Q:

Moving on

It seems injuries have dictated my paths in life.

I was injured in the line of duty at age 31 and retired for life on a full pension. It allowed me to live in the wilderness, hunt for 25 years straight and travel the world.

I loved to hunt elk, but the last trip I got a migraine at 6200 feet, from the elevation and my police injury and it left me temporarily blinded in a foot and half of snow, I have not drawn a tag since then, perhaps I was lucky, but was foolishly ready to go with the Ranger 45 at any time if I got a tag, but the opportunity never came.

This last week at harvest, after feeling like superman for completing my 64000, 64th year, pushup ordeal in 10 months instead of 12 months, I tried to move a 1000 lb grape bin and hurt my back, it was a task I decided foolishly again that I had to do because of someone else’s lack of practical planning and I got caught up in it.

I could not get out of bed the next day and it was 3 days before I could put on my socks, right now Stoli vodka and copious amounts of Advil make life bearable, but I am healing up.

I had a trip to Asia planned to see Thailand again, with my wife daughter and her boy friend, Cambodia, mainly Angkor Watt, Viet Nam and to spend a few months with family in the Philippines. But it dawned on me if I hurt myself doing such foolishness, I can’t enjoy the years I have left and have worked to stay healthy and fit for.

Like going blind at 6200 feet in a foot and a half of snow to kill elk number 50, I realized I don’t need to do this grape thing anymore. Before I take off for Asia in a couple of months I will store everything including my car and when I return, I will not be living on the vineyard and I will no longer have a 300 yard range. I will get a house in town and live the summers stateside and the winters somewhere warm and exotic and exciting, hopefully.

I as a result, be selling all my air guns and equipment, everything shooting related before I leave.

Four yeas ago in the Philippines, I got interested in air gunning. It led me to this forum and Condors and then to cast bullets in Condors and then following Tofasfou and Doug, to that 615 yard 12 oz coke can with the Haley 257. I enjoy writing and long range shooting and I have enjoyed the journey. My thanks to Tony for the forum to write on and the rest of you who were not too bored by my posts.

Regards,

Roachcreek

So I sold first my Ranger and the accessories last week, and over the next

I guess you want to quit while you’re ahead?

You’ll be back, your Ego wont let you watch others hit pop cans at 616 yards. ( I have hit floaters at 190 with my pellets, and they are moving down with the current. That’s a floating can in the Columbia in case you wanted to know. :))

CYA round RC.

In order to leave the TAG brotherhood you either have to.

A. Die (and even THAT might not be enough….)
B. Get booted off. (not easy…you have to become a complete putz for that to happen… or knowingly cheat a fellow member)

Roach-
Hopefully all is well with you and your world
I personally have been a bit missing from the TAG, however, once a TAG
Man always a TAG Man, please keep yourself in touch here once and a while
always enjoyed your posts and comradely, you my brother are a big part
of this place, and you basically are not allowed to leave us like that, just not allowed
not that simple
Anyway, be good, and keep in touch once in a while

Funny thing, I e-mailed Charlie and asked him if he is looking for a “Serf” to work his land as I would be willing!!!

I too have been in Florida 14 years and I am done!!! In fact, I am looking at homes in Washington. My sister lives in Seattle and I would like to be closer to her and I hear Washington is a beautiful state so if anyone has any ideas on good rural counties within 45 minutes of the city (work purposes) please let me know.

I think Charlie is not a hasty man and I think when he makes up his mind, it is made up. I too have been close to selling all my airguns but not because of displeasure…but because of necessity. Charlie will be back in the saddle. Like Roy Batty in Blade Runner he has “burned so brightly” in this airgun world and perhaps he burned too brightly!

Get well, my friend, take a deep breath, and put one foot in front of the other 🙂

RC,
Sorry to hear about your injury. That back stuff is bad news when it happens. Sometimes time, rest and guarded movement will get things sorted out again. Hope that will be the case with you this time.

All things considered turning the page on the Vineyard is a wise choice, but lets not be to hasty about selling off all the air gun goodies, and whats more Im not sure its possible to get out of this sport once your in it. This stuff is addictive like few things I have ever encountered.

Leaving the Mountains for the city life? Not sure about that one either 😕 I was born and raised in the Appalachian Mountains of south western Virginia and after 20+ years of Florida living I still ache for those Mountains every day. Lord willing Im going to make it back there some fine day.

Charlie,

You have blazed some fine trails in the airgun world and Im looking for you back!

Get well and back to shooting soon,
Tag

Quiter. 😆

Charlie,

You have been a tremendous help to me and a good friend over the years. I appreciate all that you have done for me and this forum. I wish you all the best in your Golden years. Take it slow for now, but never say never and don’t sell all your air guns…hold onto at least one.

MOVING ON 😕 WTF, that sounds to permanent ❗

We will be awaiting your return RC because there is still a lot to be done here.

Did you post a video of the soda/pop can shoot yet ❓
I must have missed it like all my shoots that seem to miss 😆
I only remember seeing Tofazfou’s 446 yard record shot. But then again I pushed 70 pretty hard a while back and don’t even remember either of my bitch ex wives. Or do I ❓

Anyway, good luck and a.speedy return ………………….

Live every day like it is your last.

Drink excessively, as alcohol is a known preservative!

Kindest regards, and thanks for the wisdom over the years…

Uncle H 😯 😯 t

Yeah, sick’em Tof! 👿 😉

Piss on the newbies? Seems I sprung a leak on a couple them latley. 😈 😳 😉 😆

Who’s gonna piss on the newbies now?!?! JK I’ll take your spot 😀

Hope you nothing but the best on your new journey!

May God be always with you on your new life adventures.
Hope to hear from you now and again… but not so often that you miss out on your family and other personal joys.

The occasional picture or short story would be enjoyed by all I am sure.

My worldly travels are restricted to that found between the pages of National Geographic Magazines…

It is wonderful that you get to take part in such travels and with family to share it with first-hand too…. awesome.

Bruce

WTF, WTF, WTF, WTF, WTF you talking bout man?! You can’t just up and leave. 😯

PM sent, i gotta curse you out in private sir! 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆

Sorry to hear all this.

Thank you for all your help in getting me setup for casting. I probably wouldn’t have got into casting without your help and now it’s one of my favorite things to do.

Stop back in once in while and let us know how things are going.
Good luck and enjoy doing whatever you decide to do.

I really like your dark humor. Would have been hella fun to drink with I bet:)
