Shoebox complete with Joe’s hose
I have been filling my Pygmee bottle, which gives me 3 fills in the field, it is handy but it has a limited capacity.
I had purchased a few months ago, a 14 year old 44 cuft scba tank off of Ebay for less than 100 bucks, but I still needed a fill hose.
Monday I bit the bullet and sent Joe Brancato a USPOMO for a hose set, today I got it. Joe is said to be one of the best guys in the industry and the sport to deal with, my dealings with him did nothing to change that reputation, he is great to deal with.
As I type this I can hear that sewing machine sound in the background, as it fills my 30 minute tank. I figure it will take 10 hours to fill from empty at a 450 PSI per hour rate.
But once full, I will have 17 refills for the Condor, on extended hunting trips I will have 20 full refills and a handy Pygmee bottle to pack on my belt or in a pack. It will take 3.3 hours to fill from 3000 PSI to 4500 PSI once it is in use.
I have gotten on the list to get one of the new 58 caliber rifles from XP-airguns, so this set up will come in very handy.
I have the Shoebox on a timer, for three hours to allow for lubrication. I had to change out the moisture filter, I bought a new one at Harbor Freight today for $9.99, I need to get one I can recharge. The first one lasted me two months, that is about 2 or 3 thousand shots. But our humidity runs around 85% or better most of the time here.
Make sure your moisture trap is on the Shoebox end and that you have a long line from your shop compressor to the Shoebox, this allows the air to cool down and the moisture to be drawn from it easier.

I missed it if you’ve said as such. That incident I spoke of was about 1989. I remember the police officers in the area were on horseback. I thought that was sort of odd, considering it was downtown.

Portland is a wild town, a lot of studies on Police shootings take place in Portland because they have so many. Right now they have lost most of the confidence of the citzens due to iffy shootings.
I once trailed a blood trail from a dinner table, where the family gunfight erupted, out the front door and down a sidewalk to where the victim(? )got into a car ad drove off. He left a blood trail that reminded me of trailing a wounded deer, in that there were chunks of bloody bone laying in the trail.
He ended up checking into a hospital 8 or 9 hours later and refused to talk.
Always thought that was weird, the analogy between a deer trail and a human one.
I at first thought I would have trouble hunting again after 1979, that smell after shooting a deer or elk of burned gun powder and blood has never been the same to me.

weren’t those sabots made by lyman for .75 cal. muskets? have you tried dixie gun works??, i think i remember seeing them there. can’t be sure anymore, been so long since i had one of their catalogs. 😕

My Shoebox was leaking and the o rings were not torn. Knowing what I know now, I would have manufactured a allen wrench and tightened them up. THere is a hollow set screw at the end of each cylinder that you can adjust, but I know of no wrench to do it with, but if you take the large wrenches that are needed and cut a channel into them to fit around the pistons you could screw it in and expand the orings so that they do not leak.
I tried that today with a dremel flex shaft and a cutoff wheel and got one done about 75% of the way, but ate up a cut off wheel. With a end mill it would be simple.
I have had mine running about 2 months, probably averaged a half hour a day, so maybe 25 to 30 hours total. If I had to tear it down again, it would take maybe 20 to 30 minutes to replace the o rings. No big job.
Stoly Vodka is pretty much my exclusive drink.

Having just rebuilt my Shoebox compressor, make sure you have good snap ring pliars and dental picks. Harbor Freight has those, I opted for a pick a little different than dental picks that came in a pack of 6 I think it was. Make sure you dull and polish the end so that you do not scratch the inside of the cylinders.

Ok Roach I will have those tools coming for future use, I am assuming you are up and running again about how many hours did you have on your tank any idea? just curious how many or how many tanks you filled before having to change out the orings. could you tell the orings were bad or worn? or were they torn? Well if the orings and the bushings need attention it is still a very good way to fill tanks. the alternative hand pumps suck!! Well maybe someday I can get down your way for an Elk dinner let me know what you like to drink I can bring a bunch and we can have a great time 😯

Of all the cities Ive been in, Portland Oregon is the only one I ever felt unsafe in after dark.

