JSB rant
I shoot Kings out of my Cricket. I get the fliers and attribute it to something.
Reading about the Speedy Pellet Inspector I had to have two. .177 and .25.
Last week I shot the Cricket and a mag or two from the new tin. The SPI arrived and tonight I sorted the nearly full tin of Kings.
I found 41 pellets with deformed skirts out of 300 or so pellets. I tossed them into the trash.
Come on JSB, I am throwing money away.

GKU, some of the skiryts looked like someone used a finger nail to crush the skirt.
I have bought all kinds of pellets and JSB fly best in all my guns. I don’t buy anything else.

The head of the pellet, size shape and uniformity is more attributed to the accuracy then it’s skirt in most barrels.
I’d do a conclusive test before throwing money into the trash.
If not at closer ranges it could be used for plinking also.

I get my pellets from PA and they do good job in packing them. This is not to say that damage did not happen before PA. This one was extremely bad, so bad that I kept it as example, and yes it arrived this way!
But I seen damaged skirts with others including 22 15.8 though much lesser degree as I said.
Wow Awny that’s some ugly looking pellets. 😳
The thinner skirted pellets are more prone to shipping damage, likelier than the Heavies.
Hopefully the new Heavy Kings 34g would probably have a thicker skirts as well ?
Strange that you guys on the mainland seem to be getting a lot of damage pellets ?
Reason why I’m saying that is, I’m in Hawaii and so far I’ve been getting minimum damage from shipping.
This is a damage tin the worst one this year of JSB 177 – 8.44g, it still looks like the pellets are in good condition.

Use JSB all the time… Never Seen a tin like that before… Looks like theyve been dropped a few times..
Find a better pellet and let us no, I am no expert, But the JSB pellets have been the best I have shot hands down,,,,
But if you find a better one in .22 and .25 please let me no,
Thanks, I always like to shoot the best.

note- lightly dented skirt on king wudnt bother me but it does in .177 pellets
Yes I agree.
It’s the head of the pellet, size shape and uniformity is more attributed to the accuracy then it’s skirt in most barrels.
177 pellet are so small that maybe the skirts doesn’t open up (expand back) so easily as larger cals.
Maybe also it needs to be fairly compared to the percentage of the bend ?

i used to sort my pellet with skirt also as parameter but after testing many different pellets, i think jsb use soft enough lead for the skirt to expand back unless its completely flattened like super badly. what most important is keeping the head scratch-free. a single light scratch could send the pellet way off. i wudnt worry about lightly dented skirt from king. why dont you collect those that u think as a bad pellet and shoot them. see how bad they perform so u can get some kind of idea which pellet to use in the future.

Yrrah did the test but he took the pis down IIRC he used his nails to do the denting almost to the center of the pellets.

Also some say the skirts blow back into shape when fired, so accuracy doesn’t suffer.

There is a lot of info on old yellow forum I’d do a search, read it and test it for yourself.
Also do a search on fliers, they have many theories to what causes them.
I’ve been getting very good lot tins and I do buy very large quantity for many years.
I never had that amount of damaged pellets from JSB before.
It usually not the fault of JSB to putout damage goods, it’s usually who is rough handling your shipping. 😉

I do not think any of these tests are good conclusive tests. they should be done at 50 yards and higher. right now I target shot at 100 yards and have done a small test with pellets that are not perfect and they have yielded bad results giving me the reason why I do not use them for accuracy. I am going to do another test 😀 I keep all of my deformed pellets so I have enough for a test.
Agreed sounds like you had a great time Mr. Brass.
Nice story

I bought 6 tins of 350 count .25 jsb kings and out of each tin I am averaging about 50 that I can not shoot. And about another 50-75 that I will only use for fps testing and wont shoot them for accuracy reasons I thought this was normal.
I been shooting at the pellet trap and having fun but it sounds like you are having some real fun. I would love to be sitting in a field surrounded ground squirrels instead of neighbors.

It was a blast. I arrived at 0800 and parked under a palm tree so that the birds would not crap on my truck. Un-cased the cricket and checked the inserted mag. Ready to go. As I walk past a cow pen, here they come and fast, cows. Cows moving fast scare GS. I walked past my turn so as to fool the cows into thinking I would keep going. No good. They watched me. I turned around and headed to location #1 I picked out yesterday. Made my way to the plowing equipment and only a few baby GS were curious. I got on one knee and unfolded the Crickets bipod. 1 BGS was watching me. I guessed the distance to be 35yds. Gun zeroed for 50yds, placed the crosshair just under the BGS`s chin. Squeeze. BGS flops for a second. His brother went to check on him, bad choice. Cock the Cricket, aim, squeeze. Bro has a vent hole through the shoulders. A barker was signaling his family the alert bark. I rose and walked towards another area where the cows were feeding. As I walked towards the cows, little ones scrambled for underground cover.
I made my way to the cows and as I was about to round the corner tiny feet scampered about eating, holding feet, and playing tag it seems. I laid the Cricket on top of the fencing where all that was exposed of me was my big melon head. The play continued. I scanned the area for close critters. Saw one at 35yds, looked down to cock the Cricket and noticed a BGS 20yds away with its back to me, squeeze. The BGS was now an airhead. The sound of the Cricket put the adults on alert. The BGS played. Ole 35yarder looked my way. Crosshair under the chin, squeeze. The impact of the pellet into the dirt was loud. Barking came from multiple directions. I know from experience that BGS that have not been trained by the elders are curious. I rounded the corner and some BGS ran away, others stayed to see what this thing was? I stayed close to the cows and used the fence for support to shoot off of. 6 shots later, the dust had cleared and 5 BGS laid motionless. I headed to another corner.
It was like the GS around the corner lived in another universe. Again I used the corner and started picking the BGS off, one by one. The closest shot was 10 yards away. I cleaned out about 7 BGS and headed to the far corner. These BGS had been exposed to me the day before. Underground they went. At the far corner there was a platform that I used as a rest for the Cricket. I scanned the area and saw a couple GS but they were inline with cows feeding about 60 yards away. I stood there and waited.
I leaned on the fence and watched the two GS that were inline with the cows. I moved like the GS were not on my mind. After 10 minutes the activity began to unfold. A BGS came out to feed. I watched him. His bro came out and then another. Down by the cows, I saw movement. BGS were playing, and having fun. Checked the mag, adjusted the focus, aim, squeeze on a BGS at 50 yds. Down it goes. Most run for cover. I wait, the two inline with the cows are gone. I look over my shoulder and 6 BGS are watching me. I won`t shoot. The owner has a house 200 yds away inline with the shots. I chill.
After a few minutes BGS start moving again. I spot a BGS 70 yds away on a mound. Aim, adjust focus, squeeze, flop, down for the count. Shot a few more like that. One climbed on a cement barrier to try and get a drink of water from the faucet. Never made it, a JSB King foiled the plan. I decide to head back to the truck because ammo is getting low. I have about 5 Kings left and 6 Polymags. The baby`s watching me that were inline with the house no longer have fear of me. I mosey over to the fence and watch them groom and play. I aim the Cricket, focus, wait! They are close to one another. I wait, they get side by side. Squeeze. Two for one shot. The close family members go down hole. I walk to the far corner towards the truck and BGS are having a ball. I shoot a couple, miss a few as I was shooting through the gates. Checked the mag. 1 King left. A BGS was on his hind legs looking for that noise, aim, squeeze. He never had a clue. No Kings, only 6 Polymags left. Polymags make a mess of BGS.

I posted the video above to prove a point about the head of a pellet that is attributed to accuracy not the skirt as much.
I’m not dogging JSB pellets there the best IMO too.
