HST adjustment / stock regulator setting

I’ll try and keep my story brief. I disassembled my Edguns .22 trigger kit, polished the sears and all. After assembling everything I was getting around 720 fps with JSB 18gr. I went a head and increased the HST to 900 and here are my results. The rifle has taken 500 shots. I was told the rotor orings in the regulator are failing. I have since ordered a degassing tool and regulator setter tester. Just trying to see if I can do anything in the meantime to correct this with the current 130bar manufacture setting.

I have also read that the best results is to set the reg 120bar and 880-890fps.

Just curious as to how some are only getting a widespread of 4 fps?

Just wanted to offer an alternative solution to the same dilemma, per my experience with my 1st Edgun. New .25 R3M Long…started with a relatively consistent shot string but by shot 800, the same bell curve appeared and the ES went to shit. I suspected exactly what other’s have referenced, with the rotor o rings. I simply notified Tony R. and the gun, minus the stock, was on it’s way back to him and a new one received, over the term of less than 2 weeks. Was actually a nice break while I worked with another air rifle, which resulted in shooting a hole through my buddies exterior door and soffit. 😳 Got myself a slightly used door and my buddy got a new PCP. :whistle:

I guess the side note here is, Tony is a class act! He fully stands behind the product and seems to treat customer satisfaction as a priority. I’ve been missing in action, from the forum, because of this. I now have 800 shots through the new gun and all is in order. Thanks Tony! Gong to start tuning after another tin and installation of my “new” rear patio door.

This is probably a dumb question. Are you saying that when you have the HST set at 1/2 turn back from max velocity you leave the HST alone and just use reg adjustments to get you to the desired velocity? I always assumed that once you adjust the Reg you have to reset the HST every time.

Yes sorry that did read badly, You have to back the HST off again with each reg adjustment and bring it slowly back up to its max. I find 1/2 a turn back from max is best once you have your desired velocity with the reg setting.

Replaced 1 & 2 and all good now. Well almost but definitely by far better than my previous issue. I’m ecstatic with this string! Crazy right? I can hone the regulator once my tester arrives. I guess I can mess with the HST in the meantime :mrgreen: Any tips now, welcome.

Here’s a important tip to let you know that the rotor o-rings (1 & 2) have been shot. At least for my issue.
Every time I reassembled the rifle (during my delemma) I never cocked the hammer when filling from 0 psi and the tube would fill fine. This is where Wingman mentioned the o-rings would be sticking and indeed they were as the hammer wasn’t able to depress the valve. However, once I replaced the rotor o-rings, when I went to fill I noticed air leaking and couldn’t pin point the problem. Thinking it was the gauge, I removed it and fiddled with the screw on the back. I found out that was a mistake and interfered with the gauge reading, but I’ll have to figure out how to calibrate that later. Back to the leak, I remembered to cock the hammer and it filled perfectly this time.

From what I understand, every time you adjust the regulator, you wind the HST out and then chrony while turning the HST in to find the max velocity (most efficient velocity) for that regulator setting. You would repeat this process of finding the max velocity after making each regulator adjustment until you have your desired velocity.

Meters per second – metric units rather than imperial units.

I will say that OG emailed me this “The rotor oring are failing in the reg.” Didn’t really know what he meant but now it makes sense.

Yes, you need to wait for the tester. Please be patient and it will pay off. There is no use utilizing pellets. Right now it is a guess game.

BTW could you include the graph in mps metric? I am the most familiar with that.

Just tried backing off the HST 1/4 and the numbers were all over the place. It seems consistent the first 5 shots than ramps up or down? This is driving me nuts. I finally went ahead and decided to decrease the regulator by 1/3 and the same results, maybe worse. Started of at 200 bar and was getting 890’s then it started bouncing, by the time I got to shot 30 it was down to 690 fps WTF!!!!! I guess I’ll just have to wait and be patient for John to send the regulator tester so I can start ruling out 1 shit at a time.

you’re stepping on your sweet spot with this latest test result. Were it me (and I’m assuming you want the most predictable accuracy, lowest Es and Sd), from looking at your information I’d first lower the start fill pressure until the first shots were recording in the mid 880s, then I’d stop shooting once the fps fell to the low 880s. Your spread is going to hell in the low 870s. So once you see the low 880s on your chronograph, stop, and check the remaining pressure in the gun. In other words, your last two shots at 874 and 870 should be tossed out. That method works best for a non-regulated PCP. Changed all the outer orings on the regulator and the gauge then shot this string. Still getting a wide spread? 🙁
