R3 Barrel torque value and reg tuning
Does anyone have any info on the barrel torque value on the R3 std .22 ?? If not the exact value then atleast some directions for proper torque. Loose? Snug? Tight? Real tight? Red in the face-tight ?? Thanks in advance !

Nice! You´re really taking this with different pellet speeds-footage and all-seriously. I´ll be following your tuning efforts closely.
I did my last study at 831fps before my tune. For details, please refer to the link in my signature below. It is fun too. ➡
I will start my tune soon.
You´ll like it once you do. Fun, although time and air consuming.
Do you know the fact that Veerkracht won the competition in this FPS range?
Will summertime temperatures increase the speed that much?
Good to see you are making a progress.
I will start my tune soon.
So – i turned the reg at 4.30 and it now tops at 879 fps .. I quess i need to go to 4 o´clock to be able to get it upto 890-900 and i believe i can still screw it down to 870 fps with that setting so i can get a range between 870-900 fps which enables testing/finding the speed that suits this gun the best, accuracy -and deviation-vise. This tinkering is really getting addictive and it´s lot of fun too, BTW. 😆
I have one more question regarding the ultimate set-up: Is it better to have the HST set at the max tension for a particular speed or as loose as one can have it and still retain the desired fps ?? I mean,if i get the same speed although the HST is set at 9 o´clock or 1/2 turn tighter at 3 o´clock (or even at 6 o´clock) before the speed starts to drop again, is it best to have it as loose as possible (9 o´clock) or as tight as possible (at 6 o´clock, 3/4 turn more tension) when chasing that ultimate set-up for that particular speed ??
I don´t know… I removed the scope in between so few clicks here and there are always needed. I´ll pay closer attention to that regard during this “tuning” session and i´ll report back.
EDIT : I mounted the scope at the same exact place and the POI stayed the same. This is regarding the speed alteration. If you mean whether the POI changed after i retorqued the barrel/muffler it did change but not overly much. Maybe 1″ in both hight and windage.

No. I don´t. I know he got fourth in some competition but right then he was shooting 16gr at 950 + fps as i recall it. I followed your suggestion and discovered that while super accurate at 30 yrds it was shooting bigger groups at 55 yrds compared to the 895 fps set-up. Now i know that for close range shooting the 860- ish speed is a bit more accurate.
Did you have any poi changes after screwing the barrel back on?
Why not enjoy your shooting more between 860-870fps in a few weeks to fully understand your gun’s characteristics at the level, then decide your next tune. The summer temp may push up your FPS to 870-880 or even more.

I´ll do a complete string tomorrow and report back. Or do you think i should go for the 4.30 at once? I won´t get more than 865 fps out of the current 5.30 setting anyways … I´ll just shoot some 60-70 pellets and see how they stack at this 865 +- fps first. Or ??
BTW- i wonder if i do the HST adjustment correctly : I back it off two turns and start shooting and i go in 1/2 turn increments from there untill the speed peaks and starts to slow down again. Then i back off untill i find the HST setting that gives the highest pellet speed. Is this procedure O.K or am i doing something stupid ??
I really need to get a better chrony for easier recording of strings.
What was your high & low? Based on info 4:30 sounds like good target for 880s possibly touching 890s.
Don´t !! It gets very addictive very fast .. 😎
This gun is ridiculously easy to work on so even a trained Monkey could do all the needed wrenching. It´s the trial & error that´s the tough part – not because it´s complicated but since it´s just that – trial & error: Empty the tube (and be very sure it´s empty before you open it up),adjust the reg,put everything back together, fill the gun, adjust the HST,shoot some pellets and chrony them, realize you aren´t quite there, empty the tube,re-adjust the reg, bla, bla, bla. You may need to do this ten times so be sure to have plenty of air and pellets at hand. It´s a lot of fun though !
Now – i backed off from 6 to 5.30 but soon realized it only gave me 10 fps over those 850-855 i started with so i ended up at rough 865 fps = need to dive in and open her up some more. I didn´t have the time to shoot any groups with that “new” speed setting (some .22 LR shooting got in the way) but will do so tomorrow. After that i´ll dive into the reg again and i think about setting it at around 4 o´clock. Or is that too big of a jump ?? Demp or some other wizard, where are you ??
SV,
Keep us updated. I may open up mine very soon.

BTW – what causes excessive air consumption if the reg is set so that you achieve a top speed ,say 890 fps, with HST adjustement before it tapers off again (this,i believe is the correct HST level) ??? I mean isn´t it the whole meaning of this tuning excercise to find that spot so you can get the best/highest shot count and the lowest possible air efficiency ?? I feel i´ve only achieved higher air consumption in the process … Something stinks here – and it isn´t those red leather trunks H 😯 😯 T likes to wear during his nightly escapades … 😕
