Lelya in 177 or 22?
From what I’ve read, there is no different in fps in either caliber which should mean the 22 delivers the same flat trajectory as the 177 but with more down range power. Anyone have any real world experience with these in both calibers? Normally I’d just get 22 but read somewhere (probably here) that the Lelya is a pistol turned small bullpup form and doesn’t have the longevity in 22 that it would in 177.

Interesting discussion! For every Leyla shooter there will be a caliber to meet his/her/its needs!
Ed has never, ever, released an under-powered, inaccurate, bullpup. Anyone who has owned one has had no complaints on power and accuracy. Granted there was a small glitch that allowed the breech to spring back a fraction of an inch when fired. There was a work-around on that, and Ed indicated he was going to incorporate an adjustment feature in the new Leyla to correct this problem if it occurs in the new gun.
He sets the velocities at that point which delivers adequate power and maximum accuracy. They have all been adjustable up or down for fps/fpe in the past. I see no reason that will not be the case in the new, improved Leylas.
For years I shot a .177 springer at 700 fps, and killed everything I managed to hit. There’s plenty of power there to get the job done at the velocities Ed is incorporating into all four calibers, and accuracy is a given.
I chose the .25 caliber because I believe it will do the best job for my type of shooting. I’m not worried about shot count because the air cylinder is tiny and refill will not be a big problem for me. 30 FPE is adequate to take down almost any critter short of bear, elk, or deer. If I have a head shot, I’ll pop a deer, coyote, or a hog, in a heartbeat with a Leyla.
I doubt anyone will be disappointed. Remember, the beauty of this particular pcp is it’s tiny size, and nothing on the market will be it’s equal in accuracy, power, or looks. It is truly unique.

Calil I ordered a 20 for the Leyla. The .20 seems like the perfect balance between speed and foot pounds
It’s an EDGUN. It is super ultra mega power accurate in ANY caliber. Go for your preferred!! I don’t like anything smaller then the .22, and you?
I went through this. I decided to order a Lelya in 22. My first pick would have been a 25 but not enough power for me in this cal and the shot count was on the low side. I like the bigger choices in 22 cal. If I was only going to be using it to plink then I would have gotten it in 177, but I might use it to shoot a starling once in a while.
I think it’s simple to decide:
Target only? .22
Target and hunting? .22
😆
Why would you buy a new Lelya 22 and sell your old one? was there a model change?
Awny
I am very picky, and The two new guns will match with walnut stocks…
It has been advertised for more than a month…
You should probably just sell that .177 to me then since the poor thing never gets used 😎

I like the larger knock down power with the .22 I have the .22 lelya and ordered a new 22 and 25 as a result. Having matched cricket compacts in 177 and 22 I can say I always grab the 22. even for birds the 22 is a more confident quick clean kill…
Ed did say which pellets he was using in this post.
I had a hard time deciding which caliber; I ended up going for the .22 because I thought it was a good compromise between shot count and power. Plus you can always use a lighter or heavier pellet if you want more or less power.
Thanks Piter and Elmer. I didn’t think you could modify or add on an LDC. Has that changed?
These are the numbers from Ed himself. He didn’t specify which exact pellets but I assume it’s the same across all these specs. I’m going with a .22. Seems like good power down range and lots of pellet selection. Can’t comment on the loudness but it can be tuned down and hopefully still make 20 FPE and add a larger LDC for sound. My reasoning is, even if a .177 can be tuned up for more power or use heavier pellets, it’s still a small pellet that might pass through small game like birds.

Dear Mrs. Sushi,
If you got the balls to stalk one, and get close enough for either a head, or nutt shot…I guarantee you will bring it to it’s knees. You may have to finish it off with a sharp knife, but 30 fpe in either eye, or one nutt, will, at the very least, get you close enough to go “Mano a mano” !
As a lad, I used to hunt these, and other dangerous creatures, with a Springer .177, but then….you are not me! I am not you! And…and…others are not us! Nor are we them!
Ah shit…now I’m confused. Damn your eyes!!! Why did you have to bring it up? :angrymob: ……Any Leyla caliber will put your eye out kid! Isn’t that enough?
