Regarding EMP vs. GTI (General Total Incineration)

My research during the Cold War indicated a 100 megaton H bomb, detonated at an altitude of 100 miles would incinerate an area the size of six states, briefly raising the surface temperature to that of the surface of the sun (10K F).

Now that is likely only in the instance of nation on nation thermonuclear war. EMP is most likely in the event of a kilaton device smuggled into the U.S. (a plutoniom bomb would only require 10 lbs of fissionable material) so we are looking at a suitcase sized device, with a single digit kiloton capacity. Remember Uranium and Plutonium are the heaviest elements on Earth, and 10 lbs would be smaller than a tennis ball.

The fortunate(?) result of a ground burst device in the kiloton range is that very little EMP would result, nor could it reach very far from the detonation site. That’s why EMP devices always are detonated at high altitudes.

Did you know that the EMP pulse is generated nano-seconds prior to the actual fission process taking place, and scientists can now stop the fission reaction immediately following the EMP burst? Such a sub-fission device was reported to be detonated over Bagdad during the first attack. Only trace amounts of radio-activity, no flash, no heat, no air burst or overpressure. So, an EMP device can be used without technically detonating an atomic or hydrogen bomb, and happens so fast, and with such small amounts of detectable pre-fission products, that it is next to impossible to prove it even took place. Other than the fact that nothing electronic will work, unless military grade shielded components are used, or as this forum suggest, rerouting the energy away from the devices.

I can make a man brain dead at 50 yards with my .25 Talon, and no one near him will hear it happen. I don’t have to kill him, just render him unable to process any meaningful thoughts.

With low power and next to no noise, It’s pretty difficult to take out an opponent you can’t see, hear, or locate, especially if you wake up with a severe headache and the IQ of an avacado.

I don’t particularly want to talk to anyone following such an event. I just want a clear 300 meter field of view, my Savage rifle and 12X scope, and arrangements to silently deal with anyone who gets within 50 yards, or closer.

Given the localized impact of a terrorist sized device, it would be only a matter of hours, or days at the most, before the military would arrive and bring about martial law. It’s the few days in between when you need to take care of business personally. There’s lots of ignorant, armed, morons who would not see the bigger picture and want to immediately start looting and gathering up other peoples goodies, better looking women and dogs.

I don’t paticularly want to kill anyone. With carefully placed head shots, small caliber, I intend to hare-lip every living, armed creature on Toad Creek who comes toward my property.

Just a few Christian thoughts on how to survive if things get a bit uneasy for a few days to a week.

The other safe place is under water for your smaller EMP sensitive devices. Zip lock bag them and put them in the water barrel in the basement where you plan on hiding from the first blast wave.
Actually get a large enough tank (farm water storage from Tractor Supply) that you can submerge in during the radioactive heat wave. After that it’s just staying away from the dust.

The only safe place during an EMP is to not be within range of the EMP.

Consider a nice tranquil country setting with fresh water, good soil, forest nearby and abundant game. That’s good for 3 months then you can figure out your next move.
