Hammer spring
Should my .25 have the brass hammer spring guide? Mine is only a couple weeks old and this is what it looks like inside.

clear, limits suck
I would say bloody country where the power limit on airgun is defined 😥 😉
i think it will be just longer (the fat section of it) so the spring does not go past the point where on the .22 and .177 the brass bit is hitting the action. so the spring will not be getting caught up on the edge of the the tunnel in which the hammer rides in.
you bloody Americans must have your 900fps so again pushing it heeee
how much the brass bit decreases the v0? you need your regs high so your hammers cant open the valve heee
maybe a spacer would do the same on the current hammer side so the spring stays away from the action entirely. with a shorter stronger spring maybe?
Ok thanks Zonk, will be more interesting reading from when you guys post on it
As of right now I don’t think anyone knows what the new and improved hammer looks like. It’ll be the end of Jan before they’re released.
Thanks guys for the info, very interesting reading and very helpful understanding it all. I’ve been sat on here reading up on all the Vulcan info and it’s a great place to be for it all.
What will this new .25 hammer be like, does anybody know? Will the newer .177 and .22 have these new hammers too?
What Ernest says.
The air efficiency drops without the brass bushing because you lose the .17 and .22’s free floating hammer. The bushing halts forward movement of the
spring before the hammer strikes the valve. The hammer continues to fly forward but because there is no spring tension during
strike, it comes back off the valve faster. Faster OFF and less tendency to bounce —-> less air waste
A the same FPS, the free floating hammer lets the valve close faster and debounces the hammer Each shot is a more air efficient.
FX and other guns also implement a free floating hammer.
The .25 needs more air release, beyond what the free floating hammer can free. Hence, the spring being allowed to push
the hammer all the way to the valve impact.
Downside of the brass bushing is its impact noise against the breach block and the spalling the busing suffers with each strike.
The Delrin spring guide replacement you read being installed on .17 and .22’s helps with both noise and wear.
Have tested that with a delrin guide that doesn’t have a large OD for the HDD.
speed went up from 890 to 920fps 18.1g 140B with the same HSTA location, but the shot count wet down by 10 shots at the same speed. slight less vibration on the hammer impact.
without the HDD the hammer travel further with the hammer spring tension that regenerated more speed to impact the VS—> a must for the .25
Out of interest, the .25 does not have the brass fitting. What happens if you remove it from the .177 and .22? I know power will reduce but anything else or any issues that occur?
Not claiming it is superior. It’s simply the current dry lube solution I am experimenting with.
I’ve tried super light spring oil, graphite, dry-slide. Gun keep shooting the same whatever I’ve tried.
Then again, I only have about 2,000 pellets through the gun and don’t expose it to the elements.
Keeps outshooting the accuracy of my hold.
Does the moly or graphite in the Drislide migrate or flake off? Its superior to a dry silicone?
I use Dri-Slide. Super slippery. Super messy when wet during application. Definitely wear gloves during use or you will have the moly particles penetrate into pores you didn’t know you had.
Let completely dry before use. Also, absolutely don’t let it touch any o-rings!
I believe I read that Ernest uses a spray silicone.
At any rate, getting ride of that nasty, unpredictable, dust gathering grease would be a top priority.
When Evgeny releases the new hammer for the .25, you should be able to get one that has
less problems with binding and better consistency.
I plan on degreasing everything and polishing the hammer and a few other areas. Its only 21° here right now so I think I’ll wait till the weather is alot warmer so I can do some chronographing when I’m done. What do you guys recommend for a dry lube?
:dito: and lube with a dry lube…..
