R3M Short?
Reading Ed’s prior post, it sounds like an R3M Short only comes in .22 and not available in .177? It also seems like an R3M Short .22 is pretty rare in the states and I’ve only seen RidetoEat post about his. It’s more rare than a Cricket Compact. Just wondering how long has the R3M been available since I’ve never seen a used on for sale on the Yellow or here or anywhere for that matter?

Larry, I am still using the Freedom 8 I bought when I started out and am quite satisfied.
Ride, thanks for the review, it,s aways great to have options. I recall in the past you were looking into a compressor, did you upgrade your air system.
I know Donny and Secoda opted for the Omega. The general feedback has been good to this point on the Omega and it seems to have the best support in the stand alone units. The Lelya is probably easy to fill with a hand pump and would save everyone 2k for a compressor. I sound like a government economist. Another vote for the Lelya.

Smoke em if ya got em!
+1 for my guns – Compact Cricket in .177.
Edgun short vs Cricket compact, which was the better buy factoring cost/value vs performance? Funny we’re envying the guy with the smallest guns.

This is an EDIT: After writing all that, posting and then re-reading your actual question, the simple answer to cost, performance and value is actually simple, the answer is Cricket Compact. Since I just spent an hour typing I will leave my detailed thoughts below. :biggrinn:

Between the Edgun short and the Cricket compact, I am forever undecided. Edgun is built more robust and seems like noticeably finer quality and gets more shots per. fill as it is more efficient. The Cricket compact shoots at least as good in terms of accuracy, no doubt. The Cricket multishot works better in my opinon and it costs a good bit less, but he compact is no longer available. So, if you want a new compact 22 gun, Go for the Edgun because Tony has 1 in stock as of now. If used is what your looking for, wait for either to come available. Air guns are heavy by nature so smaller is always better in for my purposes as I never have a need for maximum shot count.
Just as a very unofficial and non conclusive comparison I done the following last year. It ended up being nonconclusive and meaningless but maybe fun to read as it testifies to the greatness of both guns on any given day.
I took both to the range last fall for a comparison shoot but forgot my hearing protection. The range was empty but another guy arrived at the same time and he was going to have a blast fest with an AR and an AK but he staggered his start time and give me a 10 minute head start so I could shoot a few rounds before I had to left. It was going to be a brief deal either way as I had little time on a lunch hour and no replacement air. Just intended to get a few warm up shots on each and throw down 2 or 3 (5) shot groups. As it turned out I got 5 practice shots with the Ed and then (1) 5 shot group, it was a 1.5″ at 100 yards. I laid it down and picked up the Cricket and shot 1 (5) shot group at 1.300″ at the same 100 yards. Conditions sucked as they had gotten rid of the shooting bench height chairs and only had these little 12″ tall baby stools, WTF !!……….I had to double my foot under my ass and sit on my own ankle to get a decent cheek weld. Just saying it was rushed and conditions were poor. Obviously nothing can be drawn from this other than both guns are amazing. The Edgun was fairly new at the time and had less than 500 rounds through it and they are known for getting better over time for sure. The Cricket was Ernest tuned and I had shot it less than 500 as well but they are known to be good out of the box when new with little break in. Grouping since is always comparable to the best I can tell.
If I had to make a snap decision on selling one of them, I would……………………………………….just crap my pants since I love both. I have said before that if you are trying to decide, the differences stated above are what sets them a little bit apart. The only real factor is that if you want multishot the Cricket works better in my opinion. I love shooting single load off a bench so the Edgun is my favorite for that. Mine is actually an R3M converted to an R3 by me and it is neat that the Edguns can be swapped back and fourth. Other than the bench shooting I usually grab my Cricket compact for a bird shot out the window or to walk out the door an take a few shots for fun. Since I got the Lelya 22 recently I have not shot either since.
It is a touchy subject as there is lovers of both brands but I think it is clear that if a stranger, say a powder burner friend for an example, were to be handed each gun for a moment to look at and inspect and then be asked which is higher quality they would generally agree that the Edgun looks like it was finely crafted and the Cricket is a little more mass produced and I guess this is true and accounts for the price difference. Some of it is the robust machine work on the Edgun and the absence of that tin cover over the mechanics on the cricket, also some of the difference is the wood finish on the stock as the cricket it less prepared before the medium gloss clear coat is added and it draws down into the porous of the wood and looks kind of pock marked to me and unlike finely made firearms. The Edgun is very smooth due the it’s hand rubbed low gloss finish. The cricket is immeadiately identifiable as a pellet gun and the Edgun would give the impression it was a 22 rimfire if you did not know better. ( that damn tin cover again )
I guess this is more than anyone asked for but since I love both guns and it is often hard to find detailed descriptions of the differences between them I just thought I would give it a go here for it to be part of this thread.
One last comment and thought, the Cricket in my picture is actually my 177, size is identical to the 22, and I do not like the bulldog stock on it. The skeleton stock that has historically been available is much better looking and feeling to me !!! It is the most preferred to hold in my hand as compared to the Edgun or the Cricket bulldog. I have fat chunky hands and a size 13 ring finger, that cannot palm a basketball. Larger hands with more reach in the fingers could easily feel the opposite on the preferred grip.
Doug…
The Lelya looks tiny!

Will you take 20$ and let me play with her for the hour? No rough stuff of course.. unless thats extra. :biggrinn:
 You think Hoot: is a bit too short for her liking? :butkick: She is nearly like dwarf porn. (er ah Donny explained dwarf porn to me) 😛
Fear not Hoot, she is quite the little whore and loves being manhandled and used for what she is good for, very easy to wrap your hands around and get a good hold while sliding here slide in and out and tripping her trigger, she loves every minute of it and preforms at a very high level ….. 😆
Filthy Animal…I’m sickened by the very thought of your thick, grubby, ox-like hands touching that petite body :angrymob:
Warmest regards, (may you burn in hell…)
Kindly ‘Ol Uncle Hoot:
Here is Leyla wearing her new March scope. This is the first time for me any way of spending significantly more money for a scope than the gun it went on but this scope is incredible and what a fitting match for this air rifle. Talk about putting your girl up on a pedestal !! Leyla is aptly named as a female and has the expensive taste to go along with it.

Here is the comparison of the 3…

And by the way Hoot, that does not mean you have 59 minutes to have your disgusting way with my dearest leyla….!!!
You know I can’t get to your house from here in one hour!!!
But…if I could, she would be all sticky and funny smelling when you got home….just saying is all….just saying :suprisedn:
Hoot:
I will do it when I get home in an hour !!
And by the way Hoot, that does not mean you have 59 minutes to have your disgusting way with my dearest lelya….!!!
How about some pics of them together? Better yet, throw in a Cricket Compact while you’re at it!

I bought the Omega because I also have the original Shoebox and it sped the top off up by about 500% and is much much quieter. I think for a Freedom 8 user the boost is only about 300% and it is quieter than the original so it is likely not worth the upgrade unless you need the portability, etc. The Omega really can be shared. It seems so fast that I hardly run it like I did the Shoebox. About five times less. 😆
Spending $4k on a commercial compressor is ridiculous unless you have money to burn, need it for other purposes, or sell air which is another can of worms. 😳
