Why My Wife Keeps Getting New Cars

Pulled the old RV with the new truck over to the house from storage. You can hardly tell it is there (5000 lbs) until you hit the brakes. [It] detected a trailer was attached and I had to configure a new “model” with the right stuff. I still need to tweak the gain on the trailer brakes to apply just before the truck brakes. They even computerized all of that. Pretty cool. The new trailer is 7100lbs empty. Tandem axle.
Maybe the dealer was just trying to get me to buy the steel truck he had? :suprisedn: Actually, he is the largest ruck dealer in the area. I have never seen so many trucks at one dealership.
I just found out my brother-in-law bought a 2016 Platinum F250 to pull a big fifth wheel his wife wanted he also just bought (2015 39′ and 11,500 lbs dry). :suprisedn: Wife said it is a gas engine and the MSRP is $70k. Asking price was $65k. That is crazy for a truck.
We are looking at a 2015 37′ trailer (Coachman Freedom Express with 3 slides) but the dry weight is 7500 lbs.

Did your insurance go up —– yet? 😛
My dealer said besides the repairs costs they have seen a lot of paint bubbling/chipping issues (I fought it on my plane) and a few bad aluminum weld issues (he mentioned on the top sides where there is a long seam). Apparently, any contamination (including dust) on the aluminum surface prior to painting when they are waiting can cause it (with the coating they are putting on the aluminum to stop conduction with the steel) so they are adding processes to the painting. Sounds more expensive to me. I would prefer stainless steel (but you have to rough it up to paint it) like the Delorian’s were but then there isn’t any weight savings. I am sure they will get it worked out.
Last Dec a kid backed into my 2015 F150 rear quarter. Just a small dent and a scratch. Total cost was $4300 They replaced the whole panel.
Wow. Avoid those car washes. I was more worried about aluminum/steel corrosion having built an airplane. I have seen corrosion got through 3/8″ piece of aluminum touching steel in a year. It turned to a white powder.

If your rear windows go down and you get that wind “buffeting” when they’re cracked open (front closed) they may have an additional function of stopping that.
It’s surprising how many vehicles suffer this effect. I got a 2016 Ram quad-cab, cracked open a rear window and thought the truck was going to blow up. Sounded like a helicopter inside the truck; the whole vehicle was shaking. I’m due to get a rear sliding window installed which should let the pressure out. Anyway, I started asking my friends about this effect and lots of them complained “oh yeah, I yell at the kids if they open the rear windows…” Lots of cars, trucks have the issue.
Since this was a first new truck and my last/current standby is a 1998 Chevy, I had no idea the aerodynamics were so tight on the new vehicles. The rotary shifter…weird, I keep grabbing at air 😛
I tried to price out a 2015 Lariat Supercrew with my configuration loaded for max towing and Ford won’t let you do it. To get the V3.5 Ecoboost and the 3.73 rear-end now you must go to the King Ranch. Those dogs. lol
My wife said it needs to lose the decals if I do that. lol. I did order the door window rain guards.
I think it would look nice Coda. If you have a auto accessory store around you maybe they can hold it next to it to see what it would look like.
I forgot if I posted a picture with the new top. I ended up getting a Leer instead of the ARE on my old truck. Much easier for my wife to open and close at their demo room. It seals better to keep dust out. Basically the same. This one has no seam around the bottom edge. $1400.
What do you think about some chrome/stainless panels at the bottom edges of the doors, etc. where the two-tone paint changed on my old truck? It’s maybe 8″ wide along the bottom on each side. It already has an extra Lariat Chrome package on it. Too much chrome?
How about those gladiator chariot spears that stick out from the wheels.
u need to put some barbed hooks on it also so they don’t get away….
Just tell her that it’s a meat tender riser for fresh road kills . :biggrinn: :biggrinn: :biggrinn:

It’s amazing how these new trucks can haul so much weight.
