FX Royale 400& Leupold VXIII 4.5×14 LR Holland reticle
I got the FX Royale and the Leupold scope in today along with some Sports Match rings.
The scope was advertised as being a 30 MOA ART reticle and was in fact a 21 MOA reticle, it is so frickin cool I can live with that.
I mounted the scope on the rilfe and was able to sight it in and get two groups off the 58 220s Mercedes before dark.
I usually shoot my Condor and Ranger 45 at this range, if I get 1/2 inch I am stoked, the FX Royale did not shoot 1/2 inch groups. It shot two groups with identicle measurements, .21 for 5 shots, twice.
I bought a bottle of expensive French Vodka made from grapes that I am nursing this evening, it is so very smooth, but not as smooth as this rifle scope comination.
Tomorrow it is another day starting with a 5 mile power hike, hoping hot coffee shakes off the effects of this fine vodka, up and down the hills in the vineyard, then some 50 to 100 yard benchrest shooting.
Life here in Oregon is a dark and lonely job, but someone has to do it.

Boy the envy is big, these guns sound great and the groups show its a shooter.
Once I saw the schematics, I can see there are no spacers, oh well mine has them now, sure makes it easier to reassemble the trigger, hopefully I will never have to do it. It does like the trigger spring set screw has been replaced and the one on there does not hold the spring in position, so I will make one that does.
I got scope today for 50-60-709-80-90-100 on the Hollands reticle.
And I installed a front sling stud for a bipod or sling. I did this by contersinking a 1 inch fender washer in the inside of the stock and glassing it in with the nut on top of that.

Nice groups Roachcreek with that Royale.
I saw you were asking question about that trigger and spacers. Royale is nice gun but for some reason, to my disappointment, you can’t find any good schematics of the gun to really look at the parts. Many people on the Yellow ask about it but for some reason FX doesn’t let people have it.
I got exactly the same gun you have (with synthetic stock that is) and I had issues with accuracy. Couldn’t figure out what the heck was wrong with it. Thought it was scope at first (have Hawke Tactical 6.5-20X44 half mildot on it), checked everything and cleaned the barrel, thought maybe there was a clipping or so. But for some reason never thought of trying different pellets. Everyone has great results with JSB but found out that mine really likes Barracudas! I shoot them at 39fpe and get 50 shots from fill.
I fill mine to 220bar and it shoots the same velocity as if I would start from 200bar.
Anyway, nice to see you enjoying the gun and it shoots well.

Yes, if I was a bird flying north, those grapes would be first on my menu.
I read that the regulator is at it’s very best in the Royale 500, it gives you more shots and believe it or not more power. My rifle does not have one and on the 400 it is does not thave the impact that it does on the 500.
Mine was used, and they test shot it, but failed to notice the saftety was disconnected, and that the sear had the shimms removed so the sear could wobble back and forth shaking out the sear spring, which did not have a spring guide.
I was shooting those groups yesterday and the gun started discharging as soon as I touched the trigger.
The plus side is I have to pat myself on the back for trigger control, if you look at those groups you can see I was not waiving it around as it was discharging.
So last night I had to make little plastic spacers for the sear retaining pin to pass thru and keep the sear from wobbling and find a way to attach the sping end to the adjustment screw and sear. I found the cure, it was called supperglue. I also super glued the pacers to the sear and contoured them to the contour of the sear.
The off shoot of all this is screwing with AF rifles for two years prpbably gave me the skills to do all that.

Got a Royale 500 .25 coming next week w/ a reg. added. I can’t find any info on how to get at it and adjust it, though it’s done to +/- fpe. Damn Condor, I didn’t tinker much with my guns until I got one. Now, can’t seem to keep my hands away from the toolbox.
We had a crappy grape year in Virginia, too. Rained like hell pre-harvest. I work in a vineyard out here. 2010, we were dumping 100,000 gallons of water per day on the vines, prayin for rain. This year, the Cab Savs are coming out pink! Glad I’m the horticulturist and not the winemaker. The upside was a big crop of Shiitake mushrooms at home.
Roach, the birds will be back; they can’t resist. With enough ammo and your new toy, maybe ya won’t need to fertilize the vines much…bird mulch! Very nutrient-rich.

