Summer project
Hey everybody, so I am thinking about starting my first custom condor. Things I want it to be able to do: ~3 inch groups around 150 yards, knock down song dogs past 100 yards, shoot slugs at the given accuracy at said yards. What is needed to do these things? Should I be looking at a different platform? I would like the gun to be a .25 but if someother caliber (.257, .308, mid-bore etc.) would be easier to build i would change the plan. What do you think?

Alright, I’ll talk to them!
Either way! Talk to Tony and Randy! They’ll set you up correctly. Just tell them exactly what you want and need the gun to do!

I might order some and see how they do out of my ss. I have an extra hammer weight that I somehow forgot to put back the first time I took the gun apart(ended up sending my gun back to AF in Texas, hey replaced the internals, and sent it back), so they should help with holding the valve open a little longer. What valve should I look at ordering for a long range .25? Something from talon tunes or R&L I assume?
Mods include extreme valve, heavy brass breech, heavy hammer ( with hammer weight), heavy hammer spring, Tony’s top hat (wide open), fully polished internals + all the usual add ons ( shroud, etc.)!

Thanks!!
Yup! Those are the ones! I’m shooting a choked LW barrel and these things fly perfectly straight. Of course, there is an amount of holdover involved at distance but they are devastating.
A while back, I posted some photos in the general chat section titled ” black mamba’s vs cast iron frying pan. I was able to recover one and was pleasantly surprised at just how evenly the slug collapsed upon itself. That tells me there is absolutely NO tumbling. I believe that thread is now on page #10 of that section.
I can group them ” touching” at 80yards. Beyond 80, they open up just a little. 1 1/2″ at 100 yards.
My rig is set up on the pretty high power end of the scale but even a bone stock Condor will move these slugs with enough velocity to drop a dog at distance.

Well, I would be outside shooting, if it weren’t raining!!!, :sadn: 😐
Wildfire, what mods have you done to your gun? I talked with Jerry sometime back about the mambas, and he recomended modding some of the internals to shoot them with enough power. Do you need an unchoked barrel to shoot slugs also? I know some say the only thing to shoot out choked barrels is pellets, but others have shot slugs fine from their choked barrels, so I’m not sure if I should get a different barrel, or keep the factory LW barrel.
Hey Wildfire, are those the ones that are in the banner ad at the top of the forum page? Do they group well? Fly straight? They sure don’t look very aerodynamic… I may have to try these out.
Thanks!!
I shoot 7ring “Black Mamba’s” out of my .25 Talon-Dor @ 900fps. That’s 127.73 ft/lbs of kinetic energy (at the muzzle)!
Last coyote I killed was about 80 yards out. Double lunged her and she went MAYBE 10 yards.
Best sources for slugs are Jerry or Tony at Talon Tunes!

Mine is an SS as well. Have you tried any of the slugs yet? I’ve seen rat sniper post and mr. hollow point, but i don’t know anything about their products. Wonder if they’d shoot well in these Condors??
Right now I fill to 3000 psi and put the power wheel at the highest level. I shoot eunjins 45 grain .25 out to 110 yards in my yard. I can hit a tennis ball pretty regularly(7/10 shots atleast) (tennis ball is the best sized object I have that resembles a coyotes brain cavity). I’m yet to hit something living with it, but I’m hoping it willkill a coyote at 100 yards. I will do some chrony testing today, and hopefully get results on trajectory and energy tonight for you guys. I’m shooting from an 18″ barrel in an ss by the way.
Not sure what MAX power would look like. I Have the Talon Tunes hammer with slap mod and the TTQCTH in mine. When I put the .25 barrel on it, with a 2800 psi fill and shooting town to 2000 or so, I get 950 to 920 fps for about 30 or more shots with the power wheel set at 4-0 to 4-4. Be pretty cool to get some slugs and let ‘er rip to see. Oh yea, I have the large insert in the top hat… So I could go up in pressure some, remove the insert and increase the HST. At the settings above, any further increase in power seems to send the JSB Kings (25.4) spiraling. As long as I stay below 950 fps they fly pretty good.
Would doubling the hammer weight and adding a tt tophat without the inserts installed help? What kind of velocity jump sould I expect to see from that mod?
Man, keep us posted on this project! Heck, if the .25 can generate that kind of power with accuracy, I may play with my .25 barrel a bit too. Never shot any slugs… You folks who have used slugs, can you post up info on sources of good ones/sizes, etc.?

Yesterday evening I sighted in at 85 yards with the 43gr eunjin pellets. They seemed to group pretty well, but occasionally there was a flyer. I couldn’t stretch it all the way to 100, because the pastures were just irrigated. I will try out to 100 when the fields are dry, or if I go to the range.
