Condor With Smooth Twist Barrel
I just finished up this project. It is an old school Condor fully tricked out with FX Smooth Twist barrel.
I am very impressed with the accuracy of this rifle.
Wokguard, custom trigger shoe, TTTA and tank cover….
Barrel was machined, custom bushings made and Cerakoted….
Rifle was shooting 1100 FPS with 18grn. JSB exacts. We had to use our QCTH with large insert to bring it down to 975 FPS.
Here are two groups shot at 55 yards with minimal effort….
Again, could not be happier with the performance.

Congrats Caboose, don’t let that little loss of length put you off. Even with an 18″ barrel you could push the Kings over 1000fps.
Show us some groups as soon as you’re sorted.
I GOT MY .25 SMOOTH TWIST!! But be warned: It’s less than 24″, it’s 23″ and some change… weird.

:rofl: I’ve been wanting to do the same thing- but I need a place to put the damn lathe!!! I also want to get a mill! I’m going to have Tony do the install on my barrel, as soon as it gets here. I cannot wait!! There’s still a lot to do to the rifle though. But I’ll definitely post pics here when I’m done w/her!
Haha thanx Caboose, I got tired of waiting for engineers to turn my barrels so I bought my lathe about a month ago. Things are going much smoother now.

Toad, I do all my own machining. All my 24″ Airforce barrels have been shortened to 18″ and I’ve kept one of the breech sections. Whenever an Airforce rifle comes in for tuning, I give the option to shorten the frame and barrel-i copy the breech section onto the shortened barrel.
I don’t have any machining pics but the pic below gives you an idea of the normal length and the length after with 18″ smooth twist barrel.
And here she is after her make-over, she is now a long range precision rifle that can stand her ground against any Daystate, Theoben, etc.
Toad Monster: Did that answer your questions? Not a lot of people have done the conversion- really cost prohibitive. I just paid what, $240 for a .25 ST shipped? That’s a fuck-ton of cash for a barrel that also needs to be machined and fitted to the frame with bushings. Most people that have done the conversion are tuners like Tony here, or they have the skill to make the bushings needed, and machining down the breech side of the barrel. I’m sure there’s a bit more, but really, there’s not that much to it other than that. You’re not going to see a lot of pictures, because that’s just giving away trade secrets, honestly.

It was Tony that did the machining. He machined the breech area, and made the bushings to mount the barrel into the frame. As far as price- other than the cost of the Smooth Twist barrel (which is $220), you’ll have to PM Tony, since he was the one that did it.
Ok I’ve heard of smooth twist barrels fitted several times. However every time it just like “I have a smooth twist in my condor, wow it shoots great… Yea for me!!” Never any details. I just ask for a little. Like who did the machineing to get it to fit the condor? was it you or a gun smith? If it was you was it hard to do? if you paid someone to do it, how much did it cost? And maybe a few pictures of the process if you have them if not, then after the process pictures will work.
I know their has got to be more to it then just buying the smooth twist and slapping it in the condor.

I’m very lucky to have a smooth twist barrel in my Condor .22, it is insanely accurate. I’ve never had so many sub 1″ groups @ 110yrds as I’ve had since fitting this barrel.
Below is a 55yrd group, the only target I could find was a metal table in the vineyard. On paper it would’ve been 5 shots through the same hole. The brilliant thing is that similar groups are repeatable-provided there’s no wind.
