I know it’s odd, but I was thinking.
How about a multi shoot Condor type set up?
I have thought long and hard on how to do that and the current excepted method of firing the thing (ie spring & hammer) has been getting in the way.
How do you get another lead thingy in there with all that motion.
With out all that motion the solution seem more straight forward. Then how to get rid of all that motion.
Here comes the thinking part, do not use a spring and hammer.
Use a electric solenoid. Put it in the tank with the valve seat and open the valve with the motion of the solenoid. That could mean no motion outside the tank, only the mechanism to load the lead thingy.
Then one could use a rotary magazine to hold the lead thingies and the operation would be as follows.
1. Load magazine.
2. Index lead thingy into alignment with bore of barrel.
3. Hit switch (trigger) to power (open valve seat) solenoid.
4. Rotate magazine so another lead thingy is lined up with bore.
5. Repeat until all lead thingies in the magazine are gone.
6. Repeat, etc. etc.
Rotating the magazine is the only thing that would move, no more cocking the hammer, no more hammer bounce, etc.
Since one would use a Capacitor discharge circuit to control the solenoid, then one could change the open time of the solenoid/valve seat to change power output.
As soon as I can figure out a Capacitor discharge circuit the rest would be mainly machining and hand winding a coil for the solenoid.

We appreciate new ideas & new directions. I think most if not all of us realize that our hobby is at a fantastic place. Technology and ingenuity are enabling advances in accuracy and performance. Although the AF rifle platform may not be the best out there, it does make for a fantastic test-bed for new ideas. Thanks for offering to share yours.

You get something like that, by thinking it out, working out the issues and making it yourself.
It appears that we need a new forum, one that is titled “make it yourself/new ideas”, not mods that you buy from someone and bolt on or a person that threads (machinist) something and calls that a part make by a machinist.
There used to be people on this forum that made things from scratch on this forum, more than just band sawing, drilling a couple holes, tapping a hole or two and calling it shop made.
Been awhile since I read anything that was truly a new idea. Guess the makers are making ( not posting ) and the rest are talking about it.
So much for innovation.

My statement was not “I wonder where I can buy such a thing”, but I wonder were such a solenoid could be gotten to work on such an implementation.

BTW, I have been working on a project. And it’s actively being tested in various forms to see if it works at all, and then if it’s useable to others. So I AM making things for the system. I just am smart enough not to post info about them here because someone will always shit on your work or idea, because that’s what they do.
Think of what could be accomplished with cooperation on these items.

Dude, nobody is telling you not to develop an awesome semi mod for these guns, god knows we all want one!
My design uses an air operated valve rated for 6kpsi. One of the problems with it is that is doesn’t open as fast as I’d like, meaning I’m going to have to buy some time for that pellet to pick up speed (longer barrel), hence my shifting gears into a bullpup design.
(Either that or feed it 4500psi directly, but thats another convo. 😈 )
Rigging a solenoid to activate a valve isn’t hard but you’d have to design and test your own from scratch (awesome), plus you’d most likely have to put a 90 degree kink in the air flow, something I’m actively trying to avoid.
Anyway, please go for it and post your findings and progress, I could use the company.

“New ideas”…. Show me his new ideas, ones that haven’t been in effect for many years in other places or on similar machines?
2. I removed the fuse block and replaced with a resettable breaker.
3. I installed a cooling fan.
4. I made and installed aluminum cooling heat sinks to the cylinders. These I home anodized.
5. I removed the toggle on/off switch and replaced with two push buttons (ON/OFF) and a latching relay.
6. I replaced most of the bushing with ball bearings.
7. I have a timing belt drive system on order to replace the chain drive supplied. This will me a test, to see if it holds up.
8. I replaced the cover screws with captive thumb screws, no tools required to remove the safety cover.
#1, most if not ALL scuba compressors use this idea. Did he buy this or actually make it from scratch?
#2, ever see a circuit breaker in an electrical panel? Most old houses has fuses… Again is this bought and added or did he make it from scratch?
#3, cooling fan on something that gets hot… Speaks for itself, again, did he make the WHOLE fan and motor from scratch or did he buy it and add it?
#4, well there is something that may actually be made by him, but lathing something isn’t that big of a deal, glorified drilling and sawing really. Home anodized is pretty cool but still not really a new idea…
#5, didn’t make any of it, remove and replace, big whoop. If I put an aftermarket carb on an engine did I actually MAKE anything? Nope. Did he make the relay, nope…
#6 bushings with ball bearings, again probably didn’t make the bearings.
#7 again, remove and replace, did he make the pulleys and the belt? Possibly the pulleys, I would bet the belt was purchased.
#8, replacing screws with quick release parts. I’ll wager once again that there were NOT made from scratch.
So of the 8 things he did to the Shoebox one or two actually comply with his “built from scratch” dig on the forum. Shit there is hardly any drilling or threading in his mods… Most of the parts were bought from stores, even worse than his dig on having a machinist make your part.
“New ideas”, “Innovation”, “not bolt on mods”. Let’s see it then, he shows a copy of an AF designed rifle (patented I might add) and the Shoebox stuff is mostly a bunch bolt on mods…

Roy in his post about his build gives credit to all on TAG that he harvested ideas from. So that is cool. AND noone means to take away from his skills as he definitely has that in spades.
I am but saying perhaps we let Roy speak for himself.

I got the Showbox before the Ranger so I would imagine his post on those improvements were around the spring of 2011.

Like I said, I am going by memory.
However, I saw his post while I was waiting for or just after I got my Shoebox, and I got on the list pretty early, I think I was #44 on the list and got the Shoebox in November of 2010.
He had posted pictures and he also was posting on the Shoebox site at the time.
I research thing prettly well before ordering and while waiting, his was the first I had heard or seen of those three improvements.
I do wish I had the auto shut off on mine.
And to me someone who makes a 308 Condor type rifle from scratch is not a rowboat admiral.
Whether the AF design could ever be made into a magazine fed rifle, or whether the design even merrits it remains to be seen.

Again I am going by memory and mine is not the best, but I believe he made the entire 308, frame and all on his own.
I also think he was the first or at least the first I saw that put internal fans, finned cylinders and a pressure switch shutoff on the Shoebox, which is now factory options for the Shoebox.
Just saying he has done more than talk in the past.

Shoe box
Let me start by saying, what I have done to my Shoebox are things I wanted to change, not things that needed to be changed. My Shoebox worked great out of the box. I just can not leave anything stock, just me.

Members of the TAG can speak their minds. We treat this place kinda like clubhouse and who wants a third party person sticking their nose into a conversation and scolding and reminding people to play nice?
In the non cyberworld when another man says something, to a person, does he look around and wait for a moderator to come over and moderate their conversation? No of course not
So why should we do it here?
If a person is being racist, trolling or threatening violence etc. we will step in and cut them off.
Otherwise members need to take a deep breath and handle their own conversations.

I love the guys who post questions (veiled as brainstorming) on how to do something, then when they get a few answers not to their satisfaction they dismiss everyone for not being creative.
