not sure how long 100yrd MOA and SUB-MOA abilities have been capable in the World of PCP’s. But I think if it is like the PB world, 90% is the Barrel. (Chamber / Crown / Rifling )……. Now tie that in with projectile design, and the “Power Plant” The rest are just options. I don’t know if there is “ONE” Do ALL PCP. It will depend on your application.
Hunting (game Size dependent and Distance) – Paper Punching (distance & accuracy) – Portability – Size – Quietness
I think the “EDgun” is the only PCP that is promoted as “User Serviceable”. I have not seen any other manufacture support his customers in the same fashion. All the others…. “Void Warranty” if you take them apart.
Once you have shot several different guns will you find benefits of the different features that they offer.
Ideally….as Air gun barrel technology evolves manufactures will make a gun that can easily have the barrels upgraded. Also I hope that the Pellet manufactures may re-design the projectiles based on THE NEW Power abilities.
So…. Smooth twist Barrel on an edgun?…. or one of the new LW barrels that appears to be in the works OR BSA or ????? Something new is always in the air. From what I have read the Custom barreled Theoben guns shoot amazing. So may options… so little cash……

No need Ted, – It’s not your fault. You’re just approaching a more developed form of “airgunitis”. Monogamy is not typical for this disease, – Polygamy is more common, and may cause serious problems in the end…..
That’s when you can really start to complain about pockets not being deep enough…..
Been there, done that and I still do. I’ve never gotten out of it……..
As for electronics, I am as keen as you are. BUT just like the keyboards and things we masturbate Bill Gates and friends with, – they get outdated veeeery fast. Compared to old fashioned no frills all steel like the HW100 and co.
The latter may be dipped in water, soaked in mud or used as a snow showel. Just rinse it, wipe it off and it still works. Year after year. The design sucks, but at least they don’t complain about batteries being flat/gone off or corroded micro switches…..
They need better barrels though, so I had a BSA Ultra barrel put into mine. It’s probably the most reliable PCP I ever owned, regulated and deadly accurate….
You’re in for some fun, but be aware: You’ll soon be needing a turbo charger for your plastics……. 😉
