Talon pcp Tank dump (edited)
Hi,
My Talon pcp can’t handle
samyang (eunjin) 16 and 19 grn.
Tank dump had occured at various fill pressures 3000, 2800, 2500, & 2200 psi .
What intrigue me is, it shoots smoothly for about 10 shots of samyang /eunjin 19grn after the dump. But with lesser impact at the target.
Power setting was at 10 and 11.
Seen the valve , no cracks or deformation.
Talon pcp
Calibre .177
Barrel 18 ”
Hammer + xtra wt
Almost new pcp shot about 70 pellets only.
Please suggest any remedy. Am new to AF.
What all will be required to convert it to .25 calib . besides the barrel.

Hi,
Recap of all the post / advices from the seniors…..
1 . Pellets not fitting flush to the barrel.
2 . Barrel being new, most of the pellets negotiates through it very tightly (i fynk pellets don’t like it v tight)
3 . Breech is way wider for .177 that too with condor valve .
Resulting in too large a vol of air being release from tank for .177 barrel to managed in that crucial fraction of a sec.
4 . Fill pressure may be too high. Hammer may be too heavy for the talon and that stiff valve return spring.
4 . Opening of the tank not an easy job for everyone. Unless someone guides for the first time. With Right tools.
I knew I am in the right forum/place for airforce air rifles.
My DIY with careful reading and rereading of the seniors advices.
1. Barrel lapping. Using the easily available grinding paste. Used the fine paste not the coarse.
Requirement— time and patience the most.
2. Keep the fill pressure below 2800 psi.
3. Kept the pw setting to 2 & half to 3 & half for lighter pellets
and pw 5 – 6 for samyang heavy.
No more dump. And am happy about it.
Haven’t checked for accuracy or speed ( don’t have a chrony at present)
Regards,
Will open or do other things after the barrel lapping.
Do you do with some rod or the cumbersome pullthrough like I ‘m doing.
I have a brass rod but its for lr rimfire.
Master you have a PM.

.
You have the tool to get the tank open alright. Do what Dyotat100 said.
Oh, I had an unusual amount of corrosion between the valve seat spring and the brass nut that holds it. Lots of humidity from time to time here. Anyway, I cleaned it up and smeared it with a tiny bit of automotive type Di-Electric grease. Haven’t opened it since then so I hope it is better 😳
Image of your valve stem is a bit blurry but looks improved.
But, it also looks like it has been ported.
That’s good for a short while but a Talon Tunes One Piece Adjustable Valve Stem would be better as it is stronger and more versatile with the inserts.
One of the OEM valves that I ported eventually began to collapse and another developed a crack.
The Talon Tunes One Piece is well worth buying.
Not the valve. You want to heat the top of the tank where the valve is in the tank. That helps with what ever they put on the threads
Hmmmm this seems to be easiest. To start with……
Will do this today itself then post the image.
bit reluctant of the mighty tasks of…..(which i really don’t know)
– heating the valve assembly part only to 200 degrees.
– softening the sealant in the threading.
– hunting for the right tools.

Yes you need to remove the valve. So the spring is real stiff? Still might be able to make it stiffer by tightening the spring retainer.
You need to find a 5/16″ rod to remove the valve. You should heat up the tank right at the valve a little. No more than 200 degrees though.

I think I’ll order some to have on hand ❗
Afterall, I’m only 70ish and plan to build a lot in the next 50 year’s.
Again you are pulling my leg.
You said you are 70ish young.
BUT you sound like an old cask matured 50 years old rum or even younger.
This reminds me of a ‘Musaira’ (Urdu couplet recitals) i saw as a child along with my uncle and aunt.
It took me nearly 30 + years to understand what that old fart was saying and why there was a huge applause. It goes like this………
1 . ‘talwar to hain purana lekin dhar to wohi hai,
budha wona jaroori hai per thought to wohi jawani hain ‘
( the sword is old but its sharpness is same as new,
its normal to get old (man) but my thought/ thinking is same as those of youthful days )
2 . “kaun kehta hain asmaan pe chhed nahin kar sakta,
Are yaro koi ek kankar to uthao aur fekke to dekho”
( who said you can’t make a hole in the sky,
dear friends just pick up a pebble, atleast give it a TRY )
I still remember that old man who could barely walk like a duck with walking stick and took ages to walk upto the microphone on the stage.
White beared, properly trimmed. Wrinkles at right places to tell how content his life has been so far. Long white hair. And for his receding hairline he wore a funny boat shaped cap with a tilt to one side.
So, I saw then and conclude now
‘ A man is as old as he fynks 😎 ‘.
Wot thou saith Lurker.
So, much for a lesson on barrel lapping. LOLzzzz

Vise will be managed.
Magazine 🙄 you meant fo cushion, ok. Available.
Drill , fo wot ? But it Can be managed.
Sledge hammer aw 😥 Thank God you didn’t say cyclotron and nuclear reactor.
Regards,
You will have to apply heat if it is the first time it has been removed. They use some kind of sealant on it. 👿
Knife
Which is supposed to be opened. Want to go the correct way.
regards,
Talon stem is small, compared to the Condor, do you have a vise? and a magazine? and a 5/16 drill bit? and a 2 1/2 lb. sledge hammer?
To get to the return spring retainer, (the part you need to adjust,) , you don’t want to remove the brass face plate. You want to remove the entire valve assembly. The entire black collar area. The one with the hole in the side. 😉
You will have to apply heat if it is the first time it has been removed. They use some kind of sealant on it. 👿

Hope I have not over done the DIY barrel lapping.
Accuracy remains the same. Except for the cross man premier tin these spread 1″ at 23 mtrs.
Zeroed with jsb match diabolo at 23 mtrs. (max backyard range)
Shooting was done with an improvised wooden gunvice / clamp.
JSB execta ………….. Hit the bull
5 pellets , hole in hole.
H & N silvr pt ….. 1 cm left and 1 cm low ,
5 plts hole in hole.
Eunjin 19grn …….. 1 inch low
5 pellets hole in hole.
Crossman premier tin
5 pellets …. 1 inch spread. No hole in hole.
Here are some pellets pushed down the barrel to see the fitting.
