Ideal/Lyman molds on Ebay and fixing loose mold handles
Someone is selling a collection of Ideal/Lyman molds that were new old stock and has them on Ebay. They have been stored greased for years. Many are 257 bullet molds,Ideal/Lyman 257 molds in any shape seem to go for $110.00 or more, but a lot of these for sale now are unused.
I don’t know if all of these come from the same source, but ene is Butchers beloved 6 cavity EEG/UUG, many 257 designs in single cavity and a Lee 6 cavity 257 52 grain which would be good for those who have a 257 barrel on a platform that does not make a lot of power.
There are also many 30 caliber designs that would look very interesting if I had a 30.
I am rather mold heavy with having two NOE molds and a HP 257420 mold right now and the 410 Accurate mold, all I need for my needs is another accurate mold in 350 to 375 for the Ranger, but I could also live without it..
I sold three molds last week including that RCBS 257 85 grain Cowboy bullet and will sell some more this week.
The HP 257430 I have is the double HP with the extractor, it makes beautiful bullets quickly, but the weather has been shit and I have no idea how they fly.
I also found a great fix for loose wood to steel handles on bullet molds if anyone is having that problem.

Searched high and low on ebay for that 53 gr mold…could not find it. Perhaps it was already sold?
The Saeco are strange looking molds to me, although I did have a Lee 338 mold that was very accurate and closely copied that design, I killed my first cast bullet elk with that bullet.
I got the 257388 in today and cleaned it up, lubed it and cast 35 bullets with it to break it in and then cast some more bullets to see how they did.
It was a very consisitant 44 grains +or- .1 grain. Then I measured them and things went wrong fast or so I thought.
They measured .255 on my HF digital calipers, I was bummed, then I remembered Doug giving me a bad time about my HF calipers.
So I took out some 257420 and NOE 80 grain bullets and measured them, same .255, it was the calipers measuring incorrectly.
I slid them back and forth a few times and closed them and the reading was .04, I then zeroed them and remeasured the bullets and got .259. Whew I was relieved.
NIce looking mold, bullets and easy to cast with, I just paid way too much for it because it is a collectors item.
I counted my 257 molds, came up with 7 molds, way to many, but testing will tell which ones are keepers and which ones go on Ebay.

About Saeco’s .257?….what do you suspect for them?
Also 25-100 Herters look good but are very rare at our days…..even for a used one.

Too loopy of a trajectory for what I want to do, I think with my power plant 100 grains is tops.
You have to remember John’s 120 mold is casting them at 133 grains with the alloy he uses, and he pushes that to 1130FPS which is about as fast as I an throw a 80 grain in hot weather.
If that little 80 grain spitzer shoots as good as the NOE 80 grain it will be the barn stormer, and once I get my Haley back it will be sent down range in the first 30 minutes to compare the two in the 1-14.
Then I will put the 1-10 barrel on it and revisit the NOE 100 grain bullet and the Hoch. I suspect I will need to put a few thousand shots through the 1-10 before it really starts performing well.

Also should not bε a problεm for othεr bullεt nosεs instεad thosε with flat onε.
…You can’t εvεn imaginε what kind of damagε can bε madε from a bullεt likε this.
Thε hard stainlεss ball push hard in thε middlε whεn it attachs first a surfacε and lεad εxpands on thε sidεs likε a bud….so you can hit likε a cal doublε in sizε than thε onε you usε.

That sounds really time consuming and difficult to me KQ. With one eye, no depth perception and clumsy fingers I would just burn myself trying to get ball bearings settled in the center of the nose of 4 cavities and remain there while pouring.
As far as what will shot best in the 1-10, I suspect it will be the Hoch. Right now the Hoch is doing 4 inches at 260 and weighing in at 105, where the NOE just does not send a single bullet out without tumbling.
But what I am truly curious about is how the lighter bullets will do in the fast twist. Bowman says they will shoot just as well and he is usually right.
I did buy Lyman/Ideal # 257388 a 80 grain spritzer last week, still waiting for it to arrive.
Doug received my rifle and 1-10 barrel today to fit, I had with drawls and had to buy a Edgun 25 long to heal the wound in my heart due to Haley seperation syndrome AKA Scandalous Depravation..
But I have to wait for that to get here on the 30th with the Leupold vx111 4.5×14 mildot/turrents I bought for it.
I do love Ebay.
Doing pretty good without the ball bearing so far, shot these last week at 260 yards. 😉

This trick givεs εithεr wεight balancε on bullεts body or unstability ….Dεpεnds thε dεsign.
Also ,glossy surfacε of stainlεss hεlps at aεrodynamics,…that means better BC.
Pεrsonally,it givεs mε many trophiεs at somε casεs….of coursε nεεdεd a hardεr alloy to prεvεnt balls loosεn from thε rεst lεad body…just likε mεtal clips to thε clip-on whεεl wεights.
…nεεdεd to bε hard and stεady… thats why thεy contεnt othεr alloys instεad stick-on wεights.
Somε pεoplε usεd to rεmovε ball aftεr casting and makεs a littlε hollopoint but thε ball must sit fimly to thε wall of cavity and don’t lεt thε moltεn lεad to pass in front….in that casε bullεt nosε must look likε a crown.
This is in ordεr to havε somεthing to play if somεthing’s going wrong about the expεctεd accuracy.

oh, I thought you meant it was for sale now…Those 52 grainers may be ideal in my 30″ barrel. If you ever sell that one I request first dibs if someone has not already requested it.
