Why Hunt?
Firstly let me say, the intention of the post is pure curiosity and nothing more.
I see a lot of videos of people shooting “yote”, ground hogs racoon’s and other similar animals and I’m just curious as to why?
As I don’t have these animals around where I live I don’t know the nuisance they pose so have no real appreciation. I personally would only kill what I intended to eat or as mentioned if it was a nuisance to me.
One of my dreams is to one day hunt and kill a Big buck and to share and enjoy the meat that animal will provide but I couldn’t ever shoot an animal with no intention, that just me!
So anyways Id love too hear your opinions on the topic and also any cool hunting story’s would be awesome!

I shoot pigeon and I eat what I shoot, Given the opportunity I would love to take bigger game but I haven’t yet and the chance or pleasure. I have been brushing up on my Archery lately and that is something that really interest me. There’s something about bow hunting that really appeals to me but as the UK law dictates. Its illigal!!! Oh how I love the country :L

The S word??? OK, I’ll bite…what is the S word?
The last snake I shot/killed was a mojave green rattle snake that was next to my front door. I eliminate those snakes on sight because they are dangerous; they possess a venom that attacks both flesh and the nervous system. The others, gopher, king, etc. are fine with me, but I do not judge others who who put the brakes on snakes regardless of species.
Snakes, I do not shoot him because they kill and eat the damn mice that my bird feeders attract.
I am loath to mention the “S” word so early in my forum career but when you have been one and come up against some pretty devious foe,then taking pot shots at animals,pales into insignificance.
Why hunt? The smile on this lady’s face says it all! :thumb:

If you’ve never hunted then you must. Society has squashed that skill because some people find it distasteful.
If you do choose to hunt, do it humanely, and follow the law.
Personally I like dove hunting because it is so damn hard and the doves have an enormous advantage. Especially with my shotgun skills 🙂
Pigeons, starlings and English sparrows are invasive species and out compete native song birds. The are pests and need to be thinned out to better protect native species.
Simple answer, because I live in America.
Why hunt deer? Venison is good eating.
Why hunt wild hogs? Same as above.
Why hunt squirrels? Good eating and to stop the damn things from destroying my bird feeders.
Why hunt raccoons? To stop the damn things from destroying my bird feeders.

I have never “come up against some pretty devious foe” until 2 weeks ago. I was setting up my 25 yard outdoor range and while I was inside getting more stuff, I happened to look thru my kitchen window and I noticed a squirrel out in my back yard. As I walked out to my bench rest, the “devious foe” was checking out my setup. I guess that I must have scared him; he did a 360 turn, took a couple of steps and then jumped up and tried to bite me below the left knee!
When he fell down; I got a 20 yard punt on him with my right foot. I have been watching for him and if he ever shows up again. I will (S) him!
I don’t know if what I do is called “hunting”. I do my best to bait squirrels, raccoons, opossums, starlings and sparrows to my bait area. I will gladly shoot any of them just to rid the neighborhood of the pests.
My other “hunting” consists of a grain elevator and two farmers that have asked me to come out and alleviate their pest problems. The grain elevator pests are mainly starlings and pigeons. The grain elevator also has a butt load of doves and the grain elevator manager wants me to shoot them also but, I can’t legally do that. Both farmers have troubles with ground squirrels. I don’t like to take anything under 70 yard shots; I feel that anything closer than that is cheating.
I try to do head shots. I really like to connect with a head shot at 100-125 yards! The way that I currently have my gun and tri pod setup, if I miss, it is my fault.
It might not be what all of you call hunting but; it is extremely gratifying to me when I connect at 125 yards!
Must be my “ugly American” blood lust coming out!
