Soda Cans 700 yds-Pepsi Challenge RECORD
Hi All, On the Cast Bullet dedication here by TOFAZFOU, Charley/Roachcreek has a video of longest air rifle shot, 615 yds…Single can and reading the 11 pages that included that feat, he said he couldn’t do it again that day….I never read where he tried again or not? Couple weeks ago I set up 3 Soda Cans at 700 yds…Busted all 3 cans. I had shot previously at the RAM at same distance, so knew I could hit cans. Also just put up another can after and as was going to change to different weight bullet…Started camera again….Took to much time dialing in as over berm in grass or under in grass and didn’t know where i was hitting at all….When finally hit the berm dirt way left of camera and can i zeroed in and hit the 4th can but camera was off by time i got back down 700 yds……the busted cans was with a 92 gr fb cast lead bullet. Was extremely difficult to hit….Could hit close and around can but only 4.8″ high by 2.6″ wide, very small at distance……..Condor .257..Also the cans I hit were in the order I shot at, starting middle first. Sir, All I can say is WELL DONE! One of the funnest things about air rifling, (besides pushing yourself to the next level and hitting the target), is reading about you and others pioneering the art of air rifling to new heights! It’s just so much fun to watch. I am living vicariously through you guys. I have a Condor SS .25 that I am holding onto until the day I decide to take the plunge into .257 and cast bullets….but until then I’ll keep watching! Wow 800 yards, now…keep us posted!
Just would like to see what that beast of yours does on paper.
Lol., and yes I tear the 35 yard targets right up.
Keep up the great work.
SEARCH my name for posts and look at START of them and I have the posts mentioned above of groups shot. I have had less than half inch at 100 yds and one 3 shot group i QUIT, as didn’t want to mess up and was in the .2″ range and aspirin tablet beside as it would cover the hole….Have a couple pics at 220 yds that were around 1 inch…….these are the exception though…….I am shooting heavy bullets at very high pressure and I am getting to much VERTICAL….Be a winter project stiffening frame up as it is notorious with pellets frame flexing, the CONDOR. I will get with my gunsmith and see what we can come up with……Frame needs to be steel and thick but we will come up with something else??? I have more to come and this thing each time out as i increase distance 100 yds at a time it even amazes me…..Shot at distance 3 times in last 5 days, before rains settle dust and can’t see misses and WHERE……..Exciting things to come and the next time i go OUT. will be a shocker to the airgun world , I guarantee……….THE DISTANCE!!!! Glad you are enjoying the journey with me……At 74 not much excites me anymore, but my shooting friends and I CAN NOT BELIEVE what a PUFF of air will actually do…….I just happen have the PLACE TO SEE AND DO IT, and willingness to DO IT……..Cheers……………More NEW THREADS in coming weeks…………..Carl
Thank for kind words……..It is a very difficult task….In the shooting competition game, further out the distance, larger the target….1000 yd target frame with target is 72″ x 72″ square……HIGH POWER TARGETS are x ring 1 moa and 10 ring 2 moa. F-Class x ring is 1/2 MOA and 10 ring 1 moa. So a 1000 yd High Power target is 10″ X ring with the 10 ring 20″ and rings go out to fill frame at the 5 ring…What i am doing NOW to see the hits better i have a 10 gauge steel plate i carry in car to set up on bank…..Still about half the STANDARD FRAME TARGETS ………Anyway, keep trying and yes you may kick my butt……Thanks for comment………..Carl
No intention to insult, I think what your doing is great fun , glad to see it.

regardless of what people say, taking soda cans at 700 yds is awesome for sure! I have my 257 and maybe one day I will give you a run for your money! :biggrinn: Again, great shooting.
lets see some groups.ya know on paper.
like in sequence,
not , HEY . i shot 30 rounds and this is what i hit.
>Hey powderburner! What do you know about shooting groups at 700 yds with airguns??? I see your list of equipment and i bet you tear the HECK out of that paper at 35 yds, Yeah buddy  I have posted groups in other videos here, of 100 and 220 yds and also a regulation HIGH POWER 300 yd target at 300 yds, full 20 shot string……… ……..Yes i cropped vid down to be short, as MOST people won’t watch anything but a few seconds, and especially a number of shots hitting dirt. Vid showed exactly as intended, will go that far and hit with authority……
Have shot powder for 65 years………Got a .257 in Feb of this year. FIRST AIRGUN………After a month i had ideas to make it BETTER and SEE jut how far this thing can go and actually HIT SOMETHING. Built another i shoot now……..That is what i am doing, to actually see how far it can SHOOT….A person who was at the forefront of distance has a video on this site of “longest air rifle shot” at 615 yds……He called it the Pepsi Challenge. I had shot at 700 before at a RAM and actually at 800 yds so knew i could hit a soda can…..Was bored and tried it…..Oh by the way..His video had 3 shots and can was hit…Also said in another post he COULD NOT duplicate again, THAT DAY!! I have seen guys come to an F-Class match with their AR-15 with 16 inch barrel….Shot PRONE. Factory ammo and target is 72″ X 72″ and they didn’t get but about half the 20 shot string even on that target……Spotters trying to KEEP them ON TARGET .. They never even went to the 3rd relay at 800 yds. Have 2 buddies with AR and at distance they can’t do what my airgun will do …………. Now AR set for MATCH long distance is another thing for sure………These were stock AR’s
I have NOTHING to prove and just share the info of what I am doing and can be DONE FOR EXTREME DISTANCE, as no one even suspected just how far this thing can go, including me…The .257….It certainly isn’t a match quality scoring rifle but it is amazing just how far it can shoot……..Nobody in the world has pushed an airgun as far as i am.Or from forum members around the world aren’t on YouTube about it……All anyone is concerned with is HOW MUCH POWER and have a BIG HEAVY BULLET that makes power in ft lbs, but flies like a bus and is as far as it goes………
When you get an AIRGUN that shoots 700 yds, POST UP THEM GROUPS, kimo sabe…. :biggrinn:
Thank You……..I shot several shots to establish vertical and windage via dust on the BERM….Then drove down 700 yds and set out the cans and camera and turned it on……Drove 700 yds back to the gun…….Hit the first can and middle one which i was aiming at and hit it 2nd shot….The next can to the right and 2nd can target took several more shots……..I about gave up on the 3rd can or one far left….I hit tad low, correct and a tad HIGH, little left, little right but all around it and finally busted it…….I shot quite a number at that last can…..Drove down and filmed ripped cans……….
