Who makes a good regulator for a .22 caliber AA S510?

Is it worth the effort?

Curious whether my S510 would still get 30 FPE, or close, and increase shot count.

Hoot..After your review let me know about Altaros firing chamber size either at diameter and length…

The gun is perfectly tuned when the air from the firing chamber expends all of its energy (to the extent that is practical) just as the pellet reaches the end of the barrel.
The output of a regulated airgun is affected by both the pressure inside the firing chamber and the volume of the firing chamber.
However the firing chambers of the most regulators are usually be smaller than should be.
In this case, the entire firing chamber fits in a small compartment inside the air tube, and it had to take steps to reduce the chamber volume so the gun wouldn’t be too powerful if that space isn,t enough.

Actually the pellet must “pushed” constantly during it travels inside the barrel and this pressure must follow it to the end,and not only in the middle of its total movement,in the inner of the gun.

So what i did,before installing a regulator is,to calculate the volumetric internal space of the guns barrel and transfer port too.
To do this we have to imagine the Barrels air pocket like a cylinder.
For example a .22 barrel with 20′ length must be about 0.76inΒ³ according the V=Ο€r2 X h formula.
If this is the whole regulators air capacity,the 150 bar(example) regulated pressure will exist only at the beginning of extraction because after the first air loose,the rest half air is still once in a while inside the firing chamber as already dropped at 100bar after air release and finally doesn’t help the pellet flying overpass entirely until barrel edge separation while the same time the slowest regulator try vainly to recover the air was spent.

To avoid this..it is necessary calculate x2(at least) the barrels and transfer ports volume and put a firing chamber with that capacity at our regulator…..The more volume we have,then more the air elasticity there is…so a better efficiency is achieved.

I know some people complain with that way, because they think that their count will be decreased but this is not true.
In reality an air volume is lost to make room for the regulator inside the air tank but the tradeoff for that lost space is more shots, because the reg lets the firing valve operate on a lower air pressure.
Many users regarding the larger firing chamber try a 210-230 filling because they think in that way increase their autonomy….Wrong!!!
..The result is a broken regulator while the the regulators spring can’t hold the further air pressure while they are made for less.

After all i agree that Altaros makes controlled function but i doubt about keep the velocity at original standards…and for a long range shooter like me ….POWER MATTERS AFTER ACCURACY!!!!

The newest video he posted does not show him removing the pressure gauge and undoing a grub screw. Rather it shows him pulling out the pot, putting in a washer, a rod with a threaded end, and his regulator screwing onto that rod.

Anyone understand that change????

It seems to confict with Killerqueen’s post. I wonder if AA changed their pot design?

At any rate, Alteros makes a specific point to view the new, improved, installation video.

Are you talking about an upgrade which initially based on an experiment?
Not at the goal yet?…

As an idea i like a lot Altaros regulator but it seems that is harder to execute on the S510 and many people complain about that.
Altaros replaces the stock firing pot. The stock firing pot on the 510 is not sealed at the valve block and basically held with a grub screw. The altaros requires the regulator to be sealed to the block via an o-ring and stock grub screw. This is the weak link. His other regulators for other applications screw on and sealing isn’t an issue,so the same results came like those before regulated.
Also after people experiences,it takes about 3 shots to get on the regulator,so an amount of shots at the beginning aren’t regulated and some of the air quantity must spend away from the target if want to keep the balance/accuracy from the first shot.
I know others have been frustrated by the altaros on the 510 right out of the box and seems that the solution is to tuned the gun.
However many others avoid do something like this because wouldn’t want to destroy their gun in this kind of undertaking and try to keep it as it was.
Anyway i am the first on the net (you can search my old post)who tried present his regulators at his first attempts before promotes them to the massly production,when nobody knows about them,but then it had not been tried yet and seems like a revolution according the old type of regulators.
Personally i will keep waiting without lack of Self-Confidence until Altaros guarantee a result without a mental trauma experienced like the power decrease after regulators fitting .

this is the Pekator Regulator i described to my precedent post.

You can see clearly the “golden” point(regulator) with the tube from the one side and chamber(coming with regulator) to the other side.
The vent is on the part you can see below and let the air on atmosphere…this is the substance….to exhaust the air which incoming inside regulator valve instead some regulators which remove the air inside to a full of high pressure tube and resists the important export in order to a fast outlet that in our case means… “Speed” and “autonomy”….this is my opinion
Off course the negative side is the increase of tube length after the chamber addition,while the volume remain unaffected.
Finally you can accept it that way,or get a smaller tube if you want the original size.

