Cricket Rifle cal 22 Incoming – anything to know?
What is there to know about the Cricket Rifle?
I intend to punch paper at 100y and beyond if possible. Please tell me what you know about this rifle. I could not find the threads that talks about the Cricket rifle, except the one at the YF, which I already read.
Any known issues? Expected accuracy groupings? With what pellet? Pressure fill range for its sweet spot?
Thanks.
I do not like surprises very much.

Yes, They are the same…

I am looking at the rifle. Do you know if the magazines are the same bullpup to rifle if both are .22??
I also have the Cricket Bulldog in .25 but would trade it for the rifle anyday!
I will probably send the BD to Ernest some day but hate having to be separated from either of my Crickets for any duration.
Wonder if Ernest has a slow time of year when turn around is quicker???
these nightmares are so heartbreaking… I am sorry to hear about your experience.
If only these toys were cheap… and we were wealthy…. 🙁
I bought a 22 cricket on Yellow couple years ago and it needed a lot of work to get it to where it is today. It is a fine shooter today to say the least. Had to get a new shroud for it and Ernest sent me a preset regulator to get gun to shoot 880-900. I polished barrel myself and I love my little baby whale cricket. I went and bought a 25 synthetic cricket 8 months later and it was a nightmare as well. Had to send it back to get shroud replaced. That took a month to get that done. I ended up selling rifle a year later and buying a 25 Vulcan. The Vulcan is shooting remarkably well out of the box and have not touched anything on gun other than cleaning and lubing it. I did adjust trigger a bit too. I must have gotten the two worst crickets in the country or most of them come that way. This is only my experience but others have had great luck with theirs. There are a lot of recommendations for sending crickets to Ernest before you even get to shoot it. That does not paint a good picture.
What is the volume of this thing in cc? The air reservoir looks small to me.
If I can get that 60-70 shots with cal .22 at that pressure range and velocity, I will be very happy and satisfied.
I am still in awe as to how the Cricket can propel a 24grain JSB King to 900+fps with just 1400psi (95bars)…maybe it is the Czech magic potion. I have experimented with my pcps, and that pressure can only manage to send a cal .22 18 grain pellet some 700fps.
My gun is fully adjusted to 910 fps, I fill my gun to 185 bar and get 36 shots down to 95 bar with an extreme spread of 10 fps max. 3 magazines but this in .25 caliber. This would probably ALMOST double in 22 caliber if done correctly.
Hi Ernest,
My fill source is a scuba tank, max 3000psi. How can the Cricket Rifle be operated economically in this pressure range?
What fill in psi, what velocity gives the most number of shots?
1. Lead lap bore to 50,000 diamond past.
2. Crown breech end of barrel and polish
3. Polish in lead of bore of barrel
4. Polish crown
5. Smooth out action/mag index re lube.
6. Polish hammer and spring
7. Trigger tune and mod.
8. Polish mags
9. Regulator tune, adjust reg pressure to get max shot count and constancy. Must indicate what FPE, it will be max out at that FPE.
10. Lighten spring on fill probe cover.
11. Increase fill rate
as well as the removal of the barrel ring he alluded to in a prior post in this thread.
just my .02 cents :7:
Starting on yours: to clarify you want this tune for the king 25g 44 ft/lbs or heavy 34g at 60 ft/lbs?????
I will be shooting the 25.39’s mainly
BP Tuner
What is the starting pressure on a shot count like that?

250b is the highest I go for shot string, now I know 900fps with kings, so average is around 50 shots all depend how tight the barrel is.

My personal decision to send my as yet unfired rifle off to Ernest directly from WWAG is not because I am hoping his work will make me a more accurate shooter, in point of fact just yesterday, I put a .25 through the eye of a large woodchuck from about 30 yards with my marauder (he went down like a sack of rocks where he stood) and I can consistently shoot dime sized groups @ 35 yds with it off a rest that sits on a table that wobbles.(don’t ask lol ) My rationale for having the cricket rifle gone over by Mr Rowe is because he does certain things to them that I am not skilled in and in the interest of having a gun that truly shoots well with out issues straight from the box (the box I will receive down the road when Ernest has finished with it) I decided the nominal expense of enlisting his considerable skills was worth it in spades. The service offered includes :
1. Lead lap bore to 50,000 diamond past.
2. Crown breech end of barrel and polish
3. Polish in lead of bore of barrel
4. Polish crown
5. Smooth out action/mag index re lube.

Hagard 616 , I understand what you are saying , even though I was trained to be a sniper over 40 yrs. ago I didn’t mean that the Vulcan is the best
PCP on the market , However , out of the box it is a very nice PCP gun and can perform with very high standards for distance with accuracy .
Like spinj states shooting skill levels are different from a self taught shooter to a shooter who has had professional training . A great shooting gun
is totally worthless if the shooter has little or no shooting skills and a great shooter is totally worthless if the gun he or she is shooting is a piece of
garbage . The Vulcan really is a nice PCP gun and very enjoyable to shoot .

Perhaps we’ve all been there before. Precision shooting is an art, and to be good at any art you need skill and experience. Sometimes, even shooting a gun on a bench isn’t going to manifest its true accuracy especially if the shooter’s trigger technique is incorrect and the rest is not set up properly. A good rest allows a rifle to move straight back without any hindrance. It doesn’t matter whether it is a shooting stick, shooting bag, bipod, or a gun rest. Shooters need to know this. Sometimes, I find that my Caldwell 7-Rest doesn’t really show what my airguns are truly capable of because the Y-arms are so grippy that the guns don’t have any way to move during recoil, and the vibration it gives off is transferred onto the rest which then causes unfavorable movement of both the gun and rest. I can see the reticle move sideways. So I just use my rest now to hold my guns when I clean their barrel.

I have done many modifications including porting the exhaust and thinning the valve stem thesd two mods gave me that extra I needed to achive these numbers. If you have any question I will help.