Set out a 4th can and started over………With Camera running i changed BULLETS to a lighter and different one……..If a little high over that berm and grass, little low same thing grass, an couldn’t see where i was even hitting. I was aiming right of can to get elevation to start shooting…….One has to do this as MOA is so extreme a 100 yd distance move takes some doing to spot the hitting area. Anyway found with dust but camera shuts off when certain GB is reached for storage card………Did shoot a number of shots close but finally hit can and the best of all as the ripped can exploded to the top of berm and when i drove down the camera had shut off ………..But is what it is…Powder is easy compared to doing this with AIR………………..Carl
congratulations,
lets see some groups.ya know on paper.

700 yds is most impressive for sure!! Great shooting… How many tries did it take to shoot all three cans?
Congrats you own the longest soda can shot with a condor and bragging rights with 3 hits to prove it. Great shooting..Nice setup..I have been following your post from the beginning.
Thanks ELDY………Yes, “bragging rights” until someone else does it bigger and better…..I was at 800 yds today….took a 10 gauge steel plate to a bigger background raked and larger target too…..Used 3 different bullets….Got hits with all 3 and the best bullet this day had 28 hits……Got 42 total…….The plate of steel was angled funny on 2 vids and couldn’t see the marks on white paint from sun glare on video, but had to paint over the black looking at it, but hear the ring of hits well…….I moved the plate for 3rd video and can see the hits…..Had camera pretty far back as didn’t want to hit it for mistakes??? Just raw video and will be awhile before processing to cut down to couple minutes………I also need a spotter now……I can see the misses mostly in dirt, correct and see NO DUST so figure am hitting steel…..BUT i can just be on the edges and my spotter could tell me high, low, more left or right and get better accuracy or SHOT PLACEMENT???…. I am past the 1000 yd targets so spotter has concrete wall for protection and i am shooting with portable table at 800 yd line….May try that again??? Big matches coming the next 2 months on 1000 yd range and motorhomes stay for 2 weeks at a time….I WON’T be able to sit on range as i am doing as the competitors will want the 1000 yd firing LINE clear for them to practice……Then rain season will soak the dirt and not see dust and season ends for me then…….My next jump will be 80 yds to 880 as in HALF MILE….PROBABLY scope will be looking at barrel end though but willl try even if i have to wait spring and DRY/DUST?? Fun pushing boundries……At 800 today i recovered 6 bullets of 92 grains totally smashed to mushroom shapes, with base smashed all the way for length, as still has that much energy left……..AMAZES ME EVEN 😀 Carl
2 questions for you. Do you ever see the barrel in your sight picture? And what base are you using to get all that elevation correction?
Thanks…….Am at 800 yds now and I have shot 3 times at a RAM, and not seeing end of barrel yet….But it is getting close to that……..Read post above yours and I link to scope and the rail mount……….Carl
Man that is nuts! Even your misses are close. Very impressive shooting.
2 questions for you. Do you ever see the barrel in your sight picture? And what base are you using to get all that elevation correction?
Thanks, Rick
Glad to help…..In my opening i show the gun on bench …It was full screen by clicking……Wasn’t working but is now?? I will try pics again…First pic is on portable table and scope rail is set for 800 yds. Notice the rear of rail as it is at a good angle DOWN… 2nd pic is from other side and was set for 600 yd video i posted weeks ago and rear of rail is down from first pic…..Scope is HAWKE SIDEWINDER… THIS MODEL http://www.hawkeoptics.com/sidewinder-8-32×56-20x-mil-dot.html Mounting Rail is also a HAWKE. It is adjustable as pivots on a front pin to raise as necessary in rear…I am up so far in rear had to grind front to pivot high enough in rear.. For 160+ moa at 800 yds…Only costs like $25 This LONG EXTENDED MODEL http://www.opticsplanet.com/hawke-sport-optics-1pc-11mm-to-weaver-picatinny-rail-adapter.html For the extreme distance i am experimenting with for AIR, great cheap mount…Have to remove the scope to adjust the rear screw elevation . Hope this is of some help for you? Carl
