Silicone oil for sizing and shooting cast bullets
Before I firelapped my Haley I needed to clean every 20 shots to keep the accuracy at top level.
Then I firelapped and I got to where I could go 30 shots before I really needed to clean.
I have shot several thousand air gun cast bullets now without lube, with ATF, Lee Allox, Spray Moly, BreakFree and Imperial Sizing wax.
Last week John Bowman had mentioned to me that I should try Silicone oil. I had a can of sray silicone oil left over from a leather seal making project gathering dust on the window sill.
I shot this group at 212 yards, my personal best, after putting about 35 shots on the steel today, but I have 150 shots on this cleaning so far and the barrel looks like it did after shot #2, with just a hint of grey on the lands.
I seem to have it sighted in also.
I also used a bipod with the swivel locked to level. I have gotten a lot of 5 shot groups that had 4 shots in .90 to 2.0 and a flyer. Today I got 5 in a row using the bipod with the weak hand on the trigger guard.
Interesting enough, holding the forearm with weak hand gave me latteral stringing, but I had a wind so I need to retry that. Holding onto a bipod leg, put my group in the direction of the leg I was holding. But holding onto the triggerguard and pulling back with my weak hand seemed to work best.

I ordered some Silcone lube that is used for the RC trucks shocks. Mine is a little heavy but it works, it is 50W.

Yeah, a buddy of mine checked at a hobby shop and said there are many different weights of that oil so I wonder if it will make a difference with bullets?

I have tried just about everything known, but thanks. I research thing a lot, and have taken everything but the newest meds, simply because the side effects are too dangerous for me.
Thanks Andy, tomorrows pushup workout will give me 10,000+ pushups for the month of December and January. I had 5,200 for the month of December and wanted to break 6000 for January, but I had a cold and a sore shoulder that made me skip two workout sessions.

RC, after dealing with migraines for years, you may have tried this, but maybe not. Feverfew, Tanacetum parthenium or Chrysanthemum parthenium has a long history of migraine prevention. Thomas Jefferson used it. It also would possibly fit into your grow-things/garden lifestyle. The usual method is to eat one leaf daily, in a sandwich or mixed in food. The best time to harvest is right before flowering. It’s easy to grow; I grew a lot of it when I worked at Monticello.
The exact actions, pharmacology are unknown. Tinctures in vodka are often used to preserve the herb as drying seems to affect its effectiveness. Also, it may take 1-3 weeks before the preventative effect kicks in. Repeating dosage within 24 hours is not recommended, especially with the tincture (usually mixed with water). Tastes a bit bitter. Shungiku, the edible garland chrysanthemum of Japan may also have effects, being closely related.
As with anything new, you’ll need to watch how your body reacts. There are certain “normal” foods my brother and I can’t eat, at least in company. So, there are person-specific intolerances. In general, these herbal things are fairly mild, unless you’re nuts and mess around with digitalis, and other deadly plants. (The Laplanders supposedly used Wolfbane, Aconitum lycoctonum, mixed with milk to kill wolves…yikes!)

Wow! you aren’t doing too bad if you are doing over 600 push ups in less than an hour and you are over 60 . That is quite a feat- not many folks can say that. I had an open skull fracture when I was 18 years old. Had 2 years of recurrent migraines and somehow a miracle occurred and they went away. There was nothing that worked for them for me, just sitting down on the spot ,no matter where I was at and meditating. Today I have patients in clinic that have migraines and doctors prescribe them triptifans. Maybe something to try.

You might give the meclizine a try. It’s not too spendy and is over the counter in the pharmacy departmnent of most stores? I use the “Bonine” which is chemically the same thing.
I had a good idea, you can get non aerosol silicone spray that comes in pump bottles, like water consistency, if you get the silicone spray that is made for treadmill belts- made that way so people in exercise rooms and gyms don’t have to get fumigated when it is used.
Just google search “treadmill silicone spray” and I bet you will find something.

I have taken Lipitor since it came out. At 40 something I found out I had high cholesterol and due to my father having heart attacks at age 40, I started taking it.
I tired about everything for it before I did, even that damn nician, which causes me migraines in of itself, not to mention having to take ice cold baths for the burning, beet red skin it caused.
At 63 still have not had a stroke or heart attack and seem to have gotten my mothers genes. Her side of the family does not need religeon, for they seem to be immortals.
I exerise to exhaustion/failure several times per week and have not had a sign of chest pain so far at 63, plus I keep my body fat in the low teens with a very strict diet.
I know few folks like me who did 630 pushups in an hour for their 63rd birthday.
Only bitch I have is these friggen migraines though.

