Q:

Bushnell elite tactical 6×24 x50 g2dmr

Ok, I finally got time to mount and zero my new scope and I’ve gotta say its a huge improvement over my accushot etched glass. I zeroed at about 45 yards ad was hitting 1″ metals spinners at 75 yards within 20min or so. I Ike the scope a lot but I’m afraid I’m going to send it back cause it doesn’t seam to have enough windage hold over. At 75 yards, in a 8 mph wind, I’m having to hold past the number 4 in order to hit it. If jsb ever comes out with the 30 grain pellets or I can get the barracudas to shot better out of this thing it might be enough, but shooting jsb 25 grain pellets at 850fps, its just not enough. Would it help much to bring the gun back to 900fps? I didn’t figure 50fps would make that much difrence.

Also, anyone out there find another chairgun like app that works well? I was thinking there was something out there that had the g2dmr ffp reticle in it but haven’t found anything. I guess for now I can just use chairgun and always tell it the reticle is calibrated at the zoom its at. That would work, right? Thanks.

P.s. its mounted on a matador 25 cal r3m standard.

It’s always sad to hear a man wishing his gun was bigger. I personally have no problem carrying around the extra 6″ all the time.
:-). Longer shot count means more meat to bring home to the wife. Just the way she likes it. ๐Ÿ™‚

I stil haven’t done anything much to my r3standard 25 cause I haven’t convinced myself I wouldn’t rather have a long. Now that I’ve spent some time with it, I noticed I’m always reaching for a little past the end of the hand rail. I’ve got too many other things that need fixed or replaced to buy a second edgun so I’m just stuck for now. Even so, If I was doing to have two matadors, it would be a 25 long and a 22 standard. Neither would be a 25 standard. Don’t get me wrong, its better than any other rifle I’ve ever had I just wish I could of had the money ready when they all came in cause I had ordered a long. They were just all gone 5 days later when I got paid.

It’s the only air rifle I own anymore… so yes, I lug it everywhere I intend on using an air rifle. That includes the barn, 6 hours of squirrel patrol walking through all the orchards on a Sunday afternoon, etc.

Heavy & long is relative… sure it might be heavy and long compared to a Leyla, R3 short, or a Cricket compact, but it is quite short and light compared to one of my Accuracy International powder burners. I’d much rather walk around with the Edgun all afternoon than one of my AI’s.

You guys still dance around this ?? Papa Ville to the rescue – Get a Delta Ti 4.5-30. Superb reticle, very good optics and mechanics, focus down to 20 meters at 30x and down to 10m with around 10x zoom.
Vortex Viper gets spanked in all areas – with a vengeance!

The Deltas are intriguing to me from a features standpoint (great magnification range, 20Y parallax, made at Light Optical Works) but until they offer mil/mil/FFP I won’t be trying one; all of my scopes are mil/mil/FFP and I’m very used to it and changing to anything else at this point makes me slow down and second guess myself. The Delta reticle offerings aren’t my favorite either but they’re certainly better than many others I’ve seen.

Delta’s brand new 3-24 x 56 looks pretty good with the exception of the two mile long elevation & windage knobs…

While I was planning on trying a Delta this year I don’t think I will now being I just picked up a new scope for my .25 R3M… S&B 3-20. No “dancing around” here.

It’s a much better fit on the rifle than the S&B 5-25 I’ve tried in the past; quite a bit smaller & lighter and I really like the 3-20 magnification range. Dialing it down to 3x gives a huge field of view for those close up “inside the barn” shots at night.

That actually is the only reason for that reticle : multiple aiming points.
So it actually is a very good reticule for airgunning. A plain Mil-Dot or even a Duplex would do if one’s dialing the holdover/windage.

Question. Maybe ignorant so forgive me if it is.
Why do you like the g2 reticle if you don’t use the windage hold overs for longer shots? I thought that waste main advantage on the g2. If you are dialing for distance, what is the advantage of it?

I donโ€™t see a supplier of Delta scopes in the United States.

That , of course , is a problem. I thought they may have a US supplier by now.

If you do most of your shooting at 100yds then zero it there and learn to use hold under for close shots.
It’s easier than clicking when hunting and I find using the entire reticle is nice.
You’ll have to spend some time with Chairgun and in field verifying all poi both close and far but man is it worth it.
Then just make up a reticle sheet and tape to your scope for quick reference like I did.
This is an example of mine when it was at 885fps through my Hawke Sidewinder 8-32×56 at 20x with a 95yd zero on center reticle which corresponded to the top mil dot having the 20-42yd first zero crossover with an
appx 1/2″ kill zone.
I worked the program backwards by determining the top mil dot first for the 1/2″ kill zone= 20-42 yard range then each after that.
I’ve since upped gun to 940 fps and redid entire chart and now the top mil is in the 20-47 yd range with 1/2″ kill zone and it’s center zero is now 104yd.
Majority of my hunting is in the 75-125 range so windage hold off is much closer to center mil line.
Just a thought.

Delta = made in Japan by Light Optical Works. They make scopes for Sightron, Bushnell , Clearidge etc.

Ville, I totally agree with you, I like that Delta & especially its reticle, it is really nice and worth every penny, ,,, are they made from Japan? I think yes,,, I can see my next purchased scope will be this one, God Willing, ,, or if my budget will not be able to get this,,, then my 2nd choice will be Falcon FFP,,,

Might want to call Vortex and see if they could readjust the parallax. 50Y minimum parallax is a deal breaker for an air rifle scope IMO as it really causes problems for closer shots; even with the magnification dialed down to bring things more into focus inside of 50Y the parallax is still set for 50Y and there will be parallax issues. IMO for an air rifle parallax capability of 10Y or closer is best, 25Y is still pretty good. Unfortunately it seems the majority of scope manufacturers seem to be stuck on 50Y minimum parallax adjustment…

Back to Vortex… having owned 1 4-16 PST FFP, 2 6-24 PST FFP, and a Razor HD 5-20 with the EBR2 reticle, while the EBR-2 is nice I prefer the Bushnell G2DMR to the EBR-2. Just my opinion & experience though.

While it’s on an entirely different application, I have my reservations about the durability of the PSTs having killed 2 6-24 FFP PSTs with less than 10 shots on a .338 remington ultra mag hunting rifle. Both scopes suffered detached reticles after a few rounds and had to go back for service. A precharged air rifle is a much easier ride for them though. ๐Ÿ˜€

I’ve owned 8 Bushnells over the years (Elite 4200 6-24 AO, Elite 4200 6-24 SF, HDMR 3.5-21, XRS 4.5-30, 2x 3-12 x 44 FFP mil dot, 2x 3-12 x 44 FFP G2DMR) and haven’t had a problem with any of them. They’ve really been stepping up their game in the last 3 years or so.

I have a pair of the new Bushnell 3-12 x 44 FFP LRHS on order to try on my 10/22 and a lightweight hunting rifle, they look like they’re going to be great scopes. 10 mil elevation knob, zero stop, good reticle (G2DMR variant), FFP/mil/mil, 7Y parallax capability, pretty compact & light, and reportedly very good glass. A 4-16 x 50 version is supposed to follow later this year; both would be great air rifle scopes IMO.

I would prefer the Vortex Viper PST 6-24×50 FFP Riflescope over Bushnell but the minimum focus is 50 yards for the Viper ๐Ÿ˜ฅ , and 25 yard minimum focus for the Bushnell.
