Rem 700
Well, my birthday is around the corner, June.
Ha, Turners Outdoors has a sale on a Rem 700 in .308
$649.00, well Mrs SAW stepped up and put $500.00 deposit on it today
Being in CA I gotta wait 10 days 😥 😥 😥
I have a Rem 700 SPS already in .223, and that thing is a absolute tack driver, hope the .308 does the same, looks as if the Viper scope is gonna have to come off my Talon .25 😥 😥
My 223 can hit 1/2# exploder targets all day long at 300 yards
hope the 308 can reach out a bit further
anyone here have any recommends on ammo 308 wise ?

My .340 WBY is a fibermark and is the only rifle to ever give me a 3rd eyebrow.
I was shooting off the bench, sun a bit in my face so I lowered my ball cap just a bit too low…
The bill of the cap got behind the eyepeice of the scope, and it felt like I was clobbered across the forehead with a sheet of plywood.
Everything turned red and then black, stars…
The ball cap had two slots cut into the bill from the scope. My forehead had the skin scraped off all the way across.
Fuckin hurt.

It was a heck of a gun. My cousin had to get stitches from mine. Not sure what exactly he did, but he was laying prone and shot, next thing he comes up to the truck and asks, “did it hit me” while his head was pouring blood. Accurate thing though, and the one deer I killed with it extremely died. Yeah, extremely died, as in more than normal. Bullet was going to fast at that range and fragmented, causing damage to everything.

No I had a Remington Sendero in 300 Ultra before there was even reloading info for it.
So I winged it on the data, I used to load 200 grain Nosers to 3200 FPS, I made the longest shot on a coyote in my career with that gun. 732 yards lasered 2 out of 3 hits.
Splendedly accurate but what a beast to hold next to your head when yu shot it.

Roach, it wasn’t you I sold my ultra mag to was it? I was trying to remember recently who bought that, couldn’t for the life of me.
The ultra mag is definitely an extreme sort of recoil. So sharp it’s insane.
Anyway, rifle looks great! I love that stock. Post a range report when you shoot it!
I have had 700’s in 300 win mag and 300 ultra mag, now that is recoil. but the real recoil king was a custom 700 I built with a douglas barrel that was a pencil contour that weighed 6.25 lbs with a 2×7 Leupold scope, in 340 Weatherby, now folks that is real recoil when you push a 250 at 2900 FPS.
But my god it would put the elk down.

Nice looking rigs Saw. Yeah, you will not have any problems hitting things with the 308 at all. Find the right load combo and anything in the crosshairs will die, fall, explode, splat, or whatever.

Was up in LHC last weekend and my 223 700 performed as usual
basically hit everything I wanted, hope the 308 can do as well

Wow looks almost like mine accept the crown,, If you’re hitting 1/2″ groups at 300 yards, don’t worry about relaoding 😀 That Ammo is doing just fine . My Corseair will hit the same hole at 73 yards with my Fishing Buddy shooting it, but of corse he is a professional shooter, I’m the best at Fishing 😀 I would have never believed it would do that, that’s why when I post a comment on here I always say with me shooting it. I use a shaky table and a Bipod, not much chance of outshooting a clamp down vice rest LOLOL. I saw a camera on here where a guy was shooting and reloading his bolt action and the gun was clamped down and didn’t move even on the reload. Now that was a steady clamp down device he had. 😀

The trigger on my 223 isn’t that bad, they started using
x-mark trigger group, it’s no Timiney but you can if not mistaken
get it down to 3# pull externally
I adjusted mine right out of the box
I am gonna go with my Viper scope for now, not a bad scope
like my Nikko it is a bit more work to get a sight picture, but hey laying
on a mat and shooting off a bi pod it is not too bad
Someday, better glass 500 – 700 $$$$ range

EBAY has 3 of the scops like I have on my 308 made for the 308, just go into sporting goods and type in springfield Armory. They are expensive but they have a recor hit and are no longer made.

How serious are you looking to get with the scope? I can recommend some stuff, but a price range helps with that. 😉
I like the 700, but I’m not sure if I will own one again. I had my fun with my .300rum. One thing I will say is the trigger HAS to be either replaced or worked on, the stock trigger is horrible. Other than that it’s a nice gun. The best thing about them is you can work on them, if you don’t like something, every piece can be replaced or tuned to your liking. Very versatile, kind of like some other guns we know around here. 😀
Oh OK, you have the bull barrel version. No sir, mine was the sporter barrel all black with synthetic stock. The sporter barrel was thin. Maybe 1/2″-9-16″ maybe. Despite the barrel thickness, the gun was a tackdriver as long as you kept the shots spread out.
I had the MUELLER Tactical 4-16x50mm on mine. Mueller and Swift are SLEEPER SCOPES and have been for some years now. I prefer the Mueller over the Swift. That same Mueller now resides on my Tikka T3. Never a problem with that scope.

Back to the first question, I found that 168gr Black Hills shoots extremely well from my DPMS Panther. 1 MOA @ 100 yrds .Very consistant but about 32-33 bucks a box of 20. Hornady 168 gr Match AMAX shot almost as good at about 30 per box.
I shot the 175 gr Hornanys and the primers blew out of them , Im working that out right now with them.
Now to be fair , your bolt action rifle shoud shoot tighter than my semi auto. ( mine holds it own for what it is )So maybe other ammo may shoot better for you in your rifle.
I found that the Federal sierra math kings 168 175 gr .were OK , not great.
the white box federal 150 gr . were fun plinkers
PMC were fun plinkers
Mil surplus was junk . for accuracy that is . they were made to be shot in bulk by machine guns , 😀
So if you want to see what your rifle can do buy a few AMAX or Black hills .
In order for me to shoot 1 MOA I need 12x or 14x power on my scope.
I cant seem to do it well with a 9x 10 x scope. Just cant see the target that well .
So make sure you have a decent scope on your rifle if your going to spend the bucks on good ammo
