.22 Vulcan TGAG shroud
Couple of months ago if you asked me if I was going to buy a Vulcan or Mutant my answer was no. I was happy with my .22 Cricket and .25 R3M. But since I have no life and I hang out with old folks on here, I was constantly exposed to the Mutant and Vulcans. Mutant appealed to me because of how quiet the report was and the smoothness in the cocking. Very similar to the Cricket and that’s why I held out so long. Tell you the truth the Mutant compact is a very nice and quiet gun. I prefer it over my Cricket based on the weight and compactness. Then comes the Vulcan, I had a prod sitting around that was never going to get used again because of the mutant and I had other airgun accessories laying around. You guys probably saw a bunch of my ads on the Yellow. Any hoot, I was able to gather enough money to buy a Vulcan. Oak man hooked me up real nice on a used one with all the bells and whistles. He said it was too loud for his shooting even though it has the latest TGAG shroud. It baffled me so I took a chance on it. Ernest had already worked his magic and got rid of the twang and ping. But here is the thing, the gun screamed like a hungry fat lady. Oak wasn’t kidding when he said the gun was still loud. It rang my ears for a long time and this is only after a few shots. Really bummed out, I kept thinking how is this shroud so loud? I don’t own a hummingbird but others have compared this new shroud to it. Very tempted to sell it to another member on here, I gave it one last chance and made my own shroud for it. After seeing jfrazier30’s video(http://talonairgun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=33399) of how quiet his gun is I was determined to get mine to that level. He’s also shooting out of a TGAG shroud but mine doesn’t sound anything like it.
I spent a few hrs in the garage and made my own shroud. Crossed my fingers, closed my eyes and pulled the trigger. The sound was night and day! Exactly like jfrazier’s. Told Vince I am sorry but I can’t sell this gun anymore, it sounds awesome. Just hammer slap and hardly any muzzle blast. This shooting without LDC. With LDC, forget about it, super quiet. When guys say there is no hammer slap, they are lying, when metal slaps on metal there’s going to be a hammer slap. However, there is no ping. Just a quick slap.
Here is what the TGAG shroud looks like inside
Everything looks like it was CNC very nicely and the baffle holes are very tight to the .22 pellet.
Here is what is in my shroud, just two baffles, two metal curlers wrapped in felt and spacers
My shroud has 4 vent holes in a line at the top.
Also topped off with a black delrin cap.
For this one, I mad an LDC without the cone shape in the back to make it short as possible
I am very happy with this gun now but still trying to figure out why the TGAG is so loud. Any suggestions? Do I have to align the holes in the side of the baffles so that they are all in a line?

Donny, mine had 4 o rings as well…one between each of the 5 baffle cones. Pretty sure as Hoot said the o rings serve little purpose other than to keep the baffles from rattling around in the shroud.
AJ3 can you tell me what size those orings are that you picked up from Lowes? I need to pick some up…

The O-rings that separated the baffles served no purpose that I could find. I tried it with and without them…no diff that I could tell. Of course, I’m 72, have E.D. and large, but deaf ears.
As with the O-rings, I’m not certain the E.D. makes any difference, but I like to share that fact with my younger friends.
“Why?” you might ask? No particular reason, but I do like their more recent commercials with the attractive, mature sluts, walking provocatively while they pretend to give a shit about sex! 99% of women in their 40’s would give their left arm if it would make every man’s dick fall off and get run over by a garbage truck.

Donny, mine has 5 baffels with 4 large FAT o-rings, one between each of the baffel pairs. Of course that was the best fit after I launched the baffels into the kitchen. The endcap tightens snuggly but I may have lost one O-ring. Each of the baffels has its own pair of large skinny o-rings.

Hands down the cricket is quieter than the Vulcan…….
My Vulcan 25 is much much louder than my cricket 22. But its a 50 ft.lb so I don’t have a fair comparison. Your comparison is more valuable.

How many O-rings are there suppose to be? I only had one right before the end cap.

Neil has been busy working on the Crickets. Donny Du makes the best ldc for Vulcans. You will need an adapter for the Vulcan shroud. John Hagan makes them (hagantool@aol.com)
Donny will stop by here shortly and contact you. His work is beyond excellent. Carbon fiber tubes and really good design inside. I’ve had experience with several of his items and they are very effective.

I believe the .22 is way quieter than the .25, so don’t expect the same reduction in sound. What I did notice however, was downrange the report was quieter because a lot of air was being vented down and to the sides…and not blasted forward. I shoot across a lake and the echo is very telling. There are gains. It’s part of an answer, but not the whole solution. You really need an LDC to get sound down to zero. Neil Clague or DonnyFL both provide superior products for the money!

Ok, I don’t have a .25 Vulcan so I can’t say for sure what’s quieter. So here’s my question. Would someone please send me their .25 Vulcan and i’ll do the sound test with Lurker as the final say on sound…..someone has to help out on this. PM me your reply….

No problem…1″ OD X 13/16″ ID. These are a bit thinner than stock but fit the purpose to cushion and pack the shroud.
