Q:

3-9X32 Bug Buster scope question

I posted this on the optics forum but wanted to do so here too as I know some of you who browse this forum may have the same scope. Since the maximum magnification level is 9X and that most scopes’ mildot standard is set to 10X, what level is the mildot spacing true at on this scope? Also, will it withstand the recoil of a springer?

Well, good luck on your search. I’m sure a lot of people would be interested in your findings

Cricket, the reticle on the Bug Buster would’ve been fine for my intended use. I think it’s really a matter of one’s own preferences and whether it satisfies his/her needs. To me, the reticle isn’t too thick or too thin. To my eyes, it is just very slightly thicker than the one on my Sidewinders.

I really like the compactness of the Bug Buster and its close-distance focusing capability. Optical quality is sufficient for me as well. Build quality, except for the defective part, is excellent on the scope. Now that I’ve held, handled, and looked through it, I’m looking for one with the same size, and at the very least, same features.

How was the reticle? Not too thick? When I sent my first Cricket to SirVille for tuning it had a UTG on it and he asked me how the hell I can shoot accurately with such a thick reticle, that was my first scope

Mike, maybe…just maybe, a saboteur had slipped through the interview/employment division at UTG to sabotage the manufacture of the Bug Busters. :biggrinn: They seem like a great scope, as I stated earlier, if not for the moving objective lens. At the moment, all I need is a sturdy scope (I’m not really a glass connoisseur; Leapers/UTG optical quality is quite good) for my TX200 to help me to shoot it accurately. I can do the rest. :winkn:

Bought both my scopes from PA about two years ago, One is still mounted to my super max 177 if any gun will shake a scope apart its that gun.
You can feel the spring kick foreword and backward,
May be someone else is making the bug scope?

Like I have told every one on this forum , bought two of these scopes brand new and both scopes were defective . On warranty
they sent me two brand new scopes in replacement and both of these were also defective . That makes four brand new scopes
all total garbage , all the same type of scope from the same maker . Now what does that tell you about their Chinese product
and the quality control they use to check and inspect their products ? Burned four times on the same type of scope . They can
keep their products as far as I’m concerned . For those of you who got lucky and had no problems , all I can say is be grateful .

Point taken, birdman. I was hoping the Bug Buster would offer the same quality and ruggedness of my old Leapers SWAT scope (4-16×56) as it is still holding up to my springer like Rocky Balboa to Ivan Drago, and that scope is now almost a decade old. :suprisedn: It is one tough unit and has great optics. Heck, to my eyes it even rivals my Hawke Sidewinders in optical clarity for a much cheaper price.

In my opinion, scopes that have the parallax/focus adjustment on the objective area instead of the side of the scope body are more prone to lens movement as even the tiniest of play, perhaps from a loose screw, will move the objective lens or influence its position. I think the Bug Buster would have been an awesome scope and be even more sturdy if its parallax adjustment were done via a sidewheel. Equally important, a scope that will be used on a springer should also have a locking ring for the ocular lens.

Anyway, do you have any recommendations for a small and compact scope that can focus closer than 10 yards? So far, the Bug Buster is the only one I can find that also has an adjustable parallax feature and lockable and resettable turrets.

Oops, just found out that the scope is defective. Even though the scope has not been tested, I already know that it won’t be able to hold zero, especially on a springer, because the objective bell moves when turning the dial. I also confirmed this by using the mirror method to optically center the reticle. When turning the objective/focus knob end to end (from three yards to infinity), the reticle doesn’t go back to center. I will be returning the scope for a refund.

Mike, I ordered the scope from Amazon. It is currently priced at $79.99, but I had to pay $5 for tax for the state I’m in (when did Amazon start charging state-specific tax?). Shipping was free; I just went with the standard shipping option, but it only took four days for me to receive it. Did yours come with the quick-release mounts though? When did you get yours?

Cool, Did you order from PA ?
Both mine did not come with sunshades?
Mike

Just received the Bug Buster today. I am impressed with its build; fit and finish is great and on par with my Hawke Sidewinders. The glass is quite clear for its price. I also really like how it can focus down to 3 yards and how crisp the turret clicks are. Best of all, it’s small, compact, and light, which I think would subtract some of the total weight when it’s on my TX200 (a heavy beast with my old full-sized scope). Anyway, the Bug Buster comes with a 2″ sunshade, scope caps, quick-release Weaver scope mounts, two batteries for the illuminated reticle system, and a toolkit.

I need to mount an 11mm dovetail-to-Weaver/picatinny adapter on the TX, which I didn’t order together with the scope because I thought the one-piece 1″ dovetail mount I already have is going to fit; I initially decided that I’m going to bypass using the included Weaver mounts. Well, it just so happens that it doesn’t as the ring base is too long as you can see in the photo below (on the right of the scope). It’s a bummer because I can’t get to test it out just yet. I went ahead and ordered the adapter, so I should be able to finally get the scope mounted and put to the test next week.

I have had two of them and both were great,Luck of the draw maybe, I took the one off my crosman 760 and sold it to GKU.
The other one will answer your springer question..
I got it on a Super max 1000 177 china pellet gun, Kicks like a big springer, You can fill the spring go forward and then backwards,
I Chro this gun a few years back at a little over 900 FPS , I am sure I was using super light pellets . I had the gun diesel a few times on me and I am sure the pellet went sonic as it was a very loud crack..
Gun is a side cocker and close to 10 lbs
I got maybe 100 rounds with the bug scope on it, Just fired it out my kitchen window first time in two years, Dead on at 38 yards,
Loud and it kicks,,

Mike,

Thanks for the feedback. The reason why I’ve decided to try one out is because I want to reduce some weight on my TX200. I’ve read and watched review videos of it online before placing an order, and the majority of owners have claimed that it is a solid scope for the money. Aside from its compact size, I like how it can focus as close to 3 yards. I meant to ask members here of their experience with it, especially with springer-rifle use. I’m thinking there’s no harm in trying it out; if it were to go bust I can claim warranty service with Leapers given that owners have stated that their customer service is quite good and that it comes with a lifetime warranty.

spinj , all I can say for this scope is that I bought two of them and both were garbage . Had both replaced on warranty and both
brand new scopes replaced by the manufacturer also had the same problems and were total garbage all four scopes had the same
flaws and could not use the elevation turrets at all . They just would not work at all . Now if anyone would like to tell me how four
exact types of scopes from the manufacture that all had the same problem what type of quality control would you in my shoes think
the Chinese are using ? About one out of a hundred maybe ? I have had enough with Chinese products and have learned a very valuable
lesson from this . The Chinese only care about making money on low quality products that they say are a bargain . They will have better
quality control on upper priced products that they make . So buyer be ware , a Chinese bargain product may be good or as in my case
may turn out to be nothing more than garbage . :3: :3: :3: :3:
