Q:

Anyone use Lube?

……for your pellets

I am curious to see how a light coating of Napier power lube on the JSB’s will perform in the cricket bore. Has anyone tried it? Findings? It seems the ag community is kinda divided over lubing pellets, some say it always increases accuracy while others say it does nothing. I’m skeptical but still plan to shoot some groups tomorrow morning with and without lube, I will post my results here for those who are curious. Let me know what you guys think, cheers

On my cricket .22 I have to clean barrel after 100 shot otherwise accuracy suffer.

Congrats on the new toy. See how long it will go before you lose accuracy. I totally understand wanting to play with the gun. It’s like being 14 on steroids.

I was cleaning it after 60 shots because it was dark preventing me from shooting it but being a new toy I couldn’t just put it down either :biggrinn: accuracy is spot on at 70y I played with the speed today to find a good spread so it’s now had around 100 shots without being cleaned, will check accuracy and see if it has made a difference, I guess I need to buy some more patches!!

It’s a .22 btw @ 862 fps – 6fps spread over around 20 shots.. jsb heavies

Doubletap, is your Cricket a .25? The .25s seem to get “dirty” quicker when compared to smaller calibers. Sometimes the barrels of the Kalibrgun are not as smooth as they should be. This can cause your barrel to lead in a shorter amount of shots. Ernest can polish the barrels for you if it is a problem. The real question is how’s the accuracy? Why are you cleaning your barrel? Is your Cricket losing accuracy after 60 shots? There is a great debate amongst airheads on when to clean an air rifle’s barrel. Most experts feel a little lead in the barrel acts like lube and it helps accuracy. The largest consensus is to only clean your barrel when you notice decreased accuracy or a major POI shift. In other words, the lead may not be a problem until it’s a problem. My 25s will go somewhere between 250 and 300 shots before I notice the MOA open on my target. Some .177s I own can go 1000’s before the lead is a problem. Most of my .22 need to be cleaned once every 500 rounds.

I searched and couldn’t find my answer so I will post it here, I recently got my cricket and properly cleaned the barrel then….having fired 60 shots cleaned it again only to find it was filthy? Shot another 60 and found it was dirty again, takes about 10 patches to get it clear. Is this normal as I only have a Bowkett tuned s10 full length for comparison and that takes maybe 3 patches every 100 shots but with cleaned and lubed pellets. I suppose I am asking if the dirt I find in the cricket is off the jsb heavies or is there something Ells it could be?
Hope someone can help
Thanks

You got it Wing….the one any only time….

Was this that momentous occasion in history when Ville was right that some still speak of?

Try the Patch Worm. Sir Ville turned me on to them and they work great! He even turns me on………..

I use a crown saver from Mac1 and patches. I insert straw to get past baffles. I clean my barrels every 250 to 300 shots. 3 patches usually does the trick. But I did polish my barrels. I use hopps for 2 patches then cpl on the last one.

The best way to clean is use one of these

ok…how to clean? their doesn’t seem to be much space at the point of where you load the pellets….thanks

Damn right!

Cleaning pellets are a cash cow for dealers! It’s a lazy man’s way to remove loose chunks, not embedded lead, from a barrel. If you want a clean barrel, use a cleaning kit and do it right. Those rifling grooves are not deep, but are sharply cut into the metal, and no cloth pellet is going to remove the micro-particles of lead from the microscopic scoring present in all barrels.

A clean barrel does make a difference…to those who can tell the difference.

Hoot:

I have tried the cleaning pellets and I have found that cleaning the Cricket more efficient when I use a patch with a mild oil like MP-5 Metalophilic. There is no way to remove all the water from compressed air unless you use nitrogen to fill your gun. Because of this I feel more comfortable using a rust inhibitor when I clean the gun’s barrel. I use fishing line with the pull through method on a clean non-lint patch.