I decided to see what kind of a shot count I could get from a full bottle and still keep the groups together.
Pellet was the JSB 18.1 grains.
I shot 5, 12 shot groups from 35 yards off the top of the Mercedes starting with a fill of 3000 PSI and ending with a fill of 1900 PSI. Velocity went from a high of 913 FPS to a low of 854 FPS.
When I was finished I refilled the rifle, went too far and filled it to 3100 PSI, so I shot another 12 shots to lower the fill pressure, that group was the tightest, the last group ending in 1900 PSI was the biggest group.
The last groups velocity with the over fill was 898 to 903. So I am still learning.
Average of the 6, 12 shot groups was .55, the smallest was .39 and the largest .73.

Yeah that Hollands is great, I am glad it was not the 30 MOA and was the 21 MOA instead. The 30 has the optical center of the scope 3 inches above the reticle intersection, so unless you have a FFP scope, the intersection moves every time you change power. With the 21 the center is the intersection so the POI does not move when you change power.

not much of a bottle gun nut outside of AF but the Indy has kind of intrigued me so pulled the trigger on this one!
just needs decent glass now…love the Hollands milling reticle
btw if you want to make thet 400 all Purty I do have this stock I may be willing to part with!
We had clouds of the speckled bastards last week, and now that I have a extreme bird killing machine, they have left.
So it is back to paper for a few months.

I hunted elk with a custom 340 Weatherby for a few years. it weighed 6 3/4 lbs. On a Remington 700 long action, 6 enterprise stock and a pencil thin Douglas barrel. I had it magnaported but it eventually bubbled up the magnaporting. I shot it three times to see what the recoil was like without the magnaporting and broke the stock. Another new stock and a Hollands beehive muzle break and it was back in service.
I used 250 Noslers, 2nds that I would get at the factory in Bend Oregon, it is a grand elk cartridge, It never left a blood trail tho…they died in their tracks, I killed 5 or 6 head with it, interestingly enough those big Noslers seldom exited.
The 338 is a fine cartridge also but just does not have the range that a 340 does. I had one on a FN Mauser t, Douglas barrel with a Mdl 70 barrel contour and a custom floor plate and composite stock, very accurate gun, I killed a lot of elk with it, but it was a 30-06 range gun, where the 340 is more of a 300 Mag range rifle.
A aquaintance once told me he only had one vice, which was lying, he said if you admitted to lying you never had to admit to anything else, he was a man ahead of his time, for the internet was years away when he told that jewel.
The Royale is a very special gun alright, it is probably no more accurate than a good AA S410, but every thing else is different as you probably know.
I really like that Leupold scope and reticle tho.

My first elk took 11 shots with a 7mmRemM, including the finisher in the neck.
A pair of spikes feeding in a strong wind in my face, maybe 250 yards below me in a saddle.
They did not move for 2 reloading sessions, other than the odd look at each other when I shot. Then I finally noticed the brown spot in the snow just above the one I had been shooting at.
I still hit high with the 10th shot, but broke its back.
I tried to tell my Dad I shot twice, but the wind was blowing right towards camp and he busted my tale. LOL
My last elk the .340 Weatherby only took 1 shot just under 300 yards. I hit high again thru the top of his lungs.
This time Dad knew I had 1 box of rounds, and I returned with 19. 😉

Have you ever wathced the TV hunting show Relentless Pursuit? He knocks a bee out of the air with a compound bow.
Years ago my son shot at some elk at about 400 yards, he emptied his gun and had no hits. When I found him he was walking down the trail towards the house dejected and depressed, I asked him if it was he who fired all of the shots.
He ansewered that he was a discrace to the family, I asked him why and he told me the story about shooting 11 times and missing everytime.
I asked him why he thought that made him a discrace and he replied that I had never missed an elk.
I just smiled and told him I just never came home and admitted it. 😎

That scope is so incredable. It has 116 minutes of adjustment. I put a couple of shims on the rear ring and with a 100 yard zero I still have 34 inches of adjustment left, I could add more shims and double that easily.
Questions is how far are you going to shoot a 33 FPE pellet gu?.
Now on the Ranger 45 with that scope I think you could make 550 yards maybe 600 yards with the right rings and bases.
Having spent a good part of my life on my ass behind cross sticks pulling the trigger on various Sharps rifles, sending 550 grain 45 caliber bullets at very long range, the combination sounds interesting.