I will more then likely get a Altaros reg for 1 of my Airforce guns, he wrote me and said in a couple weeks, he maybe making them again. Something about school tests.

I have an audrius reg installed in my S410 Xtra FAC .22cal, go into my profile and search my old posts on it you’ll love the numbers.

Yes 30ft/lb can be had but only about 30 shots but the ES and SD is in the single digits, I love it! I have mine set for 27ft/lb… 16gr @ 880fps. I get around 50 shot.

If I had to do it again… I wouldn’t bother and leave it as is, bone stock.

On the other hand, I like to tinker around and from that I’ve learn’t lot about my rifle and how things work.

LOL…. I’ve taking apart my S410 so many times I can now take it apart with my eyes closed and in under 2 mins…. the part that takes time is draining the air.

Actually there are many regulator manufacturers out there but as Eddieirvine said ..”I would love for someone to tell me they have one that is reg that shoots 900 fps with a 50 shot count!”
So in my opinion if a vent drilling or performance reduction instead a sweet spot of power curve bother you,then you will need a “tench” type regulator like this

These regulators do not need a vent for aeration,because they are fitted on a small chamber which constitutes the extension of your stock cylinder while is screwed on the male threated side of regulator.The female threated side fits directly to the chassis.
The hole is already be done so you don’t have to worry about your filling tank integrity.
Also they can bring excellent results as below…
Other similar regulators are the Pekators or Ev2 ones, accompanied by a modification in order fit at S510(a friend of mine accomplished it).

The only reason he said to set it @ 140Bar is so it doesn’t waste too much air, that way there’s more pressure against the valve, but what I did was set mine @120Bar and add a little stronger spring behind the valve so it seals faster.

Also you might want to ask him to make a small chamber extension for the regulated air.

On the Air Range I fill through the regulator itself, and therefore I need to fire 2 or 3 shots to clear it after each fill. on your gun that won’t be the case & it should be consistent from 1st shot.

And I can guarantee you will easily get 40fpe if needed by setting it a little higher.

The only problem that I couldn’t figure out & did put too much time in, is that it eats shot count on my Ranger.

So instead of getting say about 50 shots without a regulator I’m only getting about 30 with it @ the same fill pressure but that might be the case cause mine is especially configured to work by filling through it.

PS: Please send me an ambi Air Ranger in .22 caliber. One of your older used ones will do nicely. Thanking you in advance, I remain….slightly insane.

I have at least 4 of these regulators & they work great & I assure you that you won’t need it set that high to get 26fpe & also I’m sure you can get it all the way to 35fpe if needed.

I have one on the Air Ranger .25 and it’s set at only 120Bar & shooting 25 JSB at 900 FPS.

Altos wrote me and indicated that at about 140 bar (2000 fps) you would get about 860 fps and around 40 shots. That would give you 26 FPE with a straight fps curve.

The shot count is definitely related to pressure tube capacity, and I’m assuming his AA older model has the same size tube as the new S510???

The installation is stupid simple and I’m tempted to lose the 4 FPE to get the accuracy upgrade. The price isn’t too bad really.

There’s no way the AA S510 is going to get 50 shots, even with the Classic tube now being installed.

Bog…it appears that 30 FPE is at the peak of the bell curve, up in the lower 900 fps range, then gradually drops to around 24 to 25 FPE back in the 860 range. Yet, even with that rainbow FPE curve, no one has ever complained about accuracy in that rifle!

Bogman you are right on with the AA rifle they are great! I will never downgrade them but they do need to get something going with there gun in order to get a good fpe and most of all shot count needs to be 40 or 50 then this would be one of the best guns on the market! I don’t know if a regulator will get it there without lossing speed or not but I would love for someone to tell me they have one that is reg that shoots 900 fps with a 50 shot count!

I’ve been shooting JSB 15.9 out of my s510 extra fac. Seems to be most accurate chopping off the bell curve by filling to about 180 bar. Then, for about twenty (+?) shots, it’s damn accurate.

Would love to hear if the regulator helps. What is a 15.9gr traveling at to get 30fpe (too tired for math)? If it’s too fast, losing a little energy isn’t a problem. I.E. is that 30fpe at the beginning of the bell curve anyway?

Lately, with a rice bag up front, shouldered at 40 yds, there’s usually a hole-in-hole every 1-3 groups. Not sure I’d be worthy of greater accuracy without the proper sedatives :11: or giving up coffee…nope

Hoot, you still like/got info on those chronys for $60?
