got my stubby extreme today
.25 with shroud, Randy’s extreme valve, heavy hammer, spin loc and short maddog stock, very comfortable to shoot, 7 1/2 pounds with a scope, and shoots kodiaks at 940 FPS for 57 FPE. 🙂
fps dropped about 3fps per shot, pretty consistent drop from a 3,000 fill, didnt do enough testing to see where it would drop off, went down to about 2400 in my short test before dark.
if the rain holds off tomorrow, i’ll do some trigger time on targets at 50 yards with an assortmrnt of pellets to check for accuracy, but a rough sight in on a 10″ steel plate at 50 yards looked very promising.

I wish they would have used tool steel for the trigger with set screws installed
and for the safety they could have used a lever or bar directly under the release latch to keep it from moving instead of the dumb contraption they chose.

Wok is correct about the trigger.
My problem is the unmodified OEM trigger. Once a bit of adjustment, and a few genuine Wok magic trigger parts are added, it becomes a fine piece of work. I especially appreciated the oversized trigger shoe Wok made for my stubby fingers. That alone worked miracles for me.
I guess what upsets me is AF could have made it an excellent trigger to begin with. They could have made a reliable safety too, for pennies more in cost. But they didn’t. I’m curious about their two new products coming up. Perhaps they might do it right this time.
Thank god we have good people righting their wrongs. Otherwise, a lot of people wouldn’t get to enjoy the simplicity of the AF products.
Sometimes I can get a bit negative. Comes with old age. Plus the fact that I moved 25 tons of Ouichita gravel this weekend using a “Kanga” power shovel. Beat the living hell out of me for twelve hours. Still, it beat using a hand shovel and wheelbarrow.

The AF trigger for me has been pretty good for a hunting rifle. Doing the trigger mod made it very nice and I have no complaints at all with it. And with the aluminum trigger shoe I make it really feels good to me.
Some like a “Match” type trigger on their hunting guns. I don’t, hiking and climbing hills while hunting and a trigger that releases with a a few ounces do not go together for me.
This is something I’ve never been sure of.

I don’t know about Tony’s valve. Particularly whether he includes a valve removal tool. That tool is a must have, in my opinion, because the valve is next to impossible to get off without it. Clock on the Talon Tunes banner above and drop him a question.
All of the other parts can be replaced with a good range of hex wrenches and small screw drivers. An exploded view of the AF rifle you own will help a lot, especially the trigger and safety mechanism modification.
The AF has a shit trigger and a shittier safety. Most folk remove the safety and toss it, as it is unreliable and dangerous. The trigger is ok, some would say fully sufficient, I never replaced mine, but there are adjustable, crisper, triggers out there.
The AF guns shine in one respect, they are extremely friendly to modification. Post an inquiry in the “Shrouds and Moderators” section and I bet you can score an effective core for that shroud.
Have fun and don’t shoot off a nut. With a decent scope, even the 12″ barrel is wicked accurate.

Randy sends a tool to replace the old valve with the new one. It’s literally unscrew the old one and screw the new on in. No adjustments.
What do you gain….virtual shitloads of power!!! And, short of Anthony’s cadillac version, polished, tuned, maxed out, but a bit costly, it is the poor man’s power valve.
If you have cash, I’d go with Anthony’s at TT Tunes. The quality and looks are superb. The R & L valve isn’t pretty, but it works perfectly.

PS: No doubt, the best mod I ever made on my Talon SS, other than the 14″ barrel.
I have a 14 in. barrel, and have been waiting for GTBJ to get done fighting fires or gone all the time to make a shroud for it, I want an insert plus 5in. extended and the same size as gun. I don’t know of anyone else who would do this for me for a reasonable price, hint hint, I love these guns and just want 1 mini blaster, good luck on your new stubby, they are very nice looking and powerful.

I’d go 15″ to 16″ max on the barrel. It’s amazing what that two or three inches can do and still keep the Stubby a Stubby.
The Extreme valve is a mystery. I took it apart, took pictures of it and no one could see what was changed, but it was changed somehow.
The power wheel and a chrony are going to be your best friends in determining what setting you want to use to balance power vs. shot count.

The 12″ barrel is ok. I had Jim Gaska, Marmot_Militia cut an LW 14″ barrel for it and the power became almost frightening.
The Extreme Valve is a miracle of power.
The shroud can be improved with a one piece insert.
I’m in the process of building my own shroud for it, and I was going to order a LW barrel from Jim, was thinking of the 18″, but you like the 14″? I’d like to keep it as short as possible.
I’ll look into those bullets,
