25 and 22 clean barrel . POI OFF
We all know the 25 likes the barrel clean, And I try to clean my 25 after every tin of 350 JSBs , I like shooting and am a little lax on the number,,,,
My 22 is a little less picky and I have never had to clean it for accuracy , I just do it after a lot of shots ,,,,
Now the QUESTION is the 22 will got back to zero after cleaning POI after a few shots maybe 10 to 15,,,
On the 25 I may have to make some minor adjustment to the scope to bring it back to zero POI….
My 22 has a Hawke sidewinder 30 4 x 16 x 50 that is a very good scope
My 25 has a viper 6x24x56 scope that is a very very good scope that I really like.
So long story short I can clean the 22 and stick it out the window and pop a sparrow , On the 25 I have to site it back in after a cleaning ????
I am sure its nothing and everyone else with a 22 and a 25 have the same thing,
Mike

The barrel should be .5mm off of the receiver assembly barrel hole.
From Ernest,
“With action in the stock and AT at 180 bar, loosen all 4 hex bolts till loose, turn down all bolt to it bottoms out on it’s shoulders. Pull barrel off the action about 2″ and slowly insert back, a properly aligned barrel will have an even clearance entering the action with an even O-ring compression. If miss aligned the barrel will hit the lip of the action then you force the barrel in, now the barrel has more metal contact on one side and is more subject to POI change.”
Place alignment screw in place making sure it bottoms out into the shallow hole on the barrel.
Back out the alignment screw by 3/4 turn CCW.
Pull barrel forward and lightly tighten the hex bolt closest to the receiver first, this will give you that .5mm clearance needed.
Remove alignment screw and apply a criss-cross tighten sequence to about 10-12 in-Lb.
The even torqueing will minimize the horizontal shifting.

Interesting reads ….. … .. more info on POI shift with Extreme Temperatures and maybe related to Barrel Pulling.

GKU, what do you have inside LDC? Are these vent holes really needed?
Ok, thanks alot for the advice guys! Really helpfull. My barrel is completely standard. I will first try the masking tape test, because te dealer told me the warranty expires when i start fiddling (taking the barrel off) with the gun myself… If the pellet does seem to get close to the endcap, i will send it in again and maybe they will give me another one or replace the barrel.. Too bad because i really like the gun when its shooting good. Even at 100m its still pretty accurate!
Grtz,
Matt

Yes, it works I use it to test out my LDC that I make. This LDC is back and forward ported to maximize the accuracy ! No sound (nos) from muzzle, just the sizzling of the pellet coming out of it. Sorry, not for sale !

Place masking tape on and push it on firmly with your thumb to make it indent inwards a little. Mark the hole out line it carefully with a pencil. Load up and fire once, remove it and tape it down on something it will show how center the bore is in relevant to the shroud.
On my .177 compact I used wad cutters.

Does the masking tape thing work. Would it not blow the tape off right from the get go. My 25 cricket is clipping again

I didn’t polish any of my cricket barrels yet and don’t experience any POI change or shifting after cleaning.
Matt,
How can it be normal, there would be a major recall. It shouldn’t clip at all period, maybe an issue with the shroud try cleaning and shooting with it off if you can, ware ear plugs. Also it doesn’t need to actually make contact with the cap or internals to change the POI, just coming to close to one side compared to the other will push the pellet off course.
You could also test by placing a piece masking tape on the cap hole and fire a pellet through to check if it’s on center with your bore.

I have polished both my 25 and 22 barrels on crickets and don’t get any poi shift at all after cleaning . I can fire on poi in one or two shots

I was thinking the same thing shooter. Matt have you lapped your barrel or is it still factory?
First of all, examine the interior of your barrel. Just have a look: http://talonairgun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=29455
Hey guys, I’m Matt and i’m from Belgium (hence the username). I own a .25 cricket bullpup second generation (with the wide clamps) with a bushnell elite 3-12 g2 scope on top of it.
I really like the rifle but i have been experiencing the same problem. When i clean my barrel the gun will shoot very inaccurate for the first 20-25 shots, then for the next 30-40 shot the POI will be off for about 1 or 2 inches at 45 yards. Its only after about 60 or 70 shots in total that the rifle will shoot accurate and normal again. And about a 100 (very accurate) shots later its time to clean the barrel again because the POI starts to wander… The POI change is vertical and has nothing to do with pressure in the tube. It’s only affected bij the cleansiness of the barrel. I also see some very small lead marks on the endcap from the shroud sometimes. I send the gun back to the shop twice, thinking it was the pellet hittig the cap lightly, but they keep saying there’s nothing wrong with it.. Is this a problem or is it normal?
In my opninion, the barrel is too rough and when the ‘leading’ is not optimal, the pellet starts to hit the endcap slightly, changing the POI.
Lets heer some opinions.
Thanks in advance,
Matt
This will help minimize the Vertical shifting.

Not sure about the lapping of the barrels, Both were tuned by earnest,,,
I am going to check and make a note on which way the 25 is shooting, That way I can see for sure each it how far its off ,
I do something a little different , My last patch is with a very little dab of Dri Slide grease,,,
So mine is the only 25 that does this?
I will double check and make sure everything is snug,
Mike
I only take barrel off gun the very first time I do a major first clean and polish. After that 3 patches after 200-300 shots will keep it nice and clean. Or leave barrel on and remove back block if you don’t want to mess with the way it’s bolted to clamps. Although I’d recommend checking if the barrel is pushed in to the point where it’s bottoming out on block

How are you cleaning your barrels?
If are are taking them off the gun, then maybe the 25 needs a different torque sequence on the bolts.

In my limited experience, accuracy went bad after the first tin of pellets (350). I removed the shroud and cleaned it from the muzzle (horrors) using a coated rod and a 6mm brass jag. I wanted complete positive pressure against all bore surfaces which you don’t get with those pull through thingies. I used Ballistol on double patches. The first one had a lot of lead particles on it. Then I polished the bore with JB paste. More patches with Ballistol then dry patches. First few shots were a bit off, but then it settled in.
