Will it work?
RC, Cedric, RJ, Knife, Doug..the list goes on, THE BULLET CLUB.
I think we are all impressed and intrigued by there bullet casting and long range shooting exploits
Someday I WILL go that route..but today is not the day.
So I’m trying a more humble experiment, if it works ..great, if not no big loss.
I took the barrel of an old broken 35 year old 22, a Winchester 190.
its now at a local gunsmith being turned down, I should get it back in the next few days.
I found some nice little 30gr bullets and figure I should be able to shoot them in the 900-1000fps range
Has anyone else ever tried this? Will it work?

WOW!!! 😯 I can’t help but wonder what the Doytat100 .25 valve adn the 4500 psi tanki could do with thet!!!!!! :8:
Dayum, I need a lathe! I have so many projects I want to test out. 😥

But I did put on the HiFlow tank setup and was able to actually get a shot string….
950 up to 1030 back to 950fps..for 15 shots at 2800psi start and 1800psi end.
TT’s HiFlow valve stock condor hammer (45gn hammer+20gn weight)
Yep! Sounds like the extra velocity did the trick. What is it getting with the Hi-Flow?

Long shooter, maybe you shoot better after a couple beers, huh, I would try that, but last time I had one (&#^@%!%#) I drank for 10 months—- straight…??? Who would of thought that would of happpened ***!!!^%$#@. I don’t know what I’ve been smokin tonight, but I am all tanked up, and ready for tomarrow, to shoot.
Went shooting again today with the 22lr barrel, met my shooting pal at our 150+ yard range(his bro’s house)
He was playing with his P-rod and M-Rod..doing his own things.(he did bring the beer..good boy)
I set up a 40 yard target, and was using the reg-ed tank (750fps) just to sight in with.
Awful group 1.5″ …stinks
After downing a few of the beers..took the empties and went for the long walk
set up cans at 135 yards, 114 yd, 3 at 90 yd.
Put the Hi-flow tank on and went to it.
Hit the 134 first shot (gotta be a fluke)
Hit the 134 again…
Hit the 114…..
hit the 90…..
hit the 90 again
I hit every shot in for the first 6-7 shots in a row…
Simply put…yea, I think this is gonna work
My crony is the oldest crony in the world..
It is a shooting crony..likely the very first model they ever came out with.
It’s green like the current model, but the on off switch is on the inside rather than the front.
To venture a guess its 70’s or 80″s era vintage. Shooting crony does not even list a parts diagram or have parts for it.
It’s a piece of crap…after 2 hrs of playing with it..it has 1 position that it gets a reading.
thats at 10 yards..with a piece of plastic over it for a diffuser…and a 100watt bulb overhead.
Even then the pellet must hit between 1-3 inches dead center above the pickups.
This was my father in law’s crony, so it is of sentimental value rather than a good crony.
I can do what I need to do with it…take 20 shots..get 18 good reading..and get a good idea..
I shot mine with my 3rd shot. Some honeymoon.
mr newb
i have wounded mine a few times. none fatal
although i did nic the very top of the bottom metal just above the back screen with a 380, bent it up pretty good, but was able to bend all back,,
have hit my sky screen twice, and one of the arms once. all mendable. So your not alone :smilen:
Man! You seem to have a thing against chrony’s  When shooting off my bench, if I dont’ have time to set the chrony up properly, I simply back the bbl. back from it about 15″ and turn the gun on its side and sight down the frame and ldc. Lazy way to do it. But you dont’ have to worry about the scope to bore heigth that way. 😉
Works pretty well for a putting an animal out of it’s missery shot to the head as well. And damed well when you walk up on a Rattle Snake way too damed close! 😯

Sounds good, like RFT!! Maybe a little leed will be next.
Minor update..I’m still working on this project!
Took a bunch of bullets and sized them to all diff sizes. Did not even measure them.
Put them in 5 catagories. Played at 10 yards.
RFT = Real F tight, Real hard to push in with fingers (like Jerry’s slugs), need tool…
RT = Real tight..but can push in with fingers
NF = Nice fit
LL = Little loose
RL = Real loose
I just had to try it for myself..
The RFT and RT..shot the best…hole in hole..with RFT just a bit better.
Measured the RFT at .2220, this is what this barrel wants.
(By the way these American Arrms Bullets measure from .225 to .223 by my cheap calipers)
I still like shooting these with the low power regulated (2200-2300)psi setup..I get 50-60 shots at 750fps out of it.
But I did put on the HiFlow tank setup and was able to actually get a shot string….
950 up to 1030 back to 950fp..for 15 shots at 2800psi start and 1800psi end.
TT’s HiFlow valve stock condor hammer (45gn hammer+20gn weight)
(on a side note..I shot my crony again..took out the screen again. I think I have the worlds record for crony shooting..this is the 5th or 6th time)
LCD screen replaced…again… 😆
Still playing with it….
Huum
i’m wondering if the 22 rifle that you stole the barrel from would shoot any better at 50 yards, your results may be limited to the barrels ability for accuracy.
cool experiment thou, i have some of those north american arm bullets , i bought them to mess around with loading in 222 , and 223 .
I see that CTD is out of stock now, but you can order direct from North American Arms. They are easy to deal with. An old friend runs the place by the name of Sandy Chisom. Don’t know if he still does. Been a long time!
The 750 is too slow for bullets. Kick up the speed to just under ss, and posibley lap the barrel. Keep me in the loop on how it is going if you can. I think it is goig to work just fine!
Yep, make sure your lead in is to the point that when you push the bullet in, that it becomes firm in the last little bit of push into the bbl. Kinda like a cork in a bottled.
Looking forward to your progress! :8:

Maybe cut a lead in and up the speed as much as possible, it could still work…?

Hello –
The only difference between standard 22 rim fire and the 22 magnum rim fire is the case size to allow more powder to be used. The standard 22 has a bullet with a smaller diameter “heel” to fit in a case that is the same diameter as the bullet itself. The 22 magnum bullet is the same diameter and fits inside the larger diameter case.
Of course even with standard 22 rim fire there are variations to this as different manufactures have different ideas as to what bullet size will be more accurate in the barrel. for example:
CCI Stingers and Mini Mag = .2245″
Federal = .2235″
Qwik-Shok = .225″
And if you order Lapula match grade ammo you can specify the diameter you want based on your chamber cut; match or standard. From what I have seen in catalog listings, there are even different pellet diameters in the same caliber to choose.
I guess this just shows there are people with different ideas on how to build a better mouse trap. LOL
Take care
