The OFFICIAL Cricket Chrony thread

Hi Cricket folks! I’m starting a thread here so we can all share our chrony strings. I’m doing to this to see if my regulator is ‘acceptable’ as is or need to be tuned. This is for the sole purpose of seeing how consistance the regulator is and not how efficient. This mean I only care about the standard deviation and not shot count! What I’m looking for is at least a magazine of shots (14 for .22, 12 for .25). Also please tell us your starting pressure and if you know the ending pressure. You don’t have to shoot until you’re off the reg. If you know how to calculate the standard deviation and averages please include that. To keep it short, please list your string on a single line like this: 880, 882, 880, 878, 883, etc.

the nylon tip set screw came in today and it worked great. Once you screw it in, it formed a little ball shape at the end. You don’t have to tighten it so much, a little pressure and it shut all the air. If anybody interested the website is below:

I ordered the stainless steel version thinking that it is stronger than regular steel, but after a quick research it’s the opposite. So you don’t need the stainless version (which cost twice as much). I also would get the 6mm length instead of the 5mm.

I’m glad that’s working for you. I wanted to try a rubber ball, but just decided to take dman114 advice. I have ordered a nylon tip set screw from McMaster. I have to buy a pack of 5 but that’s ok, it’s only $2 each. Anybody interested in one PM me and I can sell for cheap. I’m going to keep two extra, so I’m only selling two.

I fixed mine with just taking a small punch the size of the set screw. Look for something like a plastic lid and punch hole with punch on a piece of wood. Just trim it down to fit hole and leak goes away

dman, you were right! I decided to remove the pressure tube and dunk it in the water. No leaks, except from the bleed set screw. I’m not sure but I think it might have got damaged by tightening it too tight? I think there was too much pressure on the ball bearing inside and it deformed either the ball bearing itself or the small hole it’s supposed to cover. I’m going to try one more time and if it leaks I’m going to order that nylon tip set screw.

it leaked because its a shitty design. It was as tight as i could get it before stripping the hex for the allen wrench…. it was pretty dam tight and it still wouldn’t seal

I had to drill it and remove it with an easy out.

not a issue though. cause the nylon tip screw i feel is better….. when i told ernest about it he had said that others have had the same issue.

so did it leak because you lost the ball bearing, or because it wasn’t just sealing right.

As for the dimension, I looked up the schematics and it’s M4x5 DIN 916, whatever that means.

You take the ball bearing and the set screw out and replace it with the nylon tip one. then it doesn’t have to be tighter up so much to stop it from leaking and can be easily backed out to bleed if need be.

Plus they are not as soft as the cricket bleed screw.

I sent my gun to ernest for a tune and he installed it.

Maybe Ernest can chime in on the exact size of the set screws…

Thanks for the heads up. I’m just going to wait overnight to see if I lose any pressure. If I do, then I will try the windex. I did take the bleeding screw completely off to see what’s inside. Not sure if it’s a ball or not, but it looks metallic…

My Cricket 22 cal standard shooting JSB 18 grain at 880 fps, at first got an SD of 7.48 with 4 mags about a 2 bar / shot efficiency.

Mines improved after 800 shots at that time the SD was about 2 and the average 880 fps with 4 mags.

The reg is still breaking in at 1120 shots now SD is 1.74 with 4 mags with 1.4 bars / shot efficiency. So far till now all I did was adjust the HST with Ernest Rowe methods he gave me.

that’s good to know it will get better. what I don’t understand is how the regulator “break in”. So if I opened up the regulator it has to be broken in all over again??

Could you tell me what HST method Ernest gave you and nobody else? :whistle:

Not to be redundant but:
Break in is a general term and all guns need to some extent as a whole, from the barrel to the trigger. As for the Crickets anywhere from 500-2,000 shots the last I heard.

I would think the reg will continue to break in or seat in where it left off assuming it was not altered in anyway, like polishing it. But it was mention to you on one of your previous post here

GKU: Then would it not stand to reason that one should not tune his gun until after the break in is complete?
