Q:

Help! My Edgun lost it’s mojo

I need help!

My Edgun R3 (.22 standard) has been hitting it’s target absolutely perfectly, until now.
It started spreading it’s bullets, at 50 meters it’s an inch here, or half an inch there, then all of the sudden 5 bullets hole in hole (which is normal for this gun) then an inch in some direction, i.e. totally erratically.

Cleaned the barrel, re-seated the gun in the stock, swapped ammo, checked the scope mount, no change.

So what to check?

Could it be clipping? Is there any videos on how to get the shroud off easiest way? Is there a way to loosen the barrel and re-seat it?

Arrrrggghh it was shooting SO well, was shooting beer cans hung up in a string at 75 meters, not aiming at the can, I had the goal to shot the string off the can instead, and now this…

I should add;
Putting on a scope cam and I think I can see hints of spiralling on the shot’s going wrong, I tried various HST settings just to try to make a change but it did not help, So that’s why I wonder if it could be clipping.

Yap. It was you, Jet who pointed me in the right direction when i had the problem. Re-torqued the barrel and opened up the LCD to 7mm. Problem gone!

I second that…
I was shooting 1″ group at 50m, didn’t understand it at first and figured it was time for a barrel clean, after that it was back to 1/2″ at the same distance but with constant fliers 2/3 high the back to my zero…I believe mine is clipping again. gong to wait for the multi-shoot and then do a complete strip-down and open up the LCD to 6.75mm.

I bet it was the barrel needing to be re-torqued. If you had everything apart then, i assume , you also dismounted/re-torqued the muffler and that took care of the business. Yeah, Baby-behave!

Ok, I guess like Austin Powers would have said, “Yeah, Baby”

My Edgun’s mojo is back, It was not clipping, but I do not know exactly what it was either.

I started to realise it was not about some pellets starting to spiral but rather all pellets and question was rather at what distance they started to spiral (!??!??!)

I tried many thing, but in the end, I went shotgun approach, I cleaned the barrel with rubbing alcohol, I tore down the whole gun and lubed and trimmed all parts from scratch (except Regulator), I even swapped Scope & mount just because.

Then I sacrificed a chicken.. Ehh not really, but I shot a bird “in the name of the Edgun”;)

Today I have been shooting 250+ pellets so far and enjoyed every one of them, even in high and gusty wind I been sitting and poking those 8 mm bulls eyes on my targets.

I wont call it just yet but this for sure was a good day!

Sounded almost like some radio control helicopter hobby talk… oscillating main rotors… ๐Ÿ˜› Also, a hobby of mine…

“If the pellets are spiraling or oscillating you may need to lower the main rotor gain.

Wait… the EdGun doesn’t have a Vbar. ๐Ÿ˜†

When I saw your username I had to check the youtube video to see if you were the same MrMel I was thinking of. It seems many of us have the same hobbies. :D”

all we’re missing is gyro and rudder gain for rc heli talk ๐Ÿ™‚

i fly the little money pits as well…about as expensive and addictive as the airgun hobby!

If after removing the shroud and your POI still all over the places. You need to do a full string shots, your reg might be dead. I hope it’s not the reg, if it’s dead….you will have a long wait to get a new one. I am still waiting since May for a new regulator.

If the rifle still exhibits fliers after trying a different lot of pellets the first thing I would do is test fire with the shroud removed to see if it may have been bumped or moved in shipping and pellets are now clipping the shroud.

The variations in your chronograph velocities could indicate a regulator or hammer issue (doubtful, but possible) or more likely the occasional low number could be a pellet which has clipped the shroud and lost a little energy/velocity in the process.

Thatยดs my exact, very unprofessional diagnosis as well. If it was working fine before the shipment the chances are it got thrown around during parcel and something got bumped out of alignment.

MrMel,

If the pellets are spiraling or oscillating you may need to lower the main rotor gain.

As others have suggested, before tearing into the rifle the first thing I would try is a different lot number of pellets to rule those out and also be selective and inspect the pellets you use for testing.

And how to remove it best way? I tried with heat but without success, its tighten down -hard-, best tip?

Remove what the best way ? If you mean the muffler housing check my earlier reply. If you mean the muffler itself you really need a good bench wise with soft jaws (or something to protect the finish on the breech) and a good 19mm open end wrench. The rest is easy ; Twist hard ! Check your testosterone level before attempting the trick ! If youยดre not able to get it loose then send it down here and Papa Ville will remove it for ya … ๐Ÿ˜†
Seriously – itยดll come off with some wellplaced rage and once it does itยดs far easier to remove the next time around. Monkey approach,my Swedish friend. Monkey approach …

Ive already went back to a ‘known good’ tin and same effect.

At no wind ive been sitting trying to hit 8mm bulls eye on a paper and i usually hit it more than 50% and that was at 63 meters, others was still within a quarter.

So now when shot after shot falling outside the quarter by far its no brainer, then i take my FX and shoot bulls eye again i know its not my shooting.
