Honest Input (help a fellow airgunner out)

I’m tired of waivering on this choice:
1. Buy a talon ss .22
2. Buy an air arms s510 carbine (multishot) .22
Yes, there is a major price difference, but I would be putting a maddog stock on the talon from R&L (the edgun looking stock $300), which puts me at basically the same cash outlay. I currently have an AA S500 full length (single shot .22), which is absolutely incredible. I can get 1″ groups with it at 100yards with little effort at 75% power 870-900 fps. It is very quiet, probably quiter than a stock SS even when it’s on full power pushing JSB 18 grainers at 930-940 fps.
The reason I’m even going for another one is to have something shorter and lighter. There isn’t much difference in length or weight S510 carbine vs. Talon ss (talon will weigh more once maddog stock is put on.)
I think the Talon looks simply AWESOME with the maddog stock, not so good out of the box though…..sorry. However, looks are really insignificant if the accuracy isnt there. I’m spoiled with my AA. I can absolutely nail anything I aim at.
Of course it is ultimately my decision, but what I would need out of the talon ss is for it to at least be able to consistently make 1″ groups out to 70-75 yards—in addition to being light and field handy, which I already know it is. Soooooooooo, I guess I’m asking if the accuracy is truly there with the talon. I know it would be out of the box with the s510.
Given a choice what would you do? I know this an AF forum and I expect some bias 😆

However, BE AWARE the carbine will reduce your pellet speed by 100 fps with the same pellets and psi as the standard rifle…unless you are located in the 12 fpe limit countries.
You can’t believe those fps postings that show the carbine shooting at the same speed as the standard rifle…just not the way it is.
Of course, it you are targeting shooting and plinking at yard pests, that is plenty of fpe to take care of business.

Fortunately I’m not at full power (75%), and at 100 yards it really packs a punch and groups very very well. If the power is lacking with the carbine I will have 2 choices, turn up to full power and/ or use my JSB 16 grainers instead of the 18. Either way, 100 yards is not typical for shooting, other than just “seeing what she’ll do”.

My thoughts:
If you want a pcp that looks beautiful, functions flawlessly, has excellent accuracy, adjustable power, but needs an add on moderator to get dead quiet, then buy the AA510, PAG has the best moderator available for the 510. Also, I’d get the .25 caliber. This is a buy and shoot pcp and will last a very long time.
If you want a totally modifiable pcp, with black rifle looks, infinite choices of mods that will double or triple the base cost of the rifle, and you can’t keep your hands off the equipment inside, then definitely get the AF product.
It’s very simple. Buy the hands on and shoot AA510 and shoot without making a single adjustment. Or buy the AF and never stop modifying it.
Personally, I’d get the AA510 in .25 caliber, with the PAG custom milled modifier designed especially for the AA, and never regret it….ever!
But then, some of us never learn, or know what we really want, so we buy all of them and keep selling and looking. Edgun is the only pcp I would buy and keep forever, because it does it all, but initial cost is substantial and bullpups are not for everyone.

I am very familiar with the AA’s. My S500 FAC Xtra, to me, is super quiet pushing a .22 JSB 18.1 grainer at 930 fps. And 99.9% of the time I am on 75% power pushing that same pellet 880-900, even quiter…I can snap my fingers much louder.
I completely agree that if I want to tinker and mod then AF is the best option, but ultimately I just want to sight it in and shoot with only necessary maintenance 😀
I think I’m going with the S510 carbine this time, because I simply want the same gun I already have, just shorter and lighter. And it’s a multishot to boot 😎
I imagine some day I’ll pick up a talon or something. If it doesn’t do what I want it to do I will just sell it.

I have owned both and currently have a Stubby Talon in .25 caliber. Shooting 950 fps with .25gr JSB.

I have a TSS and my only real complaint is the scope to bore distance 2.75-3.00″. Since it’s a take down rifle I overlook that as I use a laser for sub 12 yard distances.
If you add a wood stock then you’re better off with an AA510 carbine… it’s scope to bore is a more reasonable, and standard, 1.5″…. making close range shots a no brainer.
I am tempted to get an AA510 myself but dove season is upon me and I’m blowing cash on shells, clays, and a day lease.
Oh, I kept the green one. It’s the purple that had to go. The hilt had too much bling 😆 😆
No prob but if you had a green light saver then I would have kept it 😆

My 2 AA’s have been exceptional performers. I’m going for the AA S510 Carbine .22 just a little over 7 lbs. with my Airforce scope, so that’ll do the trick.
I know what it wll do, so I guess my mind is made up. Thanks.
get AA if your gunna spend the cash
Useage would be my criteria, and I’d opt for the Talon IN MY CASE, but you might look at my line of reasoning.
I’m a hunter. My Talon, the way it’s set up, weighs less than 7 pounds with scope and mounts. I don’t care how much or how prestigeous a gun can be. I’m simply not going to carry an air rifle that weighs more than my .300 Weatherby in the field. Sorry, Air Arms.
If you are hunting seriously with air, the Talon is the best thing going. Even better than the Condor because it weighs a pound less. Don’t care what it looks like (cool for me is not a criterion), just it’s function.
Now, remember, that is for hunting only. For paper punching, no. But I’d have to spend a whack of money to find a gun that could outshoot my Talon.
That’s doable.
