Nice RC! Liking the FX’s???
What I like about my Royale 400 is the ease of field shooting.
I was out this morning double checking my range settings on the Leupold with the Hollands reticle but doing it from field positions using grape poles to shoot on my painted metal target.
I was shooting three shot groups aiming at the top of the target so I could see my drop at 80 90 94 and 100 yards. I would just let them drop into a group and then superinpose the reticle over the group and get instant drop info by just looking at the MOA number the groups were on.
Tee best group ws at 100 yards, standing with the rilfe rested in my hands and the forearm hand resting against the 4 inch grape pole. It was under 1.5 inches. but most had two shots under an inch.
Now that computes to a very dead squirrel or starling at80 to 100 yards from a field postion.
I could never do that with a stock Condor or stock Talon, and it all for me, is the comfort and ease of shooting, meaning the scope postion, the trigger and how it all comes together.
Now with a Condor, you can get close, buy a angled tank adapter, not the AF abortion which solves nothing in this regard, lower you scope with medium rings and you will be close.
The Royales 400 and 500 use the same stock, and reciever, so it will be a easy transiton between guns for me, I just wish I had a another Leupold on it instead of that Hawke.

They are one very fine rifle without question
Have had little chance to run my 500 much since I bought it this winter
swapped it into the Coroccan stock and ordered 3 spare mags from A0A
It is a very long rifle but shoulders well for me
it is reasonably quiet

Looking forward to seeing the potential of the FX500, and getting your feedback on how you like it compared to the FX400.

Those magazines are not the same,ie just bigger with fewer holes, I have read on the yellow about others who had issues with them and they say they do not repsond to the mod due to the design differences.
If you think that single shot tray is rough on the 25 give the 22 a try.
The mod I did on the 400 mag was pretty easy, there is a post on the Yellow about how to take it apart and put it bak together.
One of the problems with the 400 magazine, is that it is used on both the 400 and the Monsson, and as is a usall problem with dula purpose things, it suffers in at least one of the dual functions in that it is wound too tight for the Royale and that damages pellets with it as it indexes. I think the Monsoons have 4 revolutions on the spring, I set my Royal at 1 or 2. It made a big difference.
Another mod you can do on the Royale 400 is shortiening it by 1.5 inches. The shroud you will notice has a gap on the underside where it clears the tank, the 500 does not have this gap. You can set it back to the tank like the 500 is postitoned
So what you do is you remove the bottle, put tape on your barrel to indicate where the shroud was and where it needs to be, heat the shroud up until the expoxy breaks loose, and the tube can be rotatied off.
That exposes the set screw on the ferrel at the breech end of the shroud. You can then loosen the set srew, slide the ferrel back to your reference mark and retighten it, reheat the shroud and ferrel to rejuvenate the epoxiy. Also at the same time you should take off and drill the spacer like a AirForce bushing mod, that is inside the shroud to take advatnage of the volume and then move it back a inch and a half.
In the end you have a Royale 400 that may or may not be a little bit louder but 1.5 inches shorter.

RC, I’ve not seen the 400 magazine close up, so can’t say. Knowing some of your leanings, it’s just a matter of time before you take the 500 mag apart and improve it! From your description of the 400, it sounds similar. How is the 400 spring positioned? I.E. how does one take the mag apart and not have to look all over the house for parts and try to figure out how it goes back together?
You know, it’s that spring-under-tension-apprehension. I should get a spare mag. so taking one apart doesn’t create a stressful potential, especially if I screw up… “I hear parts landing, but I don’t know how many and where. Ahhh..but there is a functioning mag. at hand.” enter sigh of relief. On the 400, did you modify the spring itself or just adjust its position?(E.G. reduce the amount of “resting” tension on the thing.)
It’d be nice to have a schematic, at least to know what parts to be looking for while shining a flashlight under the fridge and crawling on the floor!
Belling the mag grooves/holes sounds like dremel work, perhaps best done with the thing apart to keep the plastic bits out. Looks like marking the black chambers, where tight, can be done w/ a pencil using the clear cover hole as the guide. Only looks like a mm or 2. Seems best to lighten the spring load before grinding.

I’m having trouble finding live specimens after spraying my house last fall-the ground around the house was mulched with them…solid! Sounded like rain as they died by the thousands. Anyone suffering from these bastards, PM me for DIY control info.

Bogman, is the magazine just a bigger Royale 400 Mag? That one I took apart and belled out the holes and took tension off the spirng.

I just got it tonight before going to dinner.
I put the VXIII on it and sighted it in in 4 shots at 40 yards, and then put it over the chrony.
I was not really trying for groups, but EVERYTHING was going into 1/2 or less! The first 5 over the box were running in the 872FPS to 873 range, and it was like it was regulated they were so close.
I want a little more power, in the 915 to 920FPS range so I turned the power spring nut 1/2 turn, then shot another 5 shot group, and again it was well under a 1/2 inch, the chrony read 975 to 995 FPS, amazing power, but way too much for what I am looking for, I backed it down to 1/4 turn from the 872 setting, but had to leave, so I did not get to chrony it, but I will be working with it most of tomorrow. Terrible weather here so it will be 40 yards.
First impressions, the Royale 400 is like a carbine, and you can set the LDC back another 1 1/2 inch to really shorten it.
The Royale 500 certainly is no carbine, it is as long as some shrouded Condors. Trigger on this one is far heavier than what I have the 400 set at, but tomorrow will see that change. The Kings fit snug in the magazine. The singleshot adapter appears to be the carved stone type or just hard black plastic, I will heat a needle tomorrow and stick the bottom side to see like you do to test ivory grips.
