Yes,the only change i done is the barrel body.
I get a new one and i cut more the space to the bullet feeder…I made a larger Prode too.
Right now i get 280 FPE at 280 bar.
For over 320bar must fill the tube straight from my compressor because i haven’t a diving bottle over 300bar but i intent to buy one soon.

KQ,

I have been spreading your fame about the hot rod SS410 257 you have on the Yellow forum, your the only fellow I know who has done that.

Good luck on that 30, is it going to be on the same SS4400 platform?

RC

No never tried a Kreiger barrel.
I was almost ready to order a Hart barrel due Oldgoat’s advice at “Mihec Mold topic” but finally i choose a Shilen after read several good reviews about them and i m really happy with my purchase.
Do you remember i told you that i got 4 barrels…two .257 and two .308… Right now i m experimenting at .308cal and i think that im on the right way for an excellent result.
Maybe buy a Hart one at 1-8/1-9 twist.
I will let you know if will find something important.

KQ,

Yes it does make a big difference.

I had a Shelien on a Remington 700 short action, superb barrel, and a cut above the Douglas barrels I had in the past.

Have you ever had a Kreiger?

I would love to see one of Old Goats Hart barrels, but more than that, I would love to see how they shoot. The factory turned his Hart barrels down for him and they had lap.

KQ,

I fire lapped the 1-10 yesterday with the two finer grits in the three grit Wheeler fire lapping kit.

Instead of shooting 5 rounds and cleaning I shot one round and cleaned with 320 and 600 grit of which I shot 25 shots. It took a long time to do it but the results were well worth it.

I shot the 100 grainer at 280 yards and it seems to be doing 1.5 to 2 inches now for the two shooting cessions have done with it.

I have a picture of the group, but Photophucket will not let me post pictures until the 19th.

RC…Thats the reason why i ask you about performance according barrels…my barrel shoots like you describe above and i done nothing.
I suppose that my barrel came with a really fine finishing by the manufacturer so i always hesitated to firelap it.

Why thank you Tof. 😳

RC

That’s good stuff RC. I hand lapped my barrel for the second time recently and groups DEFINITELY improved. I have a video on youtube of 2 four shot groups at 160 yards with each bullet touching the other. They were 2 groups with 2 very different bullets but the results were the same…lol!

RC…..have a told you lately YOUR DA MAN!

It Stops? 😕 Dirt day? 😉

lol! IT NEVER EEEEEEENNNNNNNNNNNDDDDDDSSSSSSSS! LOL!

I have decided to shim my Leupold to where I have a zero at around 200 yards when at the bottom of my adjustment in order to get to 600+ yards. When I attempted to hit the 12 oz cans at 608 yrads I was maxed out in elevation adjustment and it affected my accuracy potential.

I use the Burris Sigature rings with inserts and shim under the plastic insert to avoid damaging the scope.

Problem is that this will limit any shots for game animals at closer range, I am thinking of removing the VX111 off my Ranger 45 and sighting it in for 85 yards for varmits.

That gives me 3 molds, two barrels and two Leupold scopes for the Haley, when does it stop?

KQ,

I forget what John told me about how many shots he gets before needing cleaning. However I think it was about what I am getting with the 1-14.

Pellet shooters seldom clean their rifle barrels unless accuracy goes bad, and most just don’t need to.

Cast bullet air guns leave a different type of leading than fire arms that shoot cast bullets, it is a transfer from lead rather than a deposit left from vaporized lead.

If I was shooting a Krieger, Hart or a Shelien or one of the better tubes on my air rifle I would expect to go the same as you and I are getting, 60 shots or so. But sounds like your cleaning out of guilt and I am cleaning because accuracy certainly does degrade once I start seeing the lead streaks at the muzzle.

And that is one of two ways I know when to clean, I look at the muzzle rim, that quarter inch you see when you have the sun at your back looking at the crown as the sun shines on t or I sue a Cree type flashlight to illuminate it. With mine I look through the ports on my Muzzle breaks to see it. The other way is if the groups start getting larger.

I was amazed how important a freshly cleaned barrel was when shooting at 500+ yards KQ, you can see it in that 500 yard video the first three shots with a clean barrel got a can. Now in the 552 yard video the wind had come up and was gusting, and clean barrel or not your going to be chasing the wind.

I don’t mind cleaning, I simply unscrew the barrel with hand pressure, and clean from the breech with first a alcohol patch to get the Silicone oil out, then a couple dry patches, I use a jag tip, then I brush with a 25 or 270 brush with fine bronze wool wrapped on it, it compresses over a few cleanings and I add more bronze wool. I scrub it a few minutes and then repeat the alcohol and dry patches from the beginning and then a patch with silicone oil on it and I am ready to start shooting.

The Haley barrel has no ports, just threads and it buts up against the receiver when hand tight. My rifle is long so when I transport it in the case, I just unscrew the barrel and carry the rifle and the two barrels in the case with the two cleaning rods under the foam.

RC..do you know how many shots needs Mr.Bowman’s rifle until try to clean it?…My understanding drive me to conclude that after 40.000+ shots he probably do this every 100+ shots or none attempt.
I usually clean my barrel every 60-70 shots but not for accuracy lost…It just the way i use to manipulate all my barrels…Do you thing it’s wrong?….i mean, would you advise someone to keep his barrel unclean until loose it’s accuracy?

KQ,

I am sure that barrel manufacturing does matter, the TJ’s seem to need breaking in and I am still doing that with the 1-10.

Translate that into interior bore surface smoothness, my experience with Shilen barrels is that they are better finished inside.

Most of my shooting with the257420 and 80 grain NOE is with the 1-14 and with that barrel I get around 2 to 3 inches with the 420 and perhaps a little better with the 80 NOE.

Now with the 1-10 it is still in the 2.25 to 3.25 inch with the 257420 and in the 2.5 to 3.5 inch with the NOE 80, the 100 grain is doing 3 to 3.5 at this point, all these figures are for 260 yards.

Considering the number of rounds down range with the 1-14, 7,000 and the fact I have only around 1500 to 2000 shots thru the 1-10, it is doing about as well as the 1-14 was doing at this point. The more I shoot it the better it gets. And at this point I shoot the 1-10 almost exclusively.

Both barrels are capable of shooting far better than that with the occasional stellar group, and of course a lot worse if I am having a off day, the difference right now is the 1-14 shoots more of those stellar groups at 7000 rounds thru it.

The other thing is I am still finding out what the 1-10 likes, unfortunately it does not do as well with unsized bullets as it does with sized bullets, which is completely different than what the 1-14 likes which is unsized bullets, or at least this holds true with the NOE 100 grain bullet which is primarily what I shoot in it.

Thing is that accuracy advantage disappears at the longer ranges where wind effects the bullet more, so my concentration is on the 1-10 and getting it broken in.

Biggest difference is in the amount of shots I get thru the barrels before they need cleaning. The 1-14 with its mirror like interior gets close to 60 shots, while the 1-10 is around 25 shots, less at longer ranges where any minor problem manifests itself more, I really noticed that when doing the Pepsi Challenge at 500 to 600 yards. After cleaning the shots were much more tightly clustered around the can. I tried to get by with firelapping only 20 bullets thru the 1-10 using 600 grit, the 1-14 I had firelapped with 15 shots of each of the three girts, and it appears I should do that with the 1-10 also.

I hope this answers your question.

RC

So…how bad shoot the NOE100gr under the 280yrd in your gun ?
mine shoot differently and unsized…maybe barrel manufacturing matters…I have a 1/10 shilen.