the meds he mentioned (meclizine and lovastatin) would likely not cause you any problems. Meclizine is the active ingredient in Bonine/ Dramamine- it’s a motion sickness tablet that effects your inner ear and likely has something to do with the cochlea and your balance- the statin drugs are sythesized but based on a red rice yeast mold found in the orient that is known to lower your cholesterol deposits in your blood vessels. You used to be able to buy them both over the counter. For sure can still buy the bonine or dramamine- now they are in less drowsy of a formula, but active ingredient is same. The red rice yeast mold is in herbal remedy products and the big pharmacy drug companies made it illegal for a while so they could profit off the sythesized varieties they sell like simvastatin and atorvastatin. but I heard the old natural product is back on the market again. Just something you could go buy and try if it got bad enough, might be something worth having on hand. I am an EMT/clinician. Folks get prescribed these meds regularly fr various things. Had not heard the meclizine works for migrains, but have first hand experience it worked for nausea. I use it before going out on boat fishing trips in open ocean. good luck
I had those migraines for 20 years really bad.
When I was alone living on that mountain they got so bad that I would go blind and numb on my entire left side. I had no phone or no one to check on me for weeks and months on end at times.
My fear was that if I had a stroke during the migraines, I had already los tthe eye to them, my dog would be stuck in the house with no food and would eat me, he was a mean pup and fought bear and coyotes for elk and deer carcasses and fought me for dominate.
I had a room that I had blocked all the light out of, and would write a note to my kids that I was having a migraine, take a S&W snubbie and when I determined which side was going numb, I would put the pisol on that side.
I was not suiciddal, I just did not want to be eaten alive and would rather choose my form of death and I wanted my kids, who new how bad the migraines were, to know that I did not do myself in from being heartbroken.
They were desperate times.
For around three years, I meditated to remove myself from the pain, it is how I got started in eastern religeon, that and reading the bible thru twice.
Meds have been a problem, I can’t take the newer Migraine meds they really come close to killing me.
I did take and have a script for Propanonol which works pretty good for a while, the problem is the side effect of slowing my already slow heart beat down. When I work out, I run out of blood and come close to passing out and going down because my heart rate does not climb, so I have not been taking it.
I still get “classical MIgraines” once or twice a week, which is the aura and no pain, but yesterday it took a life of its own.
It is one of the vehicles in any spray product that is under pressurae that gives me the migraines, whether spray paint, or spray texture or whatever.
Today I will look for some liquid silicone.

The first time I got the Aura a few years back, it scared the hell out of me. There was a weird halo in my vision that looked like sunlight reflecting off of ripples on a lake. It closed in to make for a strange tunnel vision effect, but anything I looked at straight on, I couldn’t see. Thought I was going blind!
Damed RC! I didn’t know you could actually go blind from it. It hasn’t happened but once in the last year, and it didn’t develop into a full blown migraine. Scary stuff!

Not sure if this method would give you migraines…likely, but get someone else to make this mixture for you.
You can get an empty tupperware bowl, squeeze some of a tube of clear silicone out of a caulking gun into it, then spray a can or part of a can of brake clean into it. Mix that all up really good and it all turns thin like water. Then you can use a paint brush to apply it to whatever you want. A friend of mine does this for water proofing his Carharts. I did a hat once and it became water proof.
When brake Kleen dries, it leaves no residue (it’s flamable like methyl ethyl ketone or something?- it gives me a headache just thinking about it- so might be a bad idea for you, , but likely any liquid silicone would be much like this homemade variety, it evaporates quick and leaves only the silicone behind, and since the silicone was all dissolved, it leaves a tiny little layer of silicone on whatever it came into contact with. This is more of a waterproofing thing, but might work to brush onto a mass quantity of bullets if they were all sitting up on end in a group. Maybe could be applied individually to each bullet with a tiny little brush and wearing rubber gloves. All it would take is a can of brake kleen, a tube of clear caulking style silicone , and a paint brush. If you have extra and you mixed it in a tupperware then just put the lid on to save the remaining solution for later. Just an idea for you to make some homemade liquid silicone. Wear a respirator mask perhaps…. I like the barber shop idea too.
RC: I hear you about the migraines!!!!
I suffered from those bastards for 30 years or so. For a long time, there wasn’t any meds for them, you just had to try to function or sleep it off. The drug companies came out with Midrin and my doctor prescribed Midrin and aspirin to take when I got the warning signs of an oncoming migraine. That worked around 50% of the time and was a vast improvement!
Zomig came out and my doctor switched me over to that. After the Zomig scrip, if I got the warning signs of an oncoming migraine attack, I would take a Zomig, two aspirins and wait to see what develops. The Zomig and aspirin worked around 85-90% of the time. The other 10-15% STILL SUCKED REALLY BAD! If the Zomig worked, I didn’t get a migraine but, the Zomig made me feel like a block headed zombie for the next few hours.
Around 5 years ago, my doc put me on Meclizine and Lovastatin and I haven’t had a migraine since then. I don’t know which drug stopped me from having migraines or if it is a combo of the two. I still carry Zomig and I still occasionally get the warning signs of an impending migraine attack but; I have never gotten a migraine with the new meds.
The Meclizine was prescribed for dizziness (imagine that!) and the Lovastatin, I think, is for high blood pressure.
Whatever: I just know that I haven’t had a migraine for over 5 years and I am VERY thankful for that!
You might ask your doc. Just sayn!

I shot about 70 of them yesterday and the barrel is still shooting great, I just would like a little thinner oil for the colder weather were having, but it is working.
I think I paid 6 bucks with shipping for 2 oz, so it is not like it would break me to order another bottle.
