Wood wrap or coating option?
Ok, I’ve just gotten word that I’ve got a $2k rifle waiting for me in Florida, just waiting for payment. I’m kind of worried about it because synthetic wasn’t an option for the stock and now I’m going to have a very nice wood stock. I’m wondering g if there are any options for coatings or some sort of wrap like the stuff being used instead of automotive paint that I could put over it that would not damage or stain the wood underneath. I know a lot of people use headliner spray to sort of make a synthetic stock but I don’t want to cause any staining removal damage. I’d like to keep the beautiful walnut completely unmolested and I know that I’m going to screw it up if I start carrying this thing around in the woods. I can be carful but I’m buying this gun to be used. It’s a tool. I just wish there was another option besides wood. I know its nice and all, but I’ve been a mechanic for about 20 years and I haven’t seen a wood screwdriver in anyone’s tool box since I was a child. That’s cause they have developed better materials to make tools out of. Even thou, I’ve got to admit I’m kind of excited to see the and hold that amazing looking chunk of wood.

I buy high end woodworking tools for the job site all the time, to do the job right you need the same screwdriver that is required to work on powder burners, otherwise the screws get all fucked up (I work on 2-7 million dollar homes btw). Buy quality once, buy crap over and over and over and over, not to mention it breaks at the most critical time… Shit, you know this, you buy Snap-On. 😉
My real point was once you see how good these things shoot you’ll most likely be keeping the rifle for some time. 😉
Anywho, i’m not sure that wrap has enough gold in it!

I’d give the cold dip plastic stuff a shot, get a can of the stuff you dip plier handles in and pain it on with a brush, at least just to test it out. Since the wood is sealed it may peel off when you want to remove it. There is also the camo tape that is stretchy and soft with some mild adhesive, not only does it look really cool it should protect the stock enough to avoid mild scratches. Hell, there are a few folks who would be willing to pay the price of a lightly used wood stock for a well done bedlinered/rubberized wood one. So if you do a really nice job you wouldn’t be lowering the resale value hardly at all.
I think if the Ed was offered with a composite stock for an additional $250-$500 (to cover the high cost of a low run injection system) they would barely sell enough to cover the cost of the mold alone. Most folks would just get the wood stock and bedliner it, not to mention the additional weight it would add (my Cricket’s composite stock is HEAVY).
Now you got me thinking about making a composite stock for my EdGun, something along the lines of the AI stock (lightweight plastic/composite scales that screw to a aluminum chassis). 😛
I think maybe I didn’t do a great job explaining my logic here. My impact actually came with a rubber boot to protect it and I’ve never broken a snap on or even craftsman screwdriver and I use them for lots of stuff I’m not supposed to. Even if the impact wasn’t protected, I didn’t have to buy the $300 dollar more expensive one because it was wood. I love everything about the edgun and that is why I’ve done the things I have to in oder to own it. The comparison to the screwdrivers isn’t exactly what I was talking about. No one buys high dollar wood screwdriver to use on a construction site or pit of an oil change shop anymore because they expect to abuse them and the snap-on plastic ones do the job very well. I graduated from mmi in 1997 and still have the screw drivers I bough as a student, but that not the point. I was saying that the wood is an upgraded option that creates more value To the item, but is much easier to damage and reduce the Appel of that aspect. Anyhow, I’ve found the wrap I’m going to use.

I’ve gone through a shit load of plastic screwdrivers, but I still have and use the ones my grandfather passed down to my dad who passed them down to me (they are similar to a full tang knife with wood scales on a solid tang). Same with wood handled chisels compared to plastic ones. I’ve even had plastic handles crack and fall apart sitting in the tool box.
Synthetic stocks get scratched and worn from use too. I would imagine your air impact wrench is scratched from use and it’s probably made of aluminum right?
You will be adding studs to it right? And maybe a rail for a bipod?
Look at it this way, if it doesn’t shoot better than your other rifles it won’t get used as much and you can sell it for new. If it shoots better than your other rifles you will use it a lot and in all likelihood never sell it. 😀

This is a good paint stripper, cheap and does the job as good if not better than the expensive name brands 😉

I actually found a little Jar of CCL Lacque Remover so i´m good for now. Besides that Biltema stuff is probably some cheap knock-off product Made in PRC and i´m trying to improve my shady character and quit my thieving ways so i´ll politely pass.

Glad to hear you´re O.K. I was a bit worried there for a while and had no-one to insult.
I´ll be in contact with him again on Tuesday regarding some bits & pieces for Crickets and i´ll ask him about the Humming Bird then. I have to say this though – KalibrGun seems to like to announce a date for a release but then postpone it just before it´s time for that damned release. Just look at the .35 cal Cricket . The latest release was now in December but that got delayed untill “early spring -14”.

Yap. Just talked to the Finnish importer and he said there´s a new stock for the .25, a WB (Called Bulldog, i think) too. He´ll get them in the end of December. The .35 cal is delayed untill early Spring 2014 though – for those who care …

It’s an easy process to reshape grip on Eds for a more comfortable feel. Just take your time and have various grades of sandpaper when done with final shape. You can do it in an hour easily.
I have one extra Hoodie in XL (quite large sizes) at home. Would that fit ??

I going to try the spray Berliner stuff on a cheap marlin 60 I bought for parts and see how that goes. I’ve found the auto wrap material on amazone for less than 10 buds so I’ll try that ADHD maybe try coating the wrap so it has no chance of damaging the wood.
