Q:

Need a little help with barrel assemble

Well, I just got this, it shoot good but there is one thing that is bothering me. This Edgun has an aftermarket shroud which work better than EOM. Not sure what is wrong during installation but there seem to be a little play on the barrel body cover, which I do not like and it’s bothering me.

Me, I think the barrel is not screw in all the way but I might be wrong. If you look at the pictures, there is a small gap which light can pass through. With that just small gap, it’ll cause the other side to have a little play. When I press my finger on it, it’ll move up/down (can not hardly notice). I have owned 3-4 Edgun before and never see that issue (maybe is all EOM). Presently this is the only one I have so noting to compare to.

Anyway any expert can help with this or recommend, I would like to try to screw the barrel in another 1/2 turn or so to close up the gap. Also, what is the max torque, don’t want to damage the barrel.

Another question is that end pieces EOM or not, I did tries to knock that down the barrel a little but it just wont move.

Thanks Keyser-

I am good for now, the shroud I have is an inch” longer than stock but very happy with it. Surprisingly it’s quieter than the Edgun OEM .22 at optimum speed, and this is a .25.

And congrat on being an official Edgun dealer!

Do you want me to order you a OEM shroud?

Looks very good. Doesn’t it make the gun louder?

Got me an aluminum tube and put tension on the barrel. The gaps now is gaps free and light cannot pass through it, very happy with result. The aluminum thickness is .25″ and od is .75″. Without the washer guide the shroud is a tad wobble. Luckily, i have some spare orings and it fitted perfectly without any play.

The tube is 7 3/4″.

I really appreciates all the feedback and suggestions, will update you guys once I tried that out.

thanks all.

You guys think it will work if I get a smaller tube in between the barrel OD and shroud ID for the exposed barrel + 1/15 or 1/10″ more?

Then use the tension nut/the one currently one to tighten it up?

I think it’s going to work as long as you tight the moderator nut to make all upper assembly together. remove the guide nut and put a smaller tube to against back washer, then tight the moderator nut. then put your aftermarket moderator on.

Yes , I’ve already tries what you mention before posting it here.

Did you try my above tip on loosening the scope rail ?

In the mean time I’d try and order the OEM replacement part(s) with the new Off Set LDC from Ed.

This shroud is not designed properly for Matador. The shroud should keep everything in place and create the proper tension. From what I can see you just screw the shroud on and there is no to little tension on the barrel. I think someone who designed that had no knowledge on Matador construction. Other option is that shroud was not intended to be put on Matador.

Hum …… … . I’d try and loosen the 2 hex bolts that hold the scope rail, it’s holding the frame apart thus showing that little gap.
Looks like you’re not able to get the high tension like the OEM setup that will close off that gap.

After you tension the barrel it should pull the gap close, then retighten the scope rails 2 hex bolts Sir. 😉

OK so what is happening with the after market shroud is the barrel is not properly under tension. The barrel screws into the breech block. Then the factory moderator nut is tightened and this pulls the barrel thru a special beveled cut found on the shroud that is proximal to the action. You’ll not be able to get this system on Peter’s gun as tight as the factory system.

I do not know who shroud it is made of CF, but this is one of Petr (TGAG)personal gun. Just did a chrony just because, it’s running at 960fps on 25.4g. Very effective shroud though, quieter than my .22 at 900fps that I used to own.

The cutout aluminum is where the shroud screws into and the 2nd aluminum is the shroud guide.