Was trying to get scalped tickets to The Ramones one night in front of the Rosalind Theater <–sp?, and the crowd outside was the typical punk rocker types. All at once, the crowd started parting like the Red Sea. Thru the opening walked this guy nearly 7′ tall, face pock-marked from a shotgun blast, his clothes soaked in blood. He looked like a Rob Zombie cartoon I kid you not.
As he passed, there wasn’t a sound in the city. It was as if everything stopped to let death walk by.
Then the crowd closed back up, and resumed their chatting and nobody seemed to even have the guy in his thoughts.
That walk back to my car parked at the train depot just about took the last bit of nerves I had. I never did hear anything more about the guy, nothing hit the paper or was mentioned in the news. That has always bothered me.
Sorry for going OT, but Portland does that to me.

Jesus Roach I surely did not know all of that but I am happy you shared it with me and others! Wow that is quite a story in itslef, I am proud just to know you and I mean that! I guess me being young never thought about Portland in that respect but as far as that goes any town I guess! things like that can happen anyplace! 😯 Well my feelings do go out to you for sure and you are an amazing guy and have went through way to much for one Man! I see now why you do what you do and I mean that with much respect! for you 😉 I do hope all goes well for you in whatever you do that is just plain to much to happen to one guy. Man I wish I could come over and at least have a beer and I love to cook so I am going to figure out a pizza you can eat let me know what you can’t have on it and I will come up with something you will like trust me I am a good cook! Well like I said I hope things work out well sounds like you at least have some things figured out that makes your body hurt for sure, it has always amazed me how some assholes can fuck up a good persons life and most of the time they aren’t worth the skin they are in! Well to get off this subject my shoebox should be a couple weeks or so, I went to my local Lowes Home Improvment store for some wood supplies and walked over to there air compressor sections and they had the filters like you have and I have got to know all the guys in the store I go to and got to talking to one of them and walked out and forgot to get one, I will have to remember next time I go in there quite a bit for kitchens and such that I work on so not a big deal, they aren’t going anywhere! Hey, I just installed a new high power .177 x 12″ barrel 😆 😆 that I got from Tony266. I got it by mistake but can’t stand to part with it. Tony does beautiful work. So, I converted back to .177 Condor SS with my modified hammer spacer arrangement and Powderburner’s o-ring. Finally got the ice and snow off my sloped driveway and the range was plowed for a competition so I got out for a few break-in shots. No time for chrony or even setup a target, just used the corner of one someone left setup at 50 yards. 25 shots on paper is all I can say as 3000 PSI is to much for 7.5 grain CPHP’s. Another high power rifle shooter came over and was very interested in the looks and sound of what I was shooting and said he will be looking up the AF rifle. That made my day. 😀 I don’t think he’s old enough to be ATF 😆
Oh, thanks to you, I got a Tack Driver. Works a lot better than a bi-pod and just the right height for me from the bench. I could actually see some of the pellets in flight. I had to re-close the 2 fill ports to stop the fill from leaking as they weren’t tucked in flat but otherwise a great piece of equipment. Only a sissy would complain about the weight. 🙄
Sure wish I were closer to getting my ShoeBox. But, the hand pump is half the reason I got into the air rifle sport.

It takes place in Portland Oregon, Eastern Oregon and Quantico Va.
They are all in manuscripts, one is on a USB in the Philippines.
Perhaps. I am going to buy one of those new geewhiz scanner/printer/copiers next week, so it may happen.

Yes I started off as a traffic officer for the Oregon State Police in Arlington, Oregon, sound familiar, that is in your back yard, went from there to Bend Oregon, Traffic, and from there to Narcotics, then back to Traffic in Beaverton. After 7 years with the OSP, I switched horses and went to work for Portland PB, for more money and excitement which I got real fast.
I worked prowl in all the precincts and retired out of Narcotics.
Portland adopted the horse patrol just after I was pensioned out. My prowl distircit in Portland was Columbia Villa, which is where the first gang ativity started, if that tells you something.
